Remember that video of incidents like this usually doesn't begin until the incident is well under way. I doubt ALL of the protesters were lying on the pavement. What were the other protesters doing before the vehicles ran over the people lying on the road? IF the other protesters were acting in a manner that made the vehicle drivers feel physically threatened, would you expect them to remain stationary and become victims of an unruly mob?
I don't know if this is confirmed or not, but the protesters were protesting the loss of their homes due to rainfall. But again, losing your home is one thing, but I don't see why they would protest on a highway. They should've been protesting infront of the governor's office or the Palacio de Miraflores (equivalent to the White House in the U.S.) Many Americans had their homes foreclosed on them but I don't recall seeing anyone acting in this suicidal manner then or even now. A damn shame.

Roadblocks are made by tractors, trucks and clear signals, to stop someone break through, and to make sure that block is visible form far away. Branches and mattresses plus unidentifiable angry mob - certain death.
This is upsetting to me too. I hate the fact that these people got hurt. I attend protests and demonstrations for numerous causes I believe in as well; I believe in democracy and freedom of speech/expression. However, this protest was just done ALL WRONG. Luckily, NOBODY was killed in this incident. But those people wrapped in white linens did not even look like people to me so I wouldn't put too much blame on the bus driver/car. Nobody should protest in such a manner on the HIGHWAY - EVER.

No, it's absolutely fine to protest. Freedom of speech and expression is important. But there's a time, place, and method in which to effectively and intelligently protest. I think it's unfortunate that four people were run over, however, the protesters should be held liable as well. The highway does not belong to the people - it isn't something that you can close down for your personal purpose - whether it be political, personal, etc. What did these protesters expect?! I don't know if this is confirmed or not, but the protesters were protesting the loss of their homes due to rainfall. But again, losing your home is one thing, but I don't see why they would protest on a highway. They should've been protesting infront of the governor's office or the Palacio de Miraflores (equivalent to the White House in the U.S.) Many Americans had their homes foreclosed on them but I don't recall seeing anyone acting in this suicidal manner then or even now. A damn shame.

Roadblocks are made by tractors, trucks and clear signals, to stop someone break through, and to make sure that block is visible form far away. Branches and mattresses plus unidentifiable angry mob - certain death.

This is upsetting to me too. I hate the fact that these people got hurt. I attend protests and demonstrations for numerous causes I believe in as well; I believe in democracy and freedom of speech/expression. However, this protest was just done ALL WRONG. Luckily, NOBODY was killed in this incident. But those people wrapped in white linens did not even look like people to me so I wouldn't put too much blame on the bus driver/car. Nobody should protest in such a manner on the HIGHWAY - EVER.

I want to make one thing clear - I do not condone nor find any joy in the fact that these protesters were put in harms way. But, many of you need to look at the footage in detail. Look on the other side of the highway and see how fast the cars are going in the opposite direction - YES, THIS IS A HIGHWAY. The bus driver was doing his job - which was to transport people from point A to point B. I think the way this protest was handled was just pure stupididty. There's a difference between being illiterate and being stupid. You can be illiterate because of lack of education; but to be stupid is to lack common sense. Danger = playing in the highway.

You can see that there are protesters slapping cars with their hands to go back with one man even shooing cars away with a white piece of cloth. You brought up a great point; yes, they are human. No, it's absolutely fine to protest. Freedom of speech and expression is important. But there's a time, place, and method in which to effectively and intelligently protest. Whatever the cause of this protest was, it was done really foolishly. Unless you are submissive by nature, I don't see how these protesters were expecting travelers and commuters to just sit back and relax while they blocked the road on a highway. I'm sorry, but these people were ASKING to be run over. If you watch the video, clearly, the cars and bus are honking at them to get out of the way - WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE because it is a HIGHWAY! I think it's unfortunate that four people were run over, however, the protesters should be held liable as well. The highway does not belong to the people - it isn't something that you can close down for your personal purpose - whether it be political, personal, etc. What did these protesters expect?! Did they honestly, seriously think that people would just stop their cars and sit still all day when people have places to go (work, home, run errands, etc). Think smart and safe.
