look at the man who sticks his head out the door at 2:09 he is the guy who played in the john wayne movie Mclintock.he was the old man who saw the hat on the weather vane and said not again.he also played in several Clint Eastwood movies.he was in the movie every which way but loose.he played the caretaker of the trailer park.he was the one who was asleep in the chair with the hose in his hand when the motor cycle gang came looking for Philo Betto
The musical soundtrack is similar to the one issued with their first "talkie" (alternately issued in a SILENT version, with a Victor sound-on-disc soundtrack), "Unaccustomed As We Are" (1929).
@2864jp go to ebay check it or amazine there out there it will come with more shorts battle of the centry it starts with stan fighting in a ring, the lost films or epasodes, good luck ,,,,,
What I never understood is that they could get MUSIC behind this 'dumb movies', but no voices? Music or voices, what's the difference, both are sounds. ??
"Dumb movie" is probably too literally translated from what we call "domme film" in Dutch. And "these movies" refer to all movies without spoken sounds (not just this one). But your right, English is not my first language. :-)
@Snowwie88 Oh.... Okay. But, what does "domme" mean? I wasn't trying to insult you, but reading my post it may have come out that way... so I removed it.
@Snowwie88 The music you see attached to these films here or on DVD was added later. Most silent movies had no sound track at all: the theater had a pianist or even small band or orchestra which performed music while the movie was being projected.
Later, movie companies created records to go with the film - but they didn't have any way of making it match up, the way you need to do with dialog. In 1927 they invented a way to sync the soundtrack directly with film.
@Snowwie88 they didn't have good technology until 1929. Before from 1926 at Warner Brothers they were releasing films with a musical sound track recorded on a disc. Most people will not believe this but people did not want sound then. Sound on film was introduced by Thomas Edison in the 1890's but it did not sound very good.
Can't help but admire the elegant clothes the characters were wearing. Despite the comic violence, they did it with style. Loved those old comedies. How I wish Hollywood produced good stuff like that again.
@wixterdude thats so cool you live near were he lived im only about 30 minutes from were he lived in cal stan was a very nice guy so was hardy they are the best there every was...........thanks for your comment freind.
Thanks, Mustangshivers007, for this fabulous pie fight. The lady in the car with the lorgnette appears to be Margaret Dumont of later fame with the Marx Brothers. Can you identify which particular Laurel & Hardy movie this clip is from? I'd like to credit the actual film in a short YouTube video I'm making. Thanks! -OnceFreeAmerican

Totally brilliant. I watched the almost 45 years ago when I was a wee lad and laughed myself silly. Without wishing to get too political. But you can in a nutshell see how conficts of a more serious nature start.
This just about reduces the whole of war to level of the absurd, which of course it is.
A big pie fight is also here :
