dude can you send me the scematics for this one? we are gona build a 5.1 set at my school xD dono if the bass is possible and havn't found any schematics for it. but i would love you if you could send me the complete schematics for this one
No, a fellow lab tech and myself experimented with these systems once. Like everyone else we wondered what would happen if we touched the plasma stream. So we did. Incredibly we were transported to an alternate dimension where an excellent adventure ensued. My colleague didn't make it back alive, but he did heroically sacrifice his own life to save mine.
if you bring the electrdes closer together on the louder beats it wont phase out... the louder the sound is the closer the electrodes have to be together!!!
well, to tell the truth, you'd most probably get burned badly and if you're lucky, you'd survive (depends how you touch, are you grounded etc..) no volunteers yet.. ;)
If you where not grounded IE you were on a large rubber mat while wearing rubber shoes while touching nothing else but the electrons coming out you would just get a shock.
if you were to touch that arc, it would give you more than just a shock, that's several thousand volts, it would knock the shit out of you, and would burn you, quite probably very very badly. That arc is hot, even standing near it for too long will give you a light sunburn like burn from the UV radiation produced
It is thousands of Volts, but a very low amount of Ampères. Electrical shocks are mostly defined by their current. You would get a shock when touching this, I don't oppose that fact, but it's not dangerous when at very low currents. If the arc had a high current, well, let's just say you wouldn't see it for long.
It's like an electric fence (for agriculture purposes!). They have Voltages easely up to 10.000 V, but the shock isn't harmful due to the low current.
@Recon985 - Just electricity. It might be unpleasant, or burn your finger, but it shouldn't kill you unless you grab one electrode with your left hand and the other with your right hand or something.
Thanks :D No, I didn't make many changes, I built my own power supply and I decreased the input voltage (55V instead of 60V DC)because the IRF540's were overheating. When I did that, 2 days after I was searching on the internet and saw IRF840.. Same as IRF540 but for 8A (instead of 5)... But I still left it preety much the same :)
Thunderstruck and plasma speaker - great!! :D

What are the risks of a plasma speaker? Are they huge fire-hazards or pretty safe? And of course, what happens if you touch the stream?
FLuidmetal 2 years ago
Well, as far as I know, it puts out alot of EMI (most of the TVs around the house don't work - snowing :P) Safe... Not really xD
If you touch the plasma. Everybody asks that, still dodn't get any volunteers xD Most probably it'd burn your finger :P
TheDexboy 2 years ago
@TheDexboy You could possibly solve that EMI problem with a faraday cage around the speaker.

Plasma speakers aren't hard to make. They cost roughly $20-30 US.
Just don't electrocute yourself.

do you know this basic formular? I = U/R ?
if you have 10000V and a resistance of 1500Ohm (more or less the resistance of a body)
you get 6A....thats a hell alot and more than enough to die from...
the question is, can the powersupply deliever this energy? of course, it cannot....
if you touch an arc, the voltage will immediately drop
remember, if you fix the voltage the circuits resistance will define the current!

that is because the irf840 has a higher internal resistance. creating more heat ;P

What ZVS means? O.o
Zero Voltage Switching. its easy to make and draw strong arcs!
search in google ''zvs driver''
for audio modulation ''zvs audio modulation''
mumish13 3 years ago
WOW! That is cool! And an awesome tune too!!
Have fun mate,

so what modulator are you using tl494 555 check my chanel and look at my plasma speaker
jovicakluk 3 years ago
I'm using SG3525, it's a simple PWM curcuit :)
TheDexboy 3 years ago
curcuit =P nice!
But is possible to make a audio modulation with the single transistor flyback driver using the audio modulation for zvs's
mumish13 3 years ago
sorry I'm not much into the HV stuff yet so I don't really know what you mean with "zvs"
I've looked around for this but haven't found any decent info...
