I have a Big muff with tone wicker and I must say that is way cool, but recently I've heard the mastotron and seriously, it has a very lovely sound. I wouldn't change my big muff for the mastotron but sure I'll put it together with this little bastard in order to get that dirty and crunchy sound.
@TeleMA50c I agree. I own a RAT, and have demoed a friend's Big Muff. Big Muff doesn't just distort, or fuzz, it adds a completely different tone as well.
Well, I bought a Distortron. It's a little more garbled on the low end than the RAT. Fuller but more garbled. That's not a bad thing though because it sounds a little more amp-like. Otherwise the two sound surprisingly similar. I have a feeling the Distortron is going to wind up bumping the RAT as my meat & potatos distortion sound, with the RAT doing high gain duties. It's a tough call though. Both sound great. I just think the Distortron has a slightly more natural and fuller low end.
seems like my muff's broken or smth.. it ALWAYS sounds muddy and changing chords mostly just keeps ringing the previous one with the pedal.. am I doin something wrong or should I return it to the shop?
@DarkAngelEU I've never had that problem at all, if you can, go try one at guitar center or wherever just to see if it's you or if it's your pedal doing something wrong.
@westpsmity I checked and I think it's my muff. At the store they were kinda better, but I think it's just not really my style either =/ got a new one, gonna trade it with a mate for a RAT ;)
@DarkAngelEU Yeah, the muff is kind of a one trick pony, if it's not your style, there's really nothing that can be done but get a new pedal :) Good choice on the RAT!
I think the ZVex is more classic old sound, the RAT alternative 'indie' sound, and the Muff is more metal sound. The ZVex sounds like BOSS SD-1, i own one and you can get Led Zep sound.
BIG MUFF! BIG MUFF! BIG MUFF! BIG MUFF! BIG MUFF!

This is a great demo. So many are done so poorly. Thanks for a clear, concise demo, with many different tones.

Guess I'm partial to the big muff. Great demo though!

Best shoot-out of the RAT and Muff. Some other retard played something completely different in clean than with pedals on.

I don't really care of which to buy, because i have them on a multi effect pedal XP

would you consider the distortron a overdrive or a distortion?

The RAT is a great pedal but can lack low end. How's the low end on the Distortron?

Very nice demo, decided me on the RAT. I really didn't like that first one but the sovtek sounded very good as usual

It is cool that you own those three...

I have a NYC Muff which is a fuzz. If I'm not mistaken the Rat is a distortion. Can you find uses for both?
andy92811 1 year ago
@andy92811 I've recently got hold of a Proco TurboRAT, it's pretty similar to the RAT.
You can do some Fuzz on it, but it's mostly distortion, however it is possible!
MikeNolan321 1 year ago
@MikeNolan321 Yeah since then I got a vintage rat ri. Very nice fuzzy distortion sound.
andy92811 1 year ago
@andy92811 Yup, can't go wrong with a RAT really!

@MikeNolan321 is it versatile? can u get Randy Rhoads and Zeppelin sounds out of it?
