@555GB Through the MIDI. Just get a sampling software and connect your PC/MAC to the set. Then set it. Don't ask me how cause i really do not know. But i'm sure about this. And you can get other kits man. I don't know what you're using, but you can get other kits for sure. (Garageband)
Check out my video for a demo of all the sounds available on the roland hd-1 and if you like my playing let me know if you want me to do a cover :) im open to suggestions. let me know what you think guys :)
As you guys know, the HD-1 has no customizable drum kit, so im stuck with the 2 (Kit 1 and 2), therefore, having the HD-1 in over 2 years, limits me alot.
So therefore i ask, is there any kind of over computer ''modules'' thats free or pretty cheap, im thinking about things like EZdrummer (but thats expensive), that lets me customise my own kit, pad by pad.
In answer to the Midi out question... Midi out allows you to play an external sound module with your HD1. This is where the fun begins for you the drummer, you now can control... THE WORLD. For instance, try layering a string patch on an external module with your ride cymbal. Or maybe, you might want to use a snare sound on an external sampler instead of, or layered with the HD1. Experiment. For more ideas, check out my Roland V-drum videos on YouTube. EnjoyTom Burns.
The midi out port allows you to trigger sounds in an external device like a computer with drum sound available ( EZ Drummer , BFD etc, Logic 9 etc) or an instrument with a midi input like a keyboard or drum machine. You can't alter the inbuilt sounds via midi.
I think I understand your response. Let us speak in simple terms:
-The MIDI out port allows you to assign different sounds to each piece of the kit so that you can hear sounds other than the default ones when you hit them.
Essentially, I'm asking all of this because I am confused at 1:50 into the video. I see he uses the variation of Kit 3 and it has a very unique sound. Is this just the built in sounds of the kit?
Everything in the video came from the HD1. The only thing is that the audio is compressed a bit by the camcorder so it sounds a bit more "squashed" than it would really be. The midi out is essentially a data port and just outputs data rather than audio and is only an output, not an input.
the kit could benefit from a bit of "tweakability". the pads are really good for the price, but the sampler sucks. for practice, however, it's enough.
i'm glad you got that it was purely sarcasm. and yeah, i think the guy demonstrated the sounds of the kit fine. did he do every little thing? no. but it was decent enough for most drummers or aspiring drummers to get a sense of the sound and sensitivity for 90% of what they'd be doing. there are other vids anyway, you know?
i have got 1 of these and they ARE great if u are thinkin on getin 1 of these u should u can also get earphones for them and they play little demoes if u hold them down that is the numbers get one : )
due to space and neighbour issues i had to sell my accoustic kit and use this to keep my and in - its really good especially the function to enable me to play along to my Ipod
Limited? For the money you spend on this set you won't even buy a decent acoustic kit. With this you get 10 kits, 6 of them are acoustic. And they sound killer.
no, to bad it's not chokable. i don't understand why they did not included chokable crash and ride on the HD1, but other than that, for beginners, or pro's that have little space and want a noiceless mechanic design, it really is a proper electronic drumkit. i have played on a acoustic (my nephew's in a drum basement) and ofcourse that's real drumming, but i can't have that in my home. would wake up the neighbours :-P
i just love the roland hd-1 :-) it has all the right features, and it truely IS simple to set up. there's even a hidden feature that lets you adjust the sensetivity of all the pads in one go :-)
ok bout hidden feature sucks n i tell u y... if tune the sensetivity however u like u ll never understand how accurate ur on acoustic drum set n other sets too...thats my opinion :)
Yes, you would have to get a mount to keep the SPD-S on, but you can get two stereo 1/4 inch jacks from the SPD-S to a mini stereo jack and it will plug in straight through the HD1 :)
Hi im hope!! please check my drumming at my channel :-)

A cool practice kit, but almost impossible to do steady 16th/32nd note patterns on bass pedal.
picure 8 months ago
@picure Exactly. It makes it impossible to do almost anything!! And people, don't flame me. i play this like twice a week at my drums school.

Is there a usb slot to connect it to a computer? I see 5 buttons, are these all the drum samples you can use?

I have a choice between this and the DTXplorer by Yamaha, by your experience which would you say is a better buy?
fing3rbang 1 year ago
@fing3rbang
I used to have a DTXplorer, the drum module is complicated to use and theres too many pointless drums and its big and hefty
buy this drum set, its cheap, small, good looking, straight to the point, able to customize drum sounds if you have the know how
roland make better drums in my opinion, hope this helped

Question..
I see that the HD-1 Lite has a MIDI-Out port.. just to make sure I understand - does that mean I can customize the sample on each piece of the kit?

It makes a great trigger kit though....

if your looking to buy this drums, I would say don't. I've played on these for a while now and they sound nothing alike drums.
They aren't that customizable either. One of the most expensive types, and they aren't as good.

personally, i think the alesis dm5 pro with surge cymbals is better(same price, more sounds), but this set is awesome, i tried at my local music shop
gibson00000000000000 2 years ago
are alesis pads plastic? i mean when u hit them u fell like hitting a desk>?

they're mylar, and they produce some acoustic sound, but it's still better anyway

There not as bouncy as the Roland pads , but they do the job. A little heavier feel and a bit noisier.
