been researching the pathfinder on here as i have an 06 aventura, i've entered in showroom trials in december at yarwell. watching this has given me the boost of confidence i needed.. me n my pathy will be fine.. i will post the vid next week (if i manae to get 1) ( ya gotta love mudding)
i feel like the older pathfinders have more power and traction when it comes to offroading...i have a 97 nissan pathfinder and that thing runs like a champ in water, mud and snow all year round. mine might be mostly stock but it can give you a run for your money...check my videos out and tell me what you think
what gets me is that every car review says you should buy a land rover discovery instead of one of these. Why!? £10,000+ more for less kit, crap build quality and it is no better off road
@TheBoyArchitect, it is true that Land Rovers aren't the most reliable vehicles, but they are among the best vehicles you can buy for offroad driving.
I thought the Pathfinder had open differentials and therefore wasn't so good in mud or snow or offroad in general. I drive a 4Runner...is the Pathfinder 4wd system as good as the one on my vehicle? Can the Pathfinder hang with a 4Runner in mud? Serious question, not trying to start a flame war or anything...
I own a 05 Pathy and the 4wd system is the same as your's and as everyone else's for that matter. It's an electronicly controlled limited slip diff on the front and rear (like a reverse ABS). Some Nissans offer a NISMO off road that has an electric locking diffs that would be great for hevy use... but all of these systems are fine for occasional O.R. use. And the only thing about "hanging" comes from horse power and torque.... that the Pathfinder has more of :-)
@salem240, no it is definitely not the same as the 4wd system in my 4Runner. I have ATRAC on the front and rear axles, not limited slip. They are open differentials that have power distributed from side to side by the ATRAC system. The vehicle can send 100% of the power to either the left or right side. More importantly, my 4Runner comes with a locking center differential which will split power equally to front and rear axles. My rear axle is also a solid axle. Is yours? Just wondering...
@TheBoyArchitect, a solid axle is much better for offroad driving then an independent rear suspension. It's also stronger and better for towing. This is pretty much common knowledge. A solid axle is not better for on-road comfort though...
@EvenSteven2004 The ATRAC system is the same concept as any other manufacturers system. It uses the brakes (via the ABS) to control the distribution of power. The Pathfinder has a fully locked center diff (ecept LE model that's AWD). And, NO, the independent setup has more articulation in stock form with sway bars disconnected than the live axle setup on the 4runner. Plus the independent setup allows for more ground clearance by placing the diff case higher than the outer hubs, Think Hummer H1.
@salem240, what year(s) did the Pathfinder come with a locking center differential? I asked a guy at work who owns a Pathfinder, and he didn't know. All he knows is that his can't be driven on dry pavement while in 4wd, so he definitely does not have a center diff. Also, I disagree with your assessment of IRS verses solid axle. Even if the diff case is higher, you have to keep in mind that IRS uses lower control arms on both sides that will always be lower to the ground than a solid axle.
@salem240, 4Runners have coil springs, not leaf springs. In fact, I don't believe 4Runners have ever had leaf springs. But I know for a fact that as far back as the 90s that every 4Runner made had coil springs.
@EvenSteven2004 I've never paid that much attention that they had coils in the rear or not... I just new that it was a live axle. And if the old live axle is so great why are the 2010 4runners equipped with an IRS?
@salem240, the new 2010 4Runners are NOT equipped with IRS. They are still live rear axle, just like their predecessors. The 4Runner is one of the only SUVs remaining to offer live rear axle and body-on-frame construction. One of the last true SUVs in a world of SUVs that are headed more toward crossover 'utes.
@EvenSteven2004 Hmm.... MSN autos is wrong and so is Toyotas website, because they're both saying that it's a 4 link independent rear suspension. For now the Pathfinder is body on frame, you're right.... I hope they dont change it back to unibody.... it SUCKS for towing & offroad.
@salem240, I can see MSN being wrong, but Toyota's website is wrong? Wow, that's strange. I can assure you that the new 2010 4Runner does not have IRS on any trim line. They are all live rear axle and I hope it stays that way. I don't know how much longer to expect Toyota to keep body-on-frame construction and live axle rear on a midsize SUV platform. The 2010 4Runner is all new this year, so I would think it will be around for at least another 6 or 7 years in its current configuration.
Whats the weakpoints in the towing just curious. Im plan only towing 1,200 LBS max (ATV w/Trailer) . I think this motor is very powerful still for a V6 .
Mine is 06' SE 4wd with the Nissan hitch that sits so damn high.got a 5 1/4' drop hitch and I still need another 3' down to level my trailer so its not tilted upwards some .
@2dazed you wont even know 1200 lbs is even on there. I often tow 4000 lbs with mine and have had no problems so far. The most I've had hooked to it was just shy of 6000 lbs. and pulling it was no problem, just stoping was. Anything over 3000 lbs. you should have trailer brakes and some AirLift bags in the rear suspension to help support tounge weight and level the ride.
This is what i call real hardcore offroading its great send comments to me which one do you think is good for offroading the Nissan Armada or the Nissan Pathfinder?
