  • If anyone wants to see the point when the old jazz-funk scene turned into the Acid House scene in 1988 look for "Prestatyn 1988" on youtube and you'll see some real historical footage. Some of the earliest (large scale) rave footage I've seen plus lots of Chris Hill and the more traditional funk side of the weekender.Well worth a look.

  • first!

  • first soul weekender was Caister in April 79

  • love it...

  • Its Caister now - but never for get your roots!!

  • real

  • i used to love it down there, one of my favorite haunts, back in the day

  • I never went to the Goldmine but I bought the 'Glitter system ' P.A.' speakers for my band 'TRI-60' from Ilford and they used them at their gis for a few years before I sold them on for better gear. It was interesting to see them on stage in some of this footage.

    Roy Tyzack

  • Ahhhh those were the days. Estuary Ale and Canvey Bitter on tap... had to water it down with Light Ale it was so rank!!! Best place ever though

  • goldmine..yep i was there top club.

  • The response below was to the comment from "SoulCrackers 1979".

  • Whats the tune at 0.58 onwards please?

  • Sugar Pie Guy by the Joneses

  • It's not The Joneses. It's The Controllers "I Can't Turn This Boogie Loose." (1979)

  • i live just around the corner from that shit hole lol

  • anyone got anymore footage of caister early eighties or the club scene?

  • all seem to forgot that not many people had video recorder in high of royalty and casters period so we all had rely on tv or external resources to record the period it real shame because club history of period was real family affair

  • I agree with what you say. Shame we cannot turn the clock back for a second chance with a video camera.

  • yes those were the days saturday night had to be the mine.

  • do you no wot year it closed

  • chris hill is my grandad

  • this is where is all started. Tho i never went here, a year later ('84) at the Bognor Soul weekender, then Barry Island, Prestayn and on and on, soul, acid jazz, funk, and then into the acid house of the 90's. Chris Hill IS a legend. Met him at a small doo at Sheffield Park, just outside Brighton....back in the day!

  • The Sheffield Arms "Hillies" night I believe?

Glad you like it, it's a pity I haven't found any Lacy Lady club footage so far, I'll keep 'searching'...now, that's a tune!

  • from what i remember they were kind of all dayers, on a sunday?

  • Friday nights featured Pete Tong, Jeff Young or Bob Jones. Saturday night the club became 'Hillies'...however, the vast amount of punters had to travel from London, so the hastle of getting down into the 'Forest' became too much of an obstacle, a great underground club though! And yes, they had some rather splendid All Dayers, summer tea/BBQ parties no less!

  • blimey, the memories are flooding back! went to many an all dayer-weekender where meesrs Tong, Young,Vincent,Hill, Fung,Holloway,Westwood et al were spinning the discs! back in the day or wot!!Some of the venues i remember (vaguely!) were Doo at the Zoo (Regents Park) went to one at Chelsea FC, one at Brightons Aquarium, one at a club in Dartford, and many many more besides...

  • What about the 'doo' in the Cave! Chislehurst Caves ;-)

  • @bojangles1310

Anyone know what happened to Trevor Fung? I used to go to school with him ???

  • @costco5626 He did a lot of Acid House parties in 1988/89 then I heard he was mostly djing abroad.

  • NOW LOOK SEE REF WHAT USED TO BE ....Trading Boundaries are importers of Indian furniture & artifacts, and have a licenced bar serving drinks and light meals as well. They are located just north of Sheffield Park on the A275, in what used to be the Sheffield Arms coaching inn

  • @bojangles1310 Bognor started in 1986 didn't it (possibly 1985) it was still definitely just Caister in 1984. And Acid House was 1988/89 not early 90s.Sorry if I'm being a bit pedantic.

  • @LondonAcidHouse1988 possibly, memory fades now, coulda sworn it was 84, with Geno Washington as headline act? maybe it was 85,86, pulled a cracker there n all... :)

  • @bojangles1310 That was the one Kleeer played live too - i just knew it was definitely April 1986 because I recorded some tapes off the radio there which I played until they broke and which I wrote Bognor 1986 in big letters on them.Sounds like you had a good one with the ladies - more then I did myself - now Caister 1983/84 that was different!

  • Classic footage!

    OUTSTANDING ! ;-)

  • At last some footage of the BEST club of all time...!

  • its an old peoples home now

  • wow....look at Chris Hill!! I guess I've met a legend!!!

  • The Goldmine: PART ONE of Three videos! Apologies for the slight out of sync audio...YouTube loading tools...Grrr.

Enjoy, PM if you want a copy (UK only).

  • Genius...

  • wicked!!

  • enjoyed watching this, great stuff.thanks for posting it on here.

  • Hello. If you know of anyway I, or perhaps even you? Could get the audio and video in sync...Please let me know. The footage is a DVD copy taken from an original VHS of the TV programme 'The Tube'. The original VHS & DVD copy audio and video sync is fine, however, when you transfer to YouTube the audio skips out of sync?

If you're a sort of person who would like to help get this very rare, and classic bit of footage on YouTube? Email me.
