@Nicksolo85 Johnny Cage was based on Van Damme. Mortal Combat was originally supposed to be a Van Damme game but it was too expensive to get the copyright so they turned his character into Johnny Cage and went from there.

I'm not sure who Kobra's supposed to be based on. Some people say he's based on Ken from SF but (mostly due to his outfit & personality) he reminds me more of Johnny Lawrence from the original Karate Kid

I'm not really sure who the other fighters are based on (if they're even supposed to be based on anyone)

I know Scorpion & Sub-Zero are like the Ryu & Ken of MK

only noticable similarities with real life people or other movie/game chars are: sonya/cynthia rothrock, raiden/big trouble little china rayden, kitana/psylocke, kobra/kobra kai johnny(karate kid) to name a few.

well you have to remember that movie came out not so long after the bruce lee era, and at the time, making a face like you had a hard time evacuating your buritos and the weirdest noice noise as possible were 95% of what made you a true kung fu mastah, the fact you could barely lift your leg highter than your belt was never put into account :P
