@Zellig It's called irrational phobias, lol. We know they can't harm us, but they still scare the shit out of us. I have entomophobia, especially of centipedes. Euuughh *shudder*
@Zellig In case you were asking "then why are you watching this if you have a fear of house centipedes?" I have no fucking idea. I watch the weirdest shit on the internet.
I just killed a really quick one on my bed. There shouldn't be anything about these things that worries me but they're fucking creepy as shit to look at, and way too fast.
I'm actually looking around my room, now... *shudder*. I guess I'm watching these videos to see if I actually have a legit fear and I'm already getting chills.
I was like everybody else. I would leap from whatever I was doing to compulsively kill any house centipede that came into view. I decided to study them to get over my fear. I needed to find something I could relate to on this alien species. As seen in this video, they have fairly cute grasshopper-like heads; they have a bit of personality. Then, once I learned they they're spider hunters, I've mostly let them go when I see them. "Go on, my many-legged friend," I call. "Hunt well!"
i just fed one of these to my praying mants.... mantis won that battle :) and mister SON OF A FUCKING MOTHER SUCKING CUNT FACE (centipede) is dead and about half gone :3

@chefo18 i have those awful creatures in my house. just awful looking and yes- they can run around fast as hell. i get chills just thinking about those awful things!
I hate these things! I have no problem with other "bugs", but these things freak me out! I'd rather have a snake infestation any day. Every time I see these, i try to kill the suckers. I went into the restroom a bit ago and looked in the mirror and there was a HUGE one on the wall behind me when I turned the light on.... I was like..."seriously dude?!" then I sprayed it until it died.
I just spent 30 being chased by this thing. And the whole time i was jumping furniture i was trying to protect my dog, thinking it was poisonous. When my dog could have killed it. Gahhh i just hope its family doesnt come to avenge it @-@
ok so i saw a big one today then it ran away and i was about to sleep and i randomly opened my eyes and looked at the wall and there was another one and now i cant sleep
I just killed one.. f**cker was hanging out on my wall like its invisible or something. I smashed it with a flip flop. I just hate them with a vengeance. I especially hate the 100mile an hour dash across the floor. ugghhhhhh...
good video. I wonder what asshole introduced these to North America? I prefer spiders. One of these got on my chest once while I was sleeping, I felt a tickling, went to brush it off and it bit me! They are nasty and very fast and sneaky
Random1598 -- seriously!! why do they even bother -- is falling on people a sport for them? and they make the most hideous sound when they land. good god in heaven, whose idea was it to inflict these things upon mankind? they're from the 9th ring of hell.
Baby house centipede - easy to catch....lemme guess....you're a 20 something male...my ex used to do shit like this, and as much as I freak out over the creatures - this ain't cool.
Spiders just mind their own business around the house and I ignore them. But these nasty motherfuckers blaze around my house like bullets and are nasty as hell. Damn, I don't mind other insects, but these bitches are horrendous, and why the hell do they climb ceilings when they can't even hold their grip? I don't want some 50 legged assholes falling into my hair. That actually happened the other day :/
I killed about 20 of those lil mother fuckers in my life time, in my basement, luckily i got a 4 legged furry feline who loves to chow down on house centipedes, havnt seen 1 in, theyre soooooooo easy to kill though like they have weak limbs and appendages.
@PDRband I get paranoid and I start looking around my room. Ah, fuck, why did I have to check messages at 3 in the morning. I have to use the bathroom and I have to check the room, now.
then it fell to the floor, then stayed their for a while i was standing right there, it was almost like the centipede was saying, 'come on bitch, is that all you got. your a coward, SPRAY ME BITCH!' then i sprayed it again then it started walking then it stopped, in the legs started coming off, that was sick and disturbing. ( I USED RAID )
i guess i killed a retarded ass centipede, because i went to go get my shoe from upstairs. when i came back it was still in the same spot, i decided not to kill it with my shoe because...... will that plain out disgusting, so i got bug spray, i was spray from a distance because i knew it would fall.. i got it a lil but not enough, then it started to move but then it stopped and turn straight back in the same spot then i spray it again on the spot
thats soooo disgusting, im literally disgusted at you.... ok so u let them crawl around in your bed frames kill bedbugs, (which bedbugs are disgusting also) i'm sry but i rather have 10,000,000,000,000,00 bedbugs in my bed then to have centipedes
A house centipede has no reason to crawl on you in the first place. It hangs out at night, waiting to catch and kill actual pests. Meanwhile, those bed bugs have one purpose in life, that being to drink your blood. I actually saw a centipede in the bathroom no more than 10 minutes ago. Rather than kill I it, I thought I would let it have a go at the new ant colony that sprung up on my windowsill, or possibly any remaining bed bugs around from my recent war with them.
@920tyler haha you've clearly never had bed bugs. -shrug- as long as it doesnt bite or carry a disease i truley see no reason to be frightened of an itty bitty bug. haha but maybe im just mad with blind courage.
house centipedes are actually extremely beneficial. they eat almost every pest (wish they didnt like spiders). i love that i can trust my centipedes to keep bedbugs away <3
@chickensinthemist Im actually one of the many few persons whose not an arachnophobic and who doesnt have a panic attack over spiders. But i wanna get a Scorpion so bad.
Holy shit I just had one going around my room and made me jump up like I was on fire. I killed it with a basket ball. Sue my ass I don't care I shit bricks when I see these things.
use raid it's like acid to them!!!! oh and this one looks small the biggest one iv'e seen was in a apartment i lived in infested with roaches. Horrible experience......
My main question here is, how likely are they to crawl into your mouth or ear while sleeping? Just saw one scurry behind my bed and decided to go sleep in the living room instead O.o
@Desolatorx2 i dont blame you... i toss and turn and lose sleep over these things... iv had nightmares about hundreds of these attacking me in my bed and waking me up
The house centipede is BADASS. Most people don't know about them, but if you live in the right location, you can't miss them. When attempting to kill one of these little buggers, make sure you get them on the first shot, because you will have no second attempt. Fast is not the word! I started out hating them, but now after doing some research on them I have a weird kind of respect for them.
