I have 20 years of good experiences and I am glad that I pick a good one from the beginning. As in any business or career you need to do your homework first. unfortunately, like davea0511 says, the vast majority of MLM's are pretty bad, primarily because they are not selling something of real value and the company is not well-financed and the owners lack integrity. Also, those getting involved need to do their research and be realistic about how much work is actually involved. Try out the product and what is the competition? How is the customer service? Uniqueness? Are you just competing against Walmart ? Ask family to refer you but not to get in.

The truth is there are a few good MLMs ... out of 1000's of very bad ones, but even in the "good" one's it takes work and some investment - there's no such as a free lunch. Avoid anything that makes it sound easy, or anything that requires a large investment upfront - which, admittedly, is just about all of them.

I think someone should only do it if they really enjoy the product and/or the parties.

Note: to be really successful & happy target everyone EXCEPT family & pre-existing friends.

This comment I agree with, but let's go further and define a good MLM. A good MLM is one that has a product that actually works and is actually desirable enough that people will buy it WITHOUT knowing of any business opportunity. In that case a likely good number of people in the business are actually just in to get the product at a lower rate or just in to make money through direct sales in certain markets. Even in good MLM's you have to watch out for bad distributors with no integrity.

good MLM doesn't make money off or allow distributors to make money off training other distributors. Money is made off selling the product like any other business. The compensation plan has to be fair enough that people who are good at sales could make a good living on direct sales (eg. that's like a retail store owner of some type who is simply adding the product line to what they already offer). A good MLM is well-financed and managed so that it is not going to shut it's doors in 6 months.

I wrote a simple program, it takes a pool of poeple, (Finite Set) and creates a distribution function. The distribution function at a basic level takes in a few variables, quite simply one of them is how many people each person has under them. I found that if every person had 2 people under them, the result tree would be that HALF of everyone in the (Finite Set) would have NO one below them.

I got mixed up with Amway back in 1976 (probably before you were born) when my FORMER best friend and his wife sucked me in. Over the decades I've watched other people turn into complete nuts even to the point of neglecting their children in a foolish attempt to satisfy their deluded greed. I personally know nobody who, after several years, came out ahead, but I've known plenty who bought a lot of stuff and then was left with a garage full of worthless crap.

I've worked all my life and have been laid off plenty of times and have had to struggle to look for work, but I still accumulated enough to take an early retirement. I've also known people who have failed at business or nearly failed and it is a risk, but it's an honest risk. I ain't wasting any more time on you or this stupid subject, but I'll just say that when talking about MLM's it's just a question of honesty vs delusion. You are either deluded or dishonest if you're in MLM.
