143AC: I definitely remember Popeye Theater with Sally Star. She not only had Popeye on, but The Three Stooges, The Funny Company, Corageous Cat and Minute Mouse, Clutch Cargo, and Batfink as well. She used to come on at 4 o'clock (where Oprah is today) One time, I entered a King Midas Spaghetti Ring contest, but I never one.
It's a shame that there are no locally-produced kids shows on TV anymore; especially in the morning. Nothing against thenews, but there's just too much junk.
Thunderbolt Mountain! How did I ever forget that one? Yeah, KHJ was trying different things during that period. But then, it WAS the era of "Shrimpenstein," wasn't it? Anything was possible...
thank you dino for posting the above clip...What a surprise after all these years. It brought back many wonderful memories of you and the melrose street gang!
There was a Popeye show here in Philadelphia during that time as well, hosted by Sally Star. I used to watch it everytime I came home from school. As a matter of fact, when I was in the fourth grade, I was actually talking Popeye talk.

Am I the only one who remembers when Holly donned superhero drag and ran "Hercules" carttons for his short-lived show as Zolar?

Not at all! I remember that show very well, and Bill still has color picture cards in his Zolar from Thunderbolt Mountain getup.
Watch my channel for more Holly archival clips coming soon.