I hated house centipedes when I first moved in here. But once you get used to their wind-sprints across the basement floor, they're sort of cute in way. Just don't pick them up, they shed legs like crazy.
how did you catch them? Every time I try, I always harm them in some way or another, did you like coax them into a jar or something? Cause the Canadian breed seem to have a mild psychic ability. Whenever I spot one and leave to get something to catch one in, upon return, they're gone.
@davidfreilich its not hard to catch them if they are in ur bathtub. Ill occasionally find on in my bathtub and they cant get out, so its easy to get them.
@hotcuzimfly0 yeah, but the odds of finding one in the bathtub is one in a thousand at least, unless I camp out next to the tub for a weekend, the likelihood is just ridiculous. It's like the times you're hunting these gross hairy legged tampon-stained-brown spawnling from hell, they're never to be seen, whereas, when you're completely unaware, they scurry around behind your back like a ninja house mouse, mocking your frustration. Demon seeds.
the house centipede is one of the most harmless insects in the home to humans, ever. so everyones freaked out over a harmless, scary looking creature. nonetheless, they are beneficial... unfortunately, i tried killing some roaches with Raid just now, and a centipede crawled across the poison. No more centipede.
The first time i ever saw one was on my carpet and i thought it was a hairball until i walked over to it and it took off at 50mph and i didnt know what the hell it was. I cried for a week.
Just killed one. I hate these fucking things. I've had nightmares about them. I never saw one until I moved to Boston. Now I've seen them in every apartment I've lived in. Horrifying. Give me a spider any day. At least they hang out in the corner and don't cruise around at 60 mph.
@mcadarette I used to think my biggest fear was spiders. Nooo. Just imagining these things makes me paranoid. When I'm in the bathroom, and the thought of them pops in my head, I check the toilet papers, the towels, the floors, etc. Actually, I'm getting paranoid already. And the worst is how they run. We have them here in Oregon, too. And your comment on them running 60 mph freaked me out even more- please tell me that's an exaggeration D:
@Zellig What. The. Fuck O_e... You're actually scaring me, lol.1.3 ft/s (wikipedia, haha) is still pretty damn fast. Euuughhh, these pictures are creeping me out. Especially the thumbnail on the side that says "There's a house centipede in my room"
@Zellig Why didn't you message me earlier?! It's 3 in the morning and I'm really paranoid right now! I'm imagining on scurrying up my bad so fast that I would nearly piss myself because 1. I would be scared shitless and 2. I have to use the bathroom.
@chibigrunt they really are fast, but they're not in your house to visit you, they are there to eat other pests, and they won't ever bother you unless you step on one by accident. These things can live past 5 years old, so in some people's cases they might have been living there before the human owners. I had one in my place, freaked out the first time I saw it, read about it, and 2 years later found it dead. Within 3 months, another moved in. You tend to only have one of these at a time.
OMG I HATE CENTIPEDES SO MUCH IF I SEE ONE IN MY HOUSE ILL POUR GASOLINE ALL OVER THE HOUSE AND THROW A MATCH IN THE HOUSE AND RUN AWAY AND NEVER LOOK BACK
@suresh416438 I CMPLETELY AGREE!!!!!! GET A SCALPEL, CUT THEM INTO 6000 PIECES AND SHIP EACH PIECE TO A DIFFERENT GALAXIE TO BE CUT INTO EVEN SMALLER PIECES!!! YARRRRRRRR! DEATH TO CENTIPEDES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@suresh416438 they are EVERYWHERE where i live... so many in my basement and the ocasional ones in my fucking bathroom... im terrified of them ... kentucky is loaded with them... i just saw the biggest one iv ever seen about 10 minutes ago in my yard.... thats why im looking at this video
@suresh416438 I have one in my room... dead under a book. I don't know how long it's been there because I'm to freaked out to look at it, even when it's dead.
I would try taking the fight up a notch by finding something with armor maybe. Possibly put a few ants in there. Something like that because everything seems to be a first contact kill.
i have never seen these things inside a house and i have never seen them outside. the only place i have ever seen them is inside schools. those things scare me so much that i will run if i see one near me
I know what I would do here. I would put my butthole up to that jar and spray some hot, nasty DIARRHEA on top of those insects. Then we will see who is the true survivor. I would bet on the spider. :-) Eat my shit.
Why couldnt they have 4 or 3 pairs of legs like the rest of them, then I would appreciate them more as a predator. Those large no of legs are too freaky to get used to.
@argoby but can inflict a minor but potentially painful bite in a human =)
However would require someone being foolish or naive such as attempting to hold a larger one between the fingers. Considering how fast they are and repulsive to most people, a very unlikely situation. Despite being invasive to most areas, they appear to be more beneficial at least in the home environment than not. "He carries no diseases. In effect, he is your own personal full-time cockroach cop." Bundle Brent
My cat used to love goin' after em but after awhile I noticed that he wouldn't eat them after he killed them. The last few times he did, he gagged like it was a really bad taste or something.
@argoby i hate house centipedes one night i seen one at my dad's he thought i was seeing things but he saw it they get in his apartment all tthe time.
one time I was outside in my backyard and my Tarantula was in the grass because I was watching it and this huge ass centipede starting attacking it and my T beat the fuck out of it lmfao it was crazy because it tried to wrap around my T but she ran out and then waited for awhile
i only search this up becuz i was going to shower and saw it on my wall. i tried to spray bleech but the bottle was empty so i threw the bottle and it charged me, i jumped over it grab my sock, waiting for it to charge me again, then i squish it and ran. the sock is still in the bathroom (to scared to pick it up). someone plz throw my sock away
@acrkang84 well if you want anouther reason to keep 'em, they eat spiders, cokroaches, silverfish, flies and just about every bug you can imagine, if you have some in your house, your unlikly to see many other bugs
felt a tingling on my leg while in bed and i jumped up to see a HC racing around for cover, so i spent 20 minutes searching the room, eventually boarded up the heater since they get in from there. i don't feel like killing them, it's too messy with the bigger ones
@keenis many rolled up dead centipedes in my basement, but they are different WALK WAY SLOWER and dont have long legss have WAY SHORTER legs mini mini and are just an inch long, and are black, what the fucking fuck are these??
Ha house centipedes are the baddest insects around...first time I saw one it scared the crap outa me.

