  • For some reason I can really relate to this song

  • I always loved when the Darlings come to town! :)

  • im 12 i love this music and this show and i love the confederacy!

  • I love this show so much, Im 26 and i know that it doesnt get much better then this for quality entertainment. Viva Don Knotts & Ang!!

  • An oldie but goodie.Love this.

  • my favorite song from the Darlings

  • Fun Fact: Dan Dillard makes a cameo in the live action "Popeye" movie with Robin Williams as a banjo player in Roughhouse's cafe.

  • The Dillards were an awesome bluegrass band!!!!!!!!!! Great musicians!!!!!!!!!! I loved watching them play music on the Andy Griffith Show.

  • It makes me sad to see that there aren't any tv shows like this in America anymore. What happen to the gas stations where you pulled up and they came up to your car and checked your oil, filled up your car with gas, and wiped your windshield. Why can't you trust anyone anymore, used to you trusted the local clothing store, but now we pay money to big corporate businesses like Walmart. WHAT'S HAPPENED TO US???

  • @Natvtxn98 I agree with you 100%.Who knows what happened to us. Shows like Gomer Pyle,Carol Brnett Mash. Those were the days.

  • WHY DO I LIKE THIS SO MUCH?!?!

  • New Vol theme song. GO VOLS!!!!!

  • There are some of their concerts from the 1990's on YouTube. Only thing I could never understand was the impression they gave for not showing emotion.

Not sure if that was thier gimmick..or Andy Griffith insisted on the gimmick?

  • Uncle Jesse! : )

  • The Dillards were and still are a very good bluegrass band!!!!!!!!!!!! They are true to their roots. I have always enjoyed listening to their music. People who say mean and nasty things about other people are just plain jealous, because obviously they aren't musicans theirselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dillards are laughing all the way to the bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As a matter of trivia ~ The musicians portraying the Darlings really were the "Dillards" the guys who really did record this song originally

  • "Got time to breathe, got time for music."

    -Driscoll Darling

  • This song is my life

  • Up urs, they don't need to be punched in the throat, they need to smile and get a medle

  • 8 people need to be punched right in the throat.

  • @CatHeadBiskit THOSE 8 ARE THE IDIOT KIDS TODAY WHO SPEND 50 HOURS A WEEK ON FACEBOOK AND NEVER HAVE SEEN DECENT TELEVISION.........IF I HAD A GOOD OLD WOODSHED STILL.........WELL........YOU GET THE PICTURE

  • THIS IS A SONG THAT KEEPS A MAN IN PRACTICE , THATS WHAT I CALL IT. IT CHANGES CHORDS VERY FAST. GREAT ONCE YOU GET IT DOWN PAT

  • what a last name XD

  • There have been a lot of really good and even really great bluegrass songs written about moonshine and moonshiners, but this one is the very best. Musically and lyrically, it cannot be matched.

  • love this song

  • 8 people must not have gotten a swallow. :)

  • Type in "Ron Howard singing, "You don't bring me flowers " listen to opie sing

  • i love em all, except the ones they filmed after ole barney left.

  • @davebob65 same with my family. we own all the episodes on dvd up to when Barney left. barney made the show.

  • @davebob65

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS.......BARNEY MADE THE SHOW

  • @davebob65 Even the cast members didn't like those episodes that much.

  • @davebob65 Do you know the story of how Barney came to be on the show in the first place?

  • @TheEarldog .... No Earl .. you got me on that one ? Do you know how ? ( I know Floyd - the barber- was a childhood friend of Andy's ) Andy said he brought him on the show because of how much Floyd made him laugh ! lol

  • Growing up in Eastern Tennessee - I guess is why I love the show soooo much , it relates to where I'm from to a tee . lol

  • @davebob65 .......... Exactly, after ole Barn left the show & the show went to color it just wasn't the same ; ( That's why I watch the black and whites : ) I can watch them over & over and still laugh my butt off . The Andy Griffith show is a part of American culture ... & America wouldn't be the same without it. From my Grandparents , Parents , through to my children . God has blessed us .. ( Who would have ever thought a TV show could be such a inspiration ) : ) I love you guys

  • I absolutely love the episodes with the Darlings and Ernest T. they're music is the best!

  • Mitch Jayne on standup bass, Dean Webb on mandolin, Doug Dillard on banjo and Rodney Dillard on guitar and lead vocal.

  • @RoyFive The Dillards - saw them live on the same bill as Jim Croce and Argent back in the 70's !

  • i remember a man named dennie who stayed wih us a while. he was a hmeless logger. nicest mann i ever met! we used to sit round the wood stove in the basement and hed pick and sing all night! good man he was! this was his fav

  • Its so weird, but normally I don't like country music, but when I hear it on this show I love it! Maybe its 'cause they're from the mountains or something?

  • @Jayjen35 That's because it's not country but rather bluegrass. I feel the same way, though.

  • I never get tired of hearing the Darlings sing, Ernest T. Bass throw rocks, get in and out of the jail, and see Andy & Barney try to figure out what to do about it. One of the best sit coms to ever be on TV. RN

  • they dont have names on the show. he calls them " boys" & they all three respond.

  • amazing song

  • "But Pa, that one make me cry........"

