  • @4ndyw45h3r3 Look at his channel?

  • What are you guys talking about, you can't play Jazz without a feel for Blues. Anyway, this is a wonderful solo.

  • Man, you play very well and I actually enjoyed your music... But this is jazz not blues! hahaha

  • MY GOD!! TEACH ME MASTAAAAAA!! for real upload a video

  • hey can u tell me what that song is called

  • nice

  • @supersaxsonic stfu are you really saying there's rules to improvisation?

  • how do you get that perfect sound??? :O

  • This is a real nice sound - why do people just pick holes on things fpr the sake of it. Listen to some of the great jazz musicians about breaking the rules - they don't give a damn.

  • I personaly find Blues being one of the hardest common form to solo over. Even in the simple blues (I IV V) you've got like three different alterations within the key because they are all dominant 7 chords. Then you've got the jazzier blues that turns into a major key turn around (like this one) and weird ones with tritone subbed turn-arounds. Yet almost every school teacher starts teaching kids to solo using blues. lol, I personally find minor blues much easier to manage.

  • @mastersgta1 They teach kids the blues because it's actually very easy to solo over in a high school setting (no more than a blues scale). It's the difference between soloing, and soloing WELL though.

  • YOU ARE PLAYING THE WRONG SCALE!!!!

    I PLAY ALTO SAX TO!!!

    MORON!

    TAHT'S Bflat!!!

  • @supersaxsonic Chili out buddy, spend a little less time playing video games and read some jazz theory might be a good idea before you criticize... You've a lot to learn.

  • @supersaxsonic Oh boy! Some people - sigh!

  • beautiful =)

  • ahh your good :D im in grade nine and i freeze when the band teacher says to try a solo based on Bb blues scale D: i suck at improv D:

  • That sounds so cool! How long have you been playing for? What scales did you use?

  • Im a cannonball man myself, luv the sound i can get out of it. IF U WANNA PLAY SAX AND RLY COMMIT TO IT, CANNONBALL IS GREAT! Ive been playing for 2 years and am rly getting my sax to wail hardcore >:D I luv it and suggest the sax to everyone ^~^

  • I need some good jazz beats so i can practice my improving..

Does anyone know where i can find them?

  • @shelbylovescookiehs Jamey Aebersold has lot's of jazz backing tracks. Go to his website.

  • nice tone man is that a cannonball vintage!

  • man...

    what is this!!?!

    i'm crazy for u music...

    congrats

  • Very nice, respect. But to me, this sounds more jazzy than it does blueslike.

  • @NickAlmelo It's called Jazz-Blues. It's your normal 12 bar with a jazz turn-around in the last four bars.

  • @NickAlmelo

Blues is a genre of Jazz. Heck, even Kenny G. is considered a jazz musician.

  • @NickAlmelo in jazz you still jam on the 12 bar blues progression and consider it a blues even though your phrasing is in a jazz way. if you listen to his backing track you can hear the piano is playing jazz voicings and the bass playing a walking bass line. so this wasnt intended to be a blues in the way bb king does a blues more a "jazz" blues e.g. tenor madness, billies bounce, blues for alice.

either way it sounded great in my opinion

  • @papersky1 not blues for alice- thats a bird blues which is quite different from the 12 bar blues

  • @NickAlmelo dude the blues is a chord progression as well as a style of music. This is improvisation over a Bb blues chord progression- not a blues-styled song. just so you know

  • @NickAlmelo do you know what a jazz blues is?...

  • @NickAlmelo It becomes almost a matter of semantics. Jazz comes from the blues so it should sound kinda bluesy. Not all blues is 12 bar 1-4-5 or 1-5-4

Nice work man. Thanks for sharing.

  • @NickAlmelo

Jazz is based off the blues.

    Oh lord...

  • @SupahflyJazzguy They're still very, distinctly different

  • @NickAlmelo Just a little after C. Parker?

  • @NickAlmelo Blues is jazz? Jazz can be blues. Lots of different classifications for jazz. Like Latin Jazz, Swing, Funk, and in the case Blues.

  • @NickAlmelo Listen to some Coltrane and then come back and enlighten us with your wisdom.

  • @NickAlmelo

    dumbass blues is jazz

  • @NickAlmelo agreed, and doesn’t jazz have more of a faster tempo then the blues? like jazz has more eighth notes the the blues.

  • @NickAlmelo Its really not jazzy. Its moves faster like jazz does, but its definitely blues. Jazz is a lot more upbeat and generally sounds a lot happier than this and the back track is definitely blues

  • @Leviathanguitarist01 Come on, guys. It's jazz, but the chord progression is a blues.

  • @NickAlmelo

You do realise that blues is played in jazz right?

  • HEY MAN! VERY GOOD! TEACH ME SOMETHING,PLEASE! SOME SCALES OR PHRASES!

  • That's some fine picken. I could stand some more.

  • Jazz players take what they think is blues music and they end up playing something that sounds like soft jazz. Most any blues musician will tell you so. Anyway, great playing.

