It IS different TAKES on OZ but remember...... technically it is OZ all in an of the same! If Elphaba was a only a woman with issues who was an outsider turned Witch, who is to say if her means took control of her heart and that is how she is perhaps portrayed. A woman so scarred she believed herself to be a Witch! Look at how she treats Dorothy! At least we know why she acts the way she does now. To me they ARE the same,just bring each story to match each other on the same level & you will see

beautiful song... but with galinda, you would have thought they would have her as a blonde, so it fits in with wicked, theyv done most things to fit with wicked, like the ozians costumes!

@00columbia00 Well they intentionally made The Wicked Witch look different from Elphaba, seems to be like they did that with both witches just to point out that they are two different takes on oz.

@00columbia00 Why would they want to fit it in with wicked? They are two different takes on the story and done two completely different ways. Not to mention this wasn't made to "fit in" to Wicked, since the original movie came out in 1939 and had fancy green costumes for the ozians. Wicked did not inspire this show. This show, movie and book inspired Wicked.

@00columbia00 There's countless versions of Oz. Wicked is one, this musical is another. They don't need to be connected.

@00columbia00 You do realise that Wicked is based on this musical, the original of which is over 70 years old....?? Why would they do anything to 'fit with' Wicked?!! It would have to be the other way round! Great Lloyd Webber tune here.

@mushypeas10 No, Wicked: The Musical is based off of The Book "Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of The West", which is based on the original Oz books.

@Boonedaba LOL, I have heard less tenuous arguments during this year's Republican race than that one - and that's saying something. To say that Wicked is not based on the Oz musical - but one book to another defies the genre and is cloud cuckoo. I have no great attachment to either, but I do find the fascination around Wicked somewhat odd.

@Boonedaba Wicked is based on both the MGM movie The Wizard of Oz, and the Gregory Maguire book. It is a blend of the two.
