HA! My man gets his own chu wooo! And has internet there! I think the worst complain from over there is... the 120 degree weather! ouch! Stay strong girls they are coming home in September! God bless the 116th and the rest of the soldiers!
I'm here in Basra now. Almost everything about this place sucks. The PX is big but they never have anything. I also hear they're closing the USO. Not to mention all of the IDF attacks. It's gonna be a loooooooong year....
my friend is there now too... he's in the 1st Battalion 12th Cavalry Regiment... i agree there are alot of idf attacks.. it seems like thats all i hear about when he gets to call me on skype.... basra sucks.
@sacnut81 ahh :l never mind my post that my boyfriend will have it good over there. hmm if they take out the USO then noone will be able to skype right?
@lovingjaq Well, I've been here 6 months now and the USO is still open. The CHUs have internet access, so Skype won't be an issue, regardless. Aside from the IDF, Basra isn't THAT bad. I've been to worse places.
@ atiuqnor I was there in 08-09 before the red bulls were there and i know exactly what you are talking about. The gym didn't look anything like that and man curry chicken.....ha ha
Wow, I lived there for 7 months in a tent with over 30 other people with metal over my head so if you sat up you banged your head, and for chow we ate curry every flippin day. I am glad that you all have a PX, instead of the NAFI that we had to shop at
What the hell? We didn't have any of this crap while i was there in 2007. We were the only U.S. Military Unit there with the Brits. You guys got lucky that you have all that stuff now. It wasn't too bad doing route clearance down there.
Now this so called "big PX" the thought is great but it has more air in there the products. We made trips to Bucca once a month for thing's like deoderant and shampoo. A long drive for something so simple. The base is big and spreas out. The bus is VERY slow!! The temp...well it does infact get to 100F and then WELL over. Our highest reading that I seen was 133F. It's hot!! Other then al of that, this base is awesome!! They are still improving things to better fit the needs of soldiers.
Ok...This is a nice video if your not going to live here. The real truth is...I just got back from Basra just a few day's go OIF 09-10. Most of my deployment I was in a tent that was full of bugs and rats. We were moved to some CHU's by the front gate. It was a lot better living conditions over in the CHU's but we ran out of water a few times. The USO/GYM is great and worth checking out.
i have never looked back since i left basra, the new mwr is nice, but yer again a big increase in IDF ..... and hes trying to make basra sound like a vacation resort.. what a joke.. yet the red bulls QRF was on point!! when they left the 1st ID took there place and were all jacked up!! lol SO GLAD to be away from there
thank you for posting this. I have had many questions that my husband didn't know the answers to. After viewing this they have been answered.
I thank God daily for our military, as well as praying for their safety. Continue to do the good work each of you are doing and return safely to your families.
"Some days its gets over 100"? How about three months straight of 110/120. You can tell this fobbit doesnt get out of the a/c much. I was there when this video was shot. Things have improved ALOT since the Redbulls came. The big PX has opened since this vid. like a small Wal-Mart in the middle of the desert. Alot better than when we arrived and had crap for food and almost no way of getting shower supplies. Watch my videos to see the REAL Basrah outside the wire where the real soldiers work.
WTF! Yeah thats right, lets lay out the base for the bastards!