There is no 4runner anymore in my country....The dealer replaced it by the Fortuner (piece of shit). I might buy a Pathfinder, main simple reason, IT IS DIESEL!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if you are serious about off road you get a damn pickup with a v8 and locking diffs thats actually made for it. no british shit stack can go through mud or rocks like an f150. somebody tell me one instance where a land rover would outdo an F150 FX4.
This is Japanese vehicle which is actually made in Barcelona, Spain. Most Pickups do not have Independant suspension in the rear and so would get stuck in a hole like the one in the video. this would also reduce their climbing angle. Pickups are designed to handle heavier loads not out-perform their 4x4 counterparts. Also a V8 would be dificult to manoeuvre in very wet conditions.
What? that makes no sense man first of all of course it doesnt have independent rear suspension i drive an f150 and that has nothing to do with their climbing angle. a big v8 keeps big tires spinning fast which EXACTLY what you want to get through a mudhole. and i was talking about land rovers in response to pegjh on the comments below. not saying nissan is british. a v8 is actually easier to manuever in wet conditions with plenty of weight in the front tires and great traction in 4 wheel drive.
@Cmacd wait a minute buddy youve got it all backwards live axle 4x4 out perform trucks with independent suspension every time. I know this because I own a truck with IFS. Coil sprung live axle fourbys simply have more flex enabling them to keep rubber on the ground thats all there is to it. For example the hummer has independent suspension yet a GU patrol will out perform it hands down as far as uneven and muddy terrain is concerned. The pathf is also elec switch 4x4 a very problematic system
Every were, f150s have big v8s that dont anything but make loud noises and use ur fuel there deisnged in the total wrong way but wot u expect from america
broommad f150s are designed with big torquey powerful v8s so they can haul things and tow stuff which is what they are made to do. there is no other way to do that except power which necesitates a v8 which sacrifices gas mileage for things like towing. how else would you design something to tow and haul heavy shit? the f150 is the best selling motor vehicle in the WORLD. that is a fact. so america must be doing somerthing right you fucktard
research your facts thats total bulshit if ever i heard any the f150 dosent sell shit compared to most manufacturers and in the world? this just proves ur talkin shit in england you cant buy an f150 and 3 litre diseal engines are just as capable at towing as a big v8
hmmm let me see... everywhere! you dumb rednecks and your penis extension V8´s. Ford is out of the page when it comes to offroading, yet it is a great workhorse. Off roading Land Rover, Jeep and Yotas, you gotta carry a load of cement, THEN get an F-150. NOT TO GO GET ITS HEAVY V8 ASS STUCK SOMEWHERE.
@macschweppe63 any Range Rover would rape your hillbilly pick up.
No offence ... but those things arent made for offroad. The wheelbase of the pickup is to big to be of any use when climbing rocks or through some serious water.
The LRs have adjustable independent air suspension , locking diffs and some serious attack angles.
Only american machines that can fuck with LR are the Willys , the Grand Cherokee and The Hummer H1
@oldirtybastard213 - in your foreign ignorance you have left out the Jeep wrangler one of which I own along with a short wheelbase two door F150. Notice how there are no rocks in this video and I dont give a damn about rocks. My truck has a dana 60 in the back what other stock 4x4 has that kind of equipment besides a pickup?
@macschweppe63 4 wheelin isn't just about muddin'. Rednecks everywhere are running through mud holes and water with lots of momentum, big tires, and various 4WD systems. Plowing through mud and water hasn't required thoughtful engineering and balance. Over extreme terrain you start to see select stock SUV's leave behind other vehicles without serious modifications. Rocks and steep uneven climbs aren't all conquered with only momentum, horsepower, and a dana 60. Look up Unimog, Pinzgauer, etc..
@oldirtybastard213 and you say range rover - as in pimp daddys range rover? or a range rover sport with 3 inches of ground clearance? try taking that over your rocks with out scratching that candy paint. dont even think your air suspension will help with that
@oldirtybastard213 by the way willys quit making cars 40 years ago and their 4x4s were under the jeep name. i wish i had enough space on this comment to really enlighten you but that is not the case so i will hope you just dont get stuck when your pirelli p-zeros you got on a range rover start spinning and cant get you out of a little mud
@macschweppe63 I'm sorry.. when I said Willy I was obviously trying to say wrangler ... wich is the commercial succesor of the army Willy ... isnt it ?
So dont get your pussy all wet
And since I'm a foreign ignorant... Im pretty sure the Us is the only country in the world where people put candy paint and 24" rims on there cars..
RR sport /watch?v=4U-yFmnu0sY
look for yourself.. I'm pretty sure your F150 cant do this
@macschweppe63 The real test is a stock F150 vs. a stock Range Rover or Land Rover. Stock, no other vehicles are as capable as the British Land Rover/Range Rover. Stupid hillbilly.
@SamTheSuave why cant you friken leave either a nice comment or none at all...the whole comment thing isn't to critisize people...and no hilibily is stupid. At least we arent ass holes looking to find something bad everywheere we go like you.
@macschweppe63 Moab. Oh yeah, and before you argue, look up range rovers and land rovers in moab. Oh yeah and pretty much every narrow steep forest logging trail where an F150 can't even make the turns.
@macschweppe63 u want a place where a land rover would outdo "a" f150, how about on the road, climbing rocks, in the mud, up a hill. this is all just for starters. pickups are not meant to go off road they meant to haul ass unless its a f150 raptor which in that case a landy would still do better on messy off roading while the f150 would do better on flat dirt land.
