This is WAAAAAY better than the series. lol I mean, it's kind of scene by scene, but the movies add way more depth, a waaay better script, way better voice acting, way better animation, way better sound and music, and new characters and plot points. The fourth movie in the re-imagining is even supposed to be something completely new.

@AnAmbientGrey 1.11 will amaze you but if you buy 2.22 for Christmas, that movie will leave you utterly stunned. The voice acting is just phenomenal throughout and the movie is so touching and crazily action-packed that it'll make your body tingle at every scene. The beauty of the animation's lighting and detail is just astonishing and the soundtrack is wonderful as well. I really hope you can get both movies cuz' you're going to be begging for more after 1.11.

@guitarfanatic2010 Probably a bit late to answer. In Australia and NZ, there were three DVD releases. The first was Evangelion 1.0 published by Red Ant. This DVD is actually 1.01, but only contains the Japanese dub. Evangelion 1.01 published by Madman has the English and Japanese dub. Finally there was 1.11 published by Madman as well (also on Blu-Ray), is the definitive version with the most scenes. This release also contains both the English and Japanese dub.

Watch 2.0 and stand in awe. I kind of dislike Misato's dub, she seems too sexy and somewhat dumb, while her real voice seems more serios and determined.

Ritsuko does say the word Evangelion gracefully. But the trailer itself seems too cliche.

I attended a panel at the anime convention in Chicago (ACEN), and they said that somethings were completely different (i.e. Shinji's appearance was supposed to look more Japanese), but they were definitely right about the angels' appearance. But I really can't wait to see this remake!

The only real flaws were that the scenes don't flow together at all. They're just didn't connect, very chunky. Also, the typical disjointed anime voice acting. They couldn't have fixed the lip flaps for at least somewhat realistic dialogue? Other than that, eh, it's Eva. The next one looks better. I just hope they don't cram it with new characters and plot points.

Wow... the dub actually sounds really good. I wasn't a fan of the original english dub (I know, I know, the cast is 90% the same) because it, like most 90's anime dubs, sound pretty cheesy. This one, though most of the original cast returns, sounds... I don't know... more "right".

Okay I finally watched it and I knew it was a remake of the first four episodes, but it would like exactly the same. Like, the angles and the facial expressions are exactly the same on some shots, so it's like watching the show only with smoother drawings. And also, Rei was way different. Those are my only complaints. But I'd say it's worth buying.

I imagine it was just because it was the first movie so theypretty much had to make it all the same.. for 2.0 I'm quite sure it won't be like that.

Ohyeah and one other thing I noticed was that it seemed like they had a lot more bubbles visible when Shinji's in the entry plug, and it's been a while since I saw the first few episodes but I remember in the latter part of the series it was hard to remember that there even was liquid in there..

and I gaveyou a thumbs up to make it neutral again :)

I'm really excited for this to come out in the US on DVD I've been waiting for ages... but from the trailer I notice a few differences that slightly bother me. Like why'd they get a new logo for NERV? The old one was cool... and Lilith's mask is kinda weird, I thought the purple SEELE one made it look more sketchy. And I also heard they changed Asuka's last name in the second one?

Yeah they changed around a couple of things for the movie including the nerv logo which is supposed to be an upside down apple. They also changed Liliths mask like you said. One more thing, yeah they changed asukas last name to Shikinami so now her name is Asuka Langley Shikinami, not Asuka Langley Sohryu. Honestly, I have no idea why

this is what i dont get, when you get video games they usually come out dubbed in several languages on release lets say for example halo ODST which is dubbed in all the major europien and languages. however with anime it usually takes sveral years to dub it.

It's not the dubbing process that takes so long, it's the licensing. Most publishers for major video games have international branches, and so they distribute their own material overseas. With anime, it's a different story. Looking at Evangelion, it's a big-name franchise and its production studio does not have an international distribution branch, so they basically auction it off to whichever international distributor(s) can pay the most for it, and this usually takes a long time.

If you look at a video game released in Japan by a publisher that can't or won't distribute it overseas, you'll see that there is a similarly large gap between when it comes out there and here. Also, I've heard that companies are afraid of Japanese consumers importing American DVDs since they are generally cheaper.

All that said, the anime industry is broken in many ways, and this distribution model is definitely a flawed one. But that's a discussion of its own.
