Deja Vu - a track published on a debut album ; when Lady T was in her early twenties - simply phenomenal track. I can remember the time I first woke up to it ; 1989; wedding reception (eating time) ; I had to leave my table and quiz the dj on who was singing the background track. Didn't waste time ; i bought the track a few days later; been an even bigger fan since.

Grew up on Teena's fast tracks; grown older on slower ones too. Deja Vu is in my top 10 tracks of all time. RIP Lady T

I am not sure if the world will ever know what a Treasure She Is. She has a great voice of course, but she blazed trails for women in the music industry. She wrote and produced her own stuff, (although i think this album is produced by RJ). She plays guitar and piano. She sued Motown to get out of a bad contract, won and paved the way for other artists.  I wish it wasn't significant that she is a white woman, singing R&B, but the fact is, her being white IS significant.

Winding down after Xmas with my grandson to color, KBLX radio plays this and I tell him hold on baby this is Teena gotta turn her up...so I am just humming it and feeling happy and then it ends and dj says we just lost her and I can't believe it...all of the sudden tremendous pain.
