This is really a pretty awful video. You don't show us anything about installing the CPU... you just tell us what to do, which is pretty misleading. And you'd have to be deluded to think that thermalpaste will spread out to all of the cpu.
@ixy1987 You don't need thermal paste. Just a little bit of water on the cpu will become sealed by the fan, and continually act as a coolant. Thermal paste is a waste of money.
@teetertoter3 well, physics dictate that after the water has evaporated from the heat a CPU generates, the temperature WILL continue to rise. so the cpu's temerature will stick around 100 degrees C (which is already not good) for a while, untill all the water is evaporated. then it will continue to rise.
water has no maximum temperature. it would work when the cpu is used for shorter periods of time, and then shut off long enough to let the temperature lower again to room temperature.
at 0:08 he's like "how install motherboards!" like we are 2 fucking years old.
And at 0:44 he says "for a socket 939 like we have here.." I learned this guy is a dumbass. It doesn't matter what socket it is. u do the same thing for every CPU except for cpu fans that have it pre-applied.
ok this vid is dumb like all the ones i see on how to install a cpu on the motherboard you just put it in......lol and it works? i have alot of old computers and wen i pull the cpu out of one and put it back in and turn it on its a black screen...i know i'm no expert....lol i just learn as i go....i'm going to buy a new cpu and motherboard so wen i get it i just put the cpu in and turn it on and it works?..there's no programing the CPU in the motherboard? need a lil help. before i go buying. lol
This is the way it works - the processor (the little chip) by itself, usually falls right in place and essentially, it's good to go. HOWEVER, you can't run the processor without having some sort of cooling unit on it, like the fan and heatsink. It is extremely important to put a fan on top of the chip. Some come with a paste patch underneath the fan and some don't. Fans that come straight from the company usually do. In this case, he is putting paste for the fan.
and this looks like a 939 amd board and unless the cpu is oem u don't use grease! or you will void the warranty! intel and amd both have this posted on there sites!
This video is retarded. ok that is way too much paste,. and it needs to be spread out before you put on the heat sink. These videos need to be of better quality. ExpertVillage should only use people that the name of their channel implies
This video should NOT be used as an instructional video. I can not stress this enough, when working with expensive parts like processors PLEASE take your time. There is no need in rushing the thermal paste. Take your time and evenly spread it so you know that there is no excess flowing off into your MoBo and you know that there is an even amount spread across the CPU.
lol, just take a plastic bag, put ur finger in it, and push it, until it takes ur finger's shape! Now, cut that shape, put it at ur finger, and start spreading the paste around the CPU. Thats the best way, i think...
I just recently bought an E8200 with an intel core 2 duo stock heatsink. the processer fit in perfectly but the heatsink did not. I used to have a Intel Pentium dual-core and the Pentuim dual-core stock heatsink, which u had 4 screws that fit in my mobo fine. BUT my new core 2 duo heat sink has 4 push-ins instead of the screws. The push-ins wont fit in the four little holes (thats what she said...) on my mobo. Any ideas?
P.S can i use my old Pentium dual-core stock heatsink for my E8200?
like they are scared to make long detailed video's.. damn
even ur neighbour wouldnt get how to put cpu after watching this crap, u people didnt even show u need to be careful with the socket pins, im 12 and i even know that jesus..
NO NO not a good way to put the thermal past on the CPU, you don't just put a massive BLOB in the middle and hope the heat sink with spread it out for you if that don't spread out properly there will be air gaps and you will end up with hot spots that will kill your CPU, you apply a small amount to the center and use a business card or credit card or something and spread it out evenly.... i thought these people are supposed to be experts?
actually i have got my computer back from the shop about 1 month ago because this thing got really loud and suddenly just shut off, so i took it back to the shop and the guy said it was because the thermal past looked like it had been put on by a 2 year old, and that was not a custom build that was one bought from a shop and OEM one so HP built it, so yes I'M saying the manufacturers are wrong!.
thats why when i get a new cpu or heat sink i scrape of the crapy stuff and put some decent stuff on because the stuff they put on is normally cheap nasty crap. I'm not saying that the manufactures are wrong but think about it, they are on a tight demand for these things and they need to keep cost down they haven't got time to piss about taking ages to nicely sped it out making sure its even they just need the numbers out , not trying to start an argument I just saying, don't take any offense
Most manuals, like the how-to from AS5 and MX-2, as well as numerous ppl on fora, tell you NOT to spread it. There are 2 clips here showing you that spreading it has more chance to making airgaps.
yeah thats a good point but the IT corse i did told me never to do that and in my experience its better to spread it out evenly thats why most thermal compound comes with a little plastic spreader, its not just to look pretty it there to use...
no aggression at all here like you I'm just saying, i think its a case of personal preference because iv seen allot of video saying to spread it and allot saying to use the heat sink personally i think its better to spread it...
@viperfrank That is exactly what you CANNOT do, a blob in the middle is actually correct! Spreading it around with a credit card or whatever makes air bubbles more likely to form... and I have backup evidence for my claim. Go to Innovation Cooling's website and read their guide on application instructions for their paste.
you will have to apply the heatsink yourself, as for the thermal compound you will be able to tell when you look at the bottom of the heatsink if it is there or not

Yes, any CPU can and SHOULD have a fan and/or heatsink on it. Otherwise, your CPU can burn out. They get really really hot!