  • *thought

  • lol barney is so getting into the song i would be too :)

  • my last name is dooley lol

  • I'm 15 and own almost every episode, I absolutely love the ones with the Darlings!

  • is there any relation to this dooley and tom dooley. or just a coincidence it doesnt seen like a common name for a song. except maybe back in those days

  • @jerzinokie Hey Jerzi, I don't think there is any conncetion, but with music ya never know. I agree it isn't a common name, but hey, back in those days I was young. Keep listening!

  • @TasteForDisaster You're amazing! (: I'm 16, and love this show too!

  • @TasteForDisaster I had all the DVDs but i lost in hurricane.Darn you Katrina!

  • I love this song

  • Good! Extra good!

  • I will remember you forever Mitch! Love and respect Gene, Kamie and Deegan.

  • this is true music

    i love this

my math teacher mr. belloni plays the bango

and when we were doing exams he broght his bango played and sang the song

  • A true classic....if memory serves me right they were debating what song to play and Mr. Darling suggested "Don't Beat Your Grandma with a Big Stick" but his daughter vetoed by saying, "Aw, that one makes me cry!" So they played "Dooley". Freaking brilliant.

  • He works at Fast Eddys in Evansville!

  • the best song ever

  • @MegaRobot5 - respectable folk don't talk about Julie! Mind that, and you're welcome to say anything else (mostly).

  • A 'Dillards' original tune.

  • My last name is Dooley and i'd like to have a dollar for everytime somebody has sung this song to me or asked if Tom Dooley is my grandpa.

  • The lead singer is Rodney Dillard. He now lives in Branson, Missouri and still has a group that performs. My wife and I just saw their show in Salem, Illinois and they did a great job.

  • @SuperMarvinjames

Is it Rodney or Doug? I saw the Dillards on BlueHighways.TV when Ronnie Reno interviewed them and Doug did the lead on everything. But then I don't really recognize that many of them from 40 some odd years ago. I thought Doug always did the lead on most all their tunes.

  • can't wait until D. DOOLEY brings home a BCS Trophy.

  • The Lead Singer looks like Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day

  • andy griffith for president of dixie dont even argue to this

  • @ambariel u cant replace Rocky Top, but i wouldnt mind hearing this ocassionaly

  • I love this! Thanks for sharing!! :D

  • i thought it was julie lol

  • My last name! :D

  • Ernest T is a dead ringer for Will Clark! : )

  • DOOLEY AWSOME

  • Easy to see they influenced Larry Daryl and Daryl.

  • I told my mom for some strange reason I liked this kind of music when usually I find the banjo annoying, and she told me it's because bluegrass is in my bones because her family grew up in MO where it was big. Haha I love Dooley!

  • Sweet Sourmash Singin.

  • bought this song online @ walmart.com by the Dillards. I really like this song.

  • The Andy Griffith Show is timeless.

The Darlings added even more fun to it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • This was played alot after popcorn died.....

  • yes Andy Griffith is still living! Not a lot of cast on the show are living. the ones who are still here today are; Andy, Thelma Lou, Goober, Gomer, Elenor Walker, the Darlings (except for the dad), and Opie! the ones who passed on; Barney, Aunt Bee, Floyd, Otis Cambell, Helen Crump, Peggy and a whole heap more

  • My bluegrass band just started performing this song and "There is a Time," and I ordered all the Andy Griffith seasons. Love the Dillards!!!

  • This was my initiation into Bluegrass! I was about 5 years old!

  • dooley gimme a coin, i'll pay you back one day!

  • I've been looking for this for years, since early 2005 when I first saw it on the andy griffith show. I love this old hillbilly bluegrass and country tunes. So cool!!!

  • @CavenEdwards you can get this song by the Dillards online were music is sold'

  • Can you please add the year this show aired to your video description?

  • In Seattle we have this 'event' called folklife, where 100's of mediocre jug bands come and play. As I walked amongst them I kept thinking of this song. Of which none of the bands came close to matching.

True jug music\bluegrass takes years of practice and dedication. The cats in this band are a testiment to that. Listen to that banjo! Just incredible.

  • the face of the banjo player is priceless....hehe

  • It always tickles me when they just sing and play the instruments emotionless lol

  • love this song, idk why like it so much. I just do. yup.

  • i hope they play this song at halftime of the first game this year. and have mike hamilton out there playing the jug

  • Aaa one and a two and away we go!!!!!!

  • This song made me fall in love with Rodney. I was a very romantic second grader.

  • Nice! The Dillards are awesome so it's no wonder Andy had them on his show all the time - and I love the way Barney is swinging on that chair!

  • i have listen to video idk how many times this is a awsome song

  • cool

  • Best Song ever by the Darlings.

  • I love "Dooley'! Do you have "And I aint gonna be treated this'a way?" I love that one too!

  • the guy singing looks bored out of his mind! but they do an insanely good job!!!

  • Ohh yes..I do remember this. Great !! (5*) Sherry

    Thanks Bill for the share..

  • Remember this well! Thank you for posting!

  • - For those whose Blood Runs Deep Orange, we will be back. I would rather lose with Dooley than win with Kiffen. Just remember if it wasn't for Tennessee Volunteers texans would be going to the University of Mexico...

  • this is going to be the tennessee vols official new fight song since we hired a new football coach derek dooley