@macschweppe63 lol dude f150 dont have locking diffs. the only trucks that come stock with locking diffs are dodge power wagons(New model, not old) and chevys and gmcs. dont get me wrong im a truck guy but just give this guy some respective. He went alot of places f150s cant go. so chill
@racehonda9 The F-150 actually can come from the factory with locking diffs on the 09 and up models. Before that an LSD was offered on some models and standard on FX4s
@racehonda9 Id take a locker over an LSD. The Chevy lockers are no good because they dont engage unless you are really on it. Ford is an on demand system all you do is push a button.
My Jeep would kill your land rover but your land rover probaly isn't running stock. Yeah land rovers are good for off road but now there just making them fancy and shit
pegjh, if ur serious about off roading go buy a cheap jeep and some lockers. Then again I would love to watch you stuff your fancy little disco into a big rock. It makes it really entertaining to watch a doofus completely wreck an expensive wheels.
People the only thing that hampers this things wheel articulation is the sway bar!! just 7 minutes is all you need to remove it when rock crawlin..Just put it back when your done!!And for those who say these are mall cruisers, f**k you!!! dont know shit bout what ur talkin!!
and you would know the new ones are trash because?? I own one of these, true they mite not have the same articulation as the old solid axle, but just 7 minutes is all you need to remove the sway bar and your set..Ive taken this on many desert trips with alot of hard dune bashing..The older ones dont have a chance..so dont talk crap till you've even driven one off road..Ohh n btw everythings still stock, minus the sway for rock crawlin only..
I got beat for a weak ass vehicle!! And where u from there boii?? ok now leme tell you how this gonna go down, im gonna say,From the way u replied can see you dont know shit..then u gonna come back saying " i do alot off roading so i know wut im talkin bout", then im gonna say f**k off, Dont talk unless you've driven one..so lets jut leave it at that aight..
I used to LOVE Pathfinders when I was younger in the 90's. It was the SUV I wanted! But I dont like these models.. too long, bulky and overweight looking like a Durango. They gave into demographic data instead of listening to the hardcore fans. They aren't sporty and cool like the earlier models.
But I don't care..Im more than happy with my 4x4 (2004Jeep Grand Cherokee)It has way more wheel articulation than this thing.lol!
These new pathfinders are nothing but tall station wagons with 4 wheel drive... not a true 4x4 like the first generation of pathfinedrs were...I've had 3 of them suckers and i still drive one.. over 400 000 km on it... built like a tank... new ones, nah man not so much... zero ground clearance and I hear you gotta pay nissan now to get skid plates? what sort of bullshit is that? true 4x4 should COME with skidplates or else its a station wagon... not to mention Good ground clearance.
I have an LE with everthing that Pathfinder is everthing plus more. I can do things only a Diesel can do. I've hit step inclines. 4 Wheel LO the pathfinder just claws the earth. I like it plus it has Nav and DVD. Too bad I cant get a gun turrent on it but for what its worth its a well made truck.
id like to see your ford corner like a pathfinder i would like to see whats its stable top speed is and whats your mpg,and another thing when you go down the street in a ford people say ' o look a ford must be a red neck driving it' and when people see the pathfinder they think 'o look a pathfinder they must make good money'
you dumb ass i'd like to see that!! stupid american dont know shit, your fkn ford is a piece of crap!! dont compare the abilities of a good 4wd with ur shit..ford yeh..i like ford but dont make silly remarks like that when you dont know shit
i got a nissan pathfinder (2000 i think) which i am tryin to rebuild coz my bro took it out wen it was his and handbraked sideways in to a creek but for the time it worked it was a good car. they can take alot of punishment
See, splash guards works. Compare the red Pathfinder (00:30) to the Silver Pathfinder with splash guards(00:34), less mud on the side of the body. But is that a good thing or a bad thing?
the new pathfinder look awesome, it's bigger than the xterra. I like the X more, but i think the pathfinder should have a rear locker option like the titan, frontier and xterra have, it would make it pretty awesome.
Great footage of PF's off-roading. I have an '06 U.S. model...270hp v6, black/black leather...this is the best SUV I've ever had. I'm aware that Europe has diesel models...around 170hp, if I'm correct...not sure though. Either way if it's a Pathfinder in the States, Europe, anywhere for that matter, it's a solid and reliable truck.
I might be a girl - but I know how to drive my Pathfinder OFF ROAD EDITION.. 1st 3 things I did after I got it (NEW)... 1. got GOOD TIRES (Bridgestone REVO). 2. Took the stupid running boards off. 3. TOOK IT TO THE DUNES! - Check my vids for CHICKS who off road! GREAT VIDEO U GOT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife, by accident, made 180deg spin with my '06 Pathfinder while driving at the speed of 120kmh on a narrow highway trying to avoid collission with another car but didn't roll over...amazing. Now, can any of your American cars do that?
Are you joking? The commander is a toaster compared to this. I've seen one offroad, it blows. I saw one get stuck the entire video, and dont forget these are stock? That's a pretty good water forde for being stock. Just wait until the 5.6 gets put in this, it will be sex.
Oh, btw, why dont you show us all your movies of all the offroad expierence you gathered with your grand cherokee? And the part where you turn circles around other 'foreign' crap.
You can all suck my balls. The best offroader is a helicopter

