It makes me sad to see that there aren't any tv shows like this in America anymore. What happen to the gas stations where you pulled up and they came up to your car and checked your oil, filled up your car with gas, and wiped your windshield. Why can't you trust anyone anymore, used to you trusted the local clothing store, but now we pay money to big corporate businesses like Walmart. WHAT'S HAPPENED TO US???
There are some of their concerts from the 1990's on YouTube. Only thing I could never understand was the impression they gave for not showing emotion.
Not sure if that was thier gimmick..or Andy Griffith insisted on the gimmick?
The Dillards were and still are a very good bluegrass band!!!!!!!!!!!! They are true to their roots. I have always enjoyed listening to their music. People who say mean and nasty things about other people are just plain jealous, because obviously they aren't musicans theirselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dillards are laughing all the way to the bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@CatHeadBiskit THOSE 8 ARE THE IDIOT KIDS TODAY WHO SPEND 50 HOURS A WEEK ON FACEBOOK AND NEVER HAVE SEEN DECENT TELEVISION.........IF I HAD A GOOD OLD WOODSHED STILL.........WELL........YOU GET THE PICTURE
There have been a lot of really good and even really great bluegrass songs written about moonshine and moonshiners, but this one is the very best. Musically and lyrically, it cannot be matched.
@TheEarldog .... No Earl .. you got me on that one ? Do you know how ? ( I know Floyd - the barber- was a childhood friend of Andy's ) Andy said he brought him on the show because of how much Floyd made him laugh ! lol
@davebob65 .......... Exactly, after ole Barn left the show & the show went to color it just wasn't the same ; ( That's why I watch the black and whites : ) I can watch them over & over and still laugh my butt off . The Andy Griffith show is a part of American culture ... & America wouldn't be the same without it. From my Grandparents , Parents , through to my children . God has blessed us .. ( Who would have ever thought a TV show could be such a inspiration ) : ) I love you guys
i remember a man named dennie who stayed wih us a while. he was a hmeless logger. nicest mann i ever met! we used to sit round the wood stove in the basement and hed pick and sing all night! good man he was! this was his fav
Its so weird, but normally I don't like country music, but when I hear it on this show I love it! Maybe its 'cause they're from the mountains or something?
I never get tired of hearing the Darlings sing, Ernest T. Bass throw rocks, get in and out of the jail, and see Andy & Barney try to figure out what to do about it. One of the best sit coms to ever be on TV. RN
is there any relation to this dooley and tom dooley. or just a coincidence it doesnt seen like a common name for a song. except maybe back in those days
@jerzinokie Hey Jerzi, I don't think there is any conncetion, but with music ya never know. I agree it isn't a common name, but hey, back in those days I was young. Keep listening!
A true classic....if memory serves me right they were debating what song to play and Mr. Darling suggested "Don't Beat Your Grandma with a Big Stick" but his daughter vetoed by saying, "Aw, that one makes me cry!" So they played "Dooley". Freaking brilliant.
The lead singer is Rodney Dillard. He now lives in Branson, Missouri and still has a group that performs. My wife and I just saw their show in Salem, Illinois and they did a great job.
Is it Rodney or Doug? I saw the Dillards on BlueHighways.TV when Ronnie Reno interviewed them and Doug did the lead on everything. But then I don't really recognize that many of them from 40 some odd years ago. I thought Doug always did the lead on most all their tunes.
I told my mom for some strange reason I liked this kind of music when usually I find the banjo annoying, and she told me it's because bluegrass is in my bones because her family grew up in MO where it was big. Haha I love Dooley!
yes Andy Griffith is still living! Not a lot of cast on the show are living. the ones who are still here today are; Andy, Thelma Lou, Goober, Gomer, Elenor Walker, the Darlings (except for the dad), and Opie! the ones who passed on; Barney, Aunt Bee, Floyd, Otis Cambell, Helen Crump, Peggy and a whole heap more
I've been looking for this for years, since early 2005 when I first saw it on the andy griffith show. I love this old hillbilly bluegrass and country tunes. So cool!!!
