Okay, I have to agree with a good many of your castings. Except, I do have to disagree with your decision to have Mel Gibson as director. I think Ridley Scott would be a much better choice. Ridley Scott, or Peter Jackson. Those are two directors who blow my socks off.
i read this book. After all 670 some pages I put it down and said "What the fuck just happened?"
Never in my entire life have a I read a more unneccesarily complex book. Nothing was ever adequetly explained and the amount of cliches was painfully noticable. It safe to say I will not be reading the second book. And claiming I am too "unintelligent to comprehend Erikson's genius" is Ad Hominem that doesn't address the fact that his books are way to complicated for their own good.
@ih8makinusernames It's true the books are very complicated at the start, but things start coming out as you go along in the series and the who's and why's the things you've read before happened become clear. I've got three books left in the series, until they write more that is, and I've got allot of the bigger stuff figured out. I honestly don't recall the last time I enjoyed a series as much as I have enjoyed the Malazan books. I hope you reconsider and give them another try.
Even hardcore Erikson fans generally have issues with GOTM...Compared to stuff like the Chain of Dogs and The Pannion wars, it's crap. You're right; the writings awful and cliche-ridden and most of the characters are badly drawn- but It was SE's first book. Believe me the rest of the series is awesome... Just try Dead-house- the story of the chain of dogs- The story is comparable to Tolkien's best !!
@redtihor1 I've been hearing a lot of that lately. I'm reconsidering my vow to never pick up that book again but I've heard so much about this series I'm tempted to slog it through GOTM just to get to the good stuff.
@ih8makinusernames I have read the whole series a few times, i love it all, i recommend reading GOTM, and then reading the rest, it is a brilliant series. Also whoever thought the Andii had wings has seriously misread the book...
I totally agree. I bought the first two books at the same time, and if I hadn't, I would definitely have stopped after GOTM. But since I already had Deadhouse Gates I went ahead, and it was fucking awesome! The Chain of Dogs story was one of the coolest things I've ever read.
@zargta LOL andii dont have wings! Rake is a soletaken so he can transform into a black dragon. Just like Osserc, as a white dragon. Andii do not have wings
Don't you just love these books? Love ,love love! Just finished Memories of ice for 2nd time , amazing how much you miss in this series the first time around. When that d**k Kallor does Whiskyjack in; I almost changed my name to "Lump in the throats McGoo!"
I think some of you really need to read the books trough again and pay attention to the details (skincoulour, haircoulour, facial hair, body language, ...) SE tries to give to his characters... Then you can start discussing which actors would be good for what roles...
>>> not that i would ever want to see the books made into a movie or Hood's balls a tv-series...
The books were specifically written so that gender and race within the world were equal, of course in some cases this meant equal rights to kill each other. >.>
no no no, if anyone should be black on the movie, it's quick ben and kalam mekhar, why? because the book says they are. and plus, who's gonna be dujek? hmm? hard to find a one armed actor right?
@1finalfantasyplayer Yes, it should. Lots and lots of characters go through many major events because of their races, and screwing that up could cause continuity problems.
umm race completley matters when you're recreating a character...but i thought kellanved was the same race as Laseen, i dont remember the race but they are blue
3= i'm SO sorry that i didnt put EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER in the trailer. You know, steven erikson ONLY HAS ABOUT 5 CHARACTERS IN EVERY NOVEL. (sarcasm)
to tell you the truth, he has exactly 91 characters in Gardens of the Moon, so i needed to make a decision of who i would put in the trailer.
I don't picture Rake's voice as something like Earl Jones but that's just me... either way, James couldn't play the character. Whiskeyjack as Leeson is pretty good, but Lee as Shadowthrone would totally not work. He wouldn't be crazy enough.
@jiganashi Shadowthorne is simply a mass of shadows. While he was Dal Honese and dark-skinned when he was ruling the Malazan Empire, he's no longer a human- Besides he's always wearing a hood.
guys, just relax. this isnt one of those fake stupid trailers for people who want to make people feel bad. this is more of a "who the cast should be if they were to make a real movie of it"
I think James Earl Jones as Anomander Rake's voice would be pure fucking awesomeness. Although someone has to play him. Seriously. Someone tall and smexy and totally awesome. I can shamelessly say that I had tears in my eyes when he died.
Hood's Balls! Liam Neeson as Whiskeyjack? Neeson is irish giant. James Earl Jones as the voice of Anomander Rake? What does that even mean? Rake doesn't wear a mask. Well, he does at Lady Simtal's party, but that's not the point! He's not Vader for crying out loud.
Viggo, Christopher Lee??!! Hey, I love LOTR as much as the next geek, but come on. Let's expand the horizon a bit. Jeremy Irons maybe, but I pictured Baruk older and a lot fatter.
DAVID JASON AS KRUPPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
