I remember as this happened. Van Zantem was`nt cleared for take off and was in a rush getting back home.
The irony was, KLM searched and wanted him to investigate the crash (he was the master pilot of KLM) but noticed later HE was the one flying the plane.
and imagine whats going to happen with over 400 seats ejecting out of the plane at the same time? chutes will be tangled, the trajectory wont be perfect every time so people will crash into each other on ejection...
plus being ejected at 40,000 feet,
1) you will go unconcious within 2 second and dead before a minute due to lack of oxygen, and
2) you will freeze to death at minus 56 degrees...
It wasnt that he was an idiot, there was a crapload of fog, which arent safe flying conditions. his only choice was to turn the plane off the runway, which he did not have enough time to do.
Holy Bleep, do you know where I can look at the NTSB report? That looks like it happened in the 70s or something. That must be the worst incident involving 747s.
terrible!!!

XCraftllc...It remains the worst disaster in world commercial air history. All but three people on both planes perished.

Not true. About half of the people onboard the Pan Am flight survived, including the flight deck crew. All aboard the KLM died.