  • @SoldatSolutrea

Hey we can't help it, its just in our soul.

  • You're so FREAKING *&^%$#! GOOD

Why don't you make a longer video.

I'll be doing my homework and every time it stops, I have to put it on again:P

    Keep on going man.

    P.S. I'm jealous

  • @DelaneyHF Really? No offense, this guys pretty good

but if you want to listen, listen to the masters, john coltrane, charlie parker, miles davis, charles mingus, cannonball adderley, etc.. could go on and on

  • very good

  • is that a cannonball sax fat neck?

  • cool

  • r3ally r3ally nice :D

  • wow its so nice

  • Hi, I'v been wondering how to learn to improvise on sax. Do i first need to practice and memorize scales/arpeggio's and get them right up to speed before attempting to improvise?

Bassically i have no idea what to do :)

Haha can somebody help me. thanks

  • @oldmanpker yes and you also need to transpose/transcribe a lot of licks and solos... that is ofc if u want to get rlly good at it

  • @oldmanpker hi I know exactly how you feel!

I'v been told it helps alot to at first get to know a few scales really well and to make it easier pick 3 notes from that scale and concentrate on them. After you find you are comfortable with a certain scale then the most important thing is to relax and not to think about what you want to play! Thats the mistake I make alot of the time, because whats in ur head will almost never come out of ur sax, which can be a bit off putting but ppl wont notice!

  • have my sax babys

  • I love this book. You are so good, can you write me a solo for it? LOL.

  • ignore the condescending jerks. I wish I could improv like that. : )

  • Biss slide!! not good!

  • I haz the same horn :D

  • Nice tone man!!

  • Yanagisawas are great saxophones, i have a 901. But what mouthpeice are you using?

  • sounds great dont listen to these dickheads i play the sax they prolly suck nuts anyways

  • Nice tone.

  • Its a Yanagisawa :D

  • Nice tone

  • nice well done

  • nice good tone

  • Genial

  • i wanna hear some rips man

  • tone=A+

  • what mouthpiece are you using?

  • Haha, I just got through practicing this exact track. I have to say that you're playing very well and linearly. Good job. :)

  • Nice sound! :D

  • woo!

  • u sound like u playing the tenor... thts one way to tell a good alto player from a bad one

  • man if I only could play like you...

    blessings for you man.

hey would you hlp me to improve my skills??? send me some excercises???

  • Comment removed

  • ERES EL MEJOR!

  • great man... Is it my mistake or I heard a little bebop for a while? Congrats...

  • @diohmc Ah yeah, I hear it too.

  • this video gets so many views =/

  • Oh lord, "what scale are you using"... i facepalmed

  • @theinvisiblelight It sounds to be the Bb blues scale with a little extra... he has nice skills though. love it.

  • @qxtroidinare I was implying that 'what scale' was just the wrong question to ask. He was using a wide variety of modes and scales over a Bb blues backing track.

  • @theinvisiblelight why? i am a noob

  • @theinvisiblelight im guessing he doesn't know blues scales... probably just playing what sounds good to him...

  • @ritzcrackers27 Um no. Actually. Don't be ignorant. Listen to how he moves with the changes.

  • that was really good, what blues scale was that?

  • he's following the changes, not just one specific scale

  • @xAcidArmorx that wasnt the blues scale, hes playing over chords changes, and very well at that:)

  • it's the G blues scale

    for Eb.

  • what scale are you using?

  • he is i play saxophone as well and i can tell, hes a great sax player

  • @subnormaldeer yes he is

  • nice sound

  • what is this scale?? its blues??

  • That's class hi fare play to you.

  • laughin my damn ass off at the Peccadillo Circus, that video is fuckin retarded, he should tour with kenny G definately, Anyways Good job on this

  • the only jazz album i have is Kind of Blue but ur playing did sound alot like Coltranes from that

  • You might like band's new video "So What" video, originally from that record. We updated and improved the sound.

  • AWESOME

Now this is a dude who knows his improv im one of the best jazz players at my school

what i do is let the notes flow dont use this scale crap thats an important part of improv yes but not ever the most important thing theres a whole lot more to improv then scales and notes its about feeling

  • this "scale crap" is actually very important. If u were such a good player u wud know tht.

  • Wrong again, "z-ball". My band has moved way beyond such primitive theories. Check out our new video, "Peccadillo Circus" for some proper MODERN jazz.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the 21st century!

  • Comment removed

  • @number1saxophone

Clearly you would have "moved way beyond such primitive theories" if you play modern jazz, but this is the blues, which is a very systematic form; knowing your scales and thoery definitely comes into play.

  • Agreed zbalder. Know your scales, chord changes and jazz and/or blues scale change rules. (improv of course, or you could go modern and just dick it all up and be prude).

Anyway i leave with the note with, the only way to be good at Jazz or blues is to Transcribe, period.

  • how long you been playing

  • BIRD!!!!!

  • Man that sounds sweet!!!! Great tone.
