Cannabis is illegal because big business such as the tobacco, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, and other such industries see it as a threat to their profits. The government loves charging people like Tim Timmions and others with non violent crimes. Government loves the war on drugs b/c its infinite war on its own citizens. Legalization is a threat to the war b/c the other illegal drugs wouldn't be enough for the war to be as big as it is now.

Each one of 13 states that have legalized medical cannabis have used slightly different barometers as to what constitutes a qualified patient as well as how the cannabinoids can be administered.

Both Canada and Great Britain have now approved a sublingual spray called Sativex. It appears toy represent a better synthesis of all the cannabinoids than Marinol

But living is what we are talking about.

Soda - Sugar buzz and tastes good

Tea - Tastes great and has a pick me up

Coffee - Kick starts the day, more productive

Pot - Relaxes, sets the tone for a calm evening.

All of these are quality of life...much better than that of Big Pharma

You're right JC--the only way it could happen would be at a federal level, perhaps with the Barney Franks / Ron Paul bill. The logical way for that bill to gain steam would be for a state like California to legalize, then tax and regulate it to pay off their debt--once the money started rushing in--Congress would look ridiculous if they didn't pass some form of bill, even if only for medical marijuana.

Obama does not want to override ANY state law. If enough states ok medical cannabis the gov. will be out of it totally. States rights..states taxes..farmers prosper..only Texans can make it happen in Texas. I get the feeling - if you're talking about the San Francisco raid - that the DEA supported their action based on alleged financial infractions.

It'll take another year or so to judge the President on how well he's been able to rein in the arms of the DEA - I'm guessing that there are times he has to go to bed right now thinking that he might have underestimated his opponent ... and ours.