LambOfGuad 8 months ago
Every were, f150s have big v8s that dont anything but make loud noises and use ur fuel there deisnged in the total wrong way but wot u expect from america
broommad 3 years ago
broommad f150s are designed with big torquey powerful v8s so they can haul things and tow stuff which is what they are made to do. there is no other way to do that except power which necesitates a v8 which sacrifices gas mileage for things like towing. how else would you design something to tow and haul heavy shit? the f150 is the best selling motor vehicle in the WORLD. that is a fact. so america must be doing somerthing right you fucktard
macschweppe63 3 years ago
research your facts thats total bulshit if ever i heard any the f150 dosent sell shit compared to most manufacturers and in the world? this just proves ur talkin shit in england you cant buy an f150 and 3 litre diseal engines are just as capable at towing as a big v8
broommad 3 years ago
you got that right! a ford f-150... what an idiot
Ramon25D 2 years ago
Ha ha ha how many f-150's do see driving around Africa tosser. Its all YOTA's and Series Landies!!
pondscumley 3 years ago
hmmm let me see... everywhere! you dumb rednecks and your penis extension V8´s.
Ramon25D 2 years ago
first of all nissan is japanese... and suvs are trucks...and a land rover would outdo a F150 on...well on the land! :)
64bitgfx 1 year ago
@macschweppe63 any Range Rover would rape your hillbilly pick up.
No offence ... but those things arent made for offroad. The wheelbase of the pickup is to big to be of any use when climbing rocks or through some serious water.
The LRs have adjustable independent air suspension , locking diffs and some serious attack angles.
Only american machines that can fuck with LR are the Willys , the Grand Cherokee and The Hummer H1
oldirtybastard213 1 year ago
@oldirtybastard213 - in your foreign ignorance you have left out the Jeep wrangler one of which I own along with a short wheelbase two door F150. Notice how there are no rocks in this video and I dont give a damn about rocks. My truck has a dana 60 in the back what other stock 4x4 has that kind of equipment besides a pickup?
macschweppe63 1 year ago
@macschweppe63 HAHAHAHAHA! An American talking about 'foreign ignorance'! Made my day, thanks! xD
SamTheSuave 1 year ago
@macschweppe63 4 wheelin isn't just about muddin'. Rednecks everywhere are running through mud holes and water with lots of momentum, big tires, and various 4WD systems. Plowing through mud and water hasn't required thoughtful engineering and balance. Over extreme terrain you start to see select stock SUV's leave behind other vehicles without serious modifications. Rocks and steep uneven climbs aren't all conquered with only momentum, horsepower, and a dana 60. Look up Unimog, Pinzgauer, etc..
abbeykroeter 1 year ago
@oldirtybastard213 and you say range rover - as in pimp daddys range rover? or a range rover sport with 3 inches of ground clearance? try taking that over your rocks with out scratching that candy paint. dont even think your air suspension will help with that
macschweppe63 1 year ago
@oldirtybastard213 by the way willys quit making cars 40 years ago and their 4x4s were under the jeep name. i wish i had enough space on this comment to really enlighten you but that is not the case so i will hope you just dont get stuck when your pirelli p-zeros you got on a range rover start spinning and cant get you out of a little mud
macschweppe63 1 year ago
@macschweppe63 I'm sorry.. when I said Willy I was obviously trying to say wrangler ... wich is the commercial succesor of the army Willy ... isnt it ?
So dont get your pussy all wet
And since I'm a foreign ignorant... Im pretty sure the Us is the only country in the world where people put candy paint and 24" rims on there cars..
RR sport /watch?v=4U-yFmnu0sY

