I love Detroit. I was born there and lived almost downtown. .I left at age ten and have been back as late as 2001. I still loved it. Nobody mentions the lilacs, in Spring. No place smells like Detroit in the Spring. In 1701 my gggggrandfather started a farm near the river -- Chene Street. Detroit has had hard times but poverty is not a crime. The Detroit Library downtown used to be open 24-7. It is still a fine library. I used to walk to the Art Institute. Detroit is my city.
