Since I've had my laptop there is no end to my love of swing jazz and bebop with all the greatest jazz artists in the world. My LIFE is now COMPLETE. LONG LIVE THIS WONDERFUL MUSIC WITH THE STARS THAT WILL LIVE FOREVER....................... THE CELT
As I pour another glass of whiskey, I sink into my chair... The darkness of the room, the smoke dancing off a lit cigarette as the flicker of a dead bulb radiates through my soul, I wonder....WHY this song has to end at just 7 minutes!?
Count Basie All Stars: Emmett Berry, Doc Cheatham, Joe Newman, Joe Wilder (tp); Roy Eldridge (tp, flhn); Vic Dickinson, Benny Morton, Dicky Wells (tb); Earl Warren (as); Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster (ts); Gerry Mulligan (bs); Count Basie (p); Freddie Green (g); Eddie Jones (b); Jo Jones (d)
this was a jzz sampler for american tv in Dec 1957--gathering all the greats for one great jam session---it was dedicated to Hot Lips Page who should've been there-but who was too ill to attend-he died hortly thereafter.
@theemperorsclothes I think this was a televised special on CBS(?) in 1957 called "This is Jazz". I believe there are other clips from this special posted on youtube.
Vic Dickenson, Harry Edison, Roy Eldridge, Billy Holliday, Jo Jones, Freddie Green... what a line-up! Can't get better than that! Must be early fifties
Thanks for this video with realy great music!

Good thing Dickie was awake this session, his solo is a little sleepy though :o)
Seeing Billie Holiday looking good and moving around talking to the guys...
watching Count and Jo Jones playing
takes us back to Kansas City...a taste of what it was like in the day
boy oh boy
no playback
and long before autotune and producers took over from musicians

Everybody who was really great is here, either playing or hanging in there, Billie Holiday and Jimmy Rushing. Perfection......