@macschweppe63 The real test is a stock F150 vs. a stock Range Rover or Land Rover. Stock, no other vehicles are as capable as the British Land Rover/Range Rover. Stupid hillbilly.

@SamTheSuave i like were your headed but i think a real true and proper test would be the rangie vs. a mercedes g class

lol ... you're retarded... Pick-ups are not made for offroading.
I've seen Range Rover Sports climb 45 degree rocks and I've seen the same RR enter high angle turns at high speeds .
RR, Cayenne ,Touareg , Toyota Land Cruiser , Pathfinder >> any american suv (except the Hummer H1 and Wrangler)

@macschweppe63 many, but tell me when an 88 stock f150could out do my 4runner. But I agree, nissans are shit.
Motorfordtoyota 1 year ago
@macschweppe63 Moab. Oh yeah, and before you argue, look up range rovers and land rovers in moab. Oh yeah and pretty much every narrow steep forest logging trail where an F150 can't even make the turns.
abbeykroeter 1 year ago
@macschweppe63 u want a place where a land rover would outdo "a" f150, how about on the road, climbing rocks, in the mud, up a hill. this is all just for starters. pickups are not meant to go off road they meant to haul ass unless its a f150 raptor which in that case a landy would still do better on messy off roading while the f150 would do better on flat dirt land.
sainteustatious 9 months ago
@macschweppe63 hahahah straight up
Thelbcgroob 8 months ago
@macschweppe63 lol dude f150 dont have locking diffs. the only trucks that come stock with locking diffs are dodge power wagons(New model, not old) and chevys and gmcs. dont get me wrong im a truck guy but just give this guy some respective. He went alot of places f150s cant go. so chill
racehonda9 7 months ago
@racehonda9 The F-150 actually can come from the factory with locking diffs on the 09 and up models. Before that an LSD was offered on some models and standard on FX4s
yellowcow13 7 months ago
@yellowcow13 but a limited slip does really do shit compared to a locked diff.
racehonda9 7 months ago
@racehonda9 Id take a locker over an LSD. The Chevy lockers are no good because they dont engage unless you are really on it. Ford is an on demand system all you do is push a button.

It wouldn't get near my LR3 / Land Rover Discovery 3. If you're serious about off roading - it has to be Land Rover.

pegjh, if ur serious about off roading go buy a cheap jeep and some lockers. Then again I would love to watch you stuff your fancy little disco into a big rock. It makes it really entertaining to watch a doofus completely wreck an expensive wheels.

People the only thing that hampers this things wheel articulation is the sway bar!! just 7 minutes is all you need to remove it when rock crawlin..Just put it back when your done!!And for those who say these are mall cruisers, f**k you!!! dont know shit bout what ur talkin!!

papillon3000us 3 years ago 2
and you would know the new ones are trash because?? I own one of these, true they mite not have the same articulation as the old solid axle, but just 7 minutes is all you need to remove the sway bar and your set..Ive taken this on many desert trips with alot of hard dune bashing..The older ones dont have a chance..so dont talk crap till you've even driven one off road..Ohh n btw everythings still stock, minus the sway for rock crawlin only..

See, splash guards works. Compare the red Pathfinder (00:30) to the Silver Pathfinder with splash guards(00:34), less mud on the side of the body. But is that a good thing or a bad thing?
2006DURAMAX 4 years ago
the new pathfinder look awesome, it's bigger than the xterra.