the house centipede is one of the most harmless insects in the home to humans, ever. so everyones freaked out over a harmless, scary looking creature. nonetheless, they are beneficial... unfortunately, i tried killing some roaches with Raid just now, and a centipede crawled across the poison. No more centipede.
ShadowCat07 10 months ago
The first time i ever saw one was on my carpet and i thought it was a hairball until i walked over to it and it took off at 50mph and i didnt know what the hell it was. I cried for a week.

BL00DYSL4YER54 10 months ago
Just killed one. I hate these fucking things. I've had nightmares about them. I never saw one until I moved to Boston. Now I've seen them in every apartment I've lived in. Horrifying. Give me a spider any day. At least they hang out in the corner and don't cruise around at 60 mph.
mcadarette 11 months ago 76
@mcadarette never saw these until i moved to boston from socal. And I thought the people were weird...
frtpwr 9 months ago
@mcadarette I used to think my biggest fear was spiders. Nooo. Just imagining these things makes me paranoid. When I'm in the bathroom, and the thought of them pops in my head, I check the toilet papers, the towels, the floors, etc. Actually, I'm getting paranoid already. And the worst is how they run. We have them here in Oregon, too. And your comment on them running 60 mph freaked me out even more- please tell me that's an exaggeration D:
chibigrunt 6 months ago
@chibigrunt It's an understatement they actually go 100mph. Sorry, bro o.O

@Zellig What. The. Fuck O_e... You're actually scaring me, lol.1.3 ft/s (wikipedia, haha) is still pretty damn fast. Euuughhh, these pictures are creeping me out. Especially the thumbnail on the side that says "There's a house centipede in my room"
chibigrunt 6 months ago
@Zellig Why didn't you message me earlier?! It's 3 in the morning and I'm really paranoid right now! I'm imagining on scurrying up my bad so fast that I would nearly piss myself because 1. I would be scared shitless and 2. I have to use the bathroom.
chibigrunt 6 months ago
@chibigrunt they really are fast, but they're not in your house to visit you, they are there to eat other pests, and they won't ever bother you unless you step on one by accident. These things can live past 5 years old, so in some people's cases they might have been living there before the human owners. I had one in my place, freaked out the first time I saw it, read about it, and 2 years later found it dead. Within 3 months, another moved in. You tend to only have one of these at a time.

I would try taking the fight up a notch by finding something with armor maybe. Possibly put a few ants in there. Something like that because everything seems to be a first contact kill.

The house centipede's venom is too weak to cause any serious harm to larger pets such as cats and dogs.
argoby 1 year ago 3
@argoby but can inflict a minor but potentially painful bite in a human =)
However would require someone being foolish or naive such as attempting to hold a larger one between the fingers. Considering how fast they are and repulsive to most people, a very unlikely situation. Despite being invasive to most areas, they appear to be more beneficial at least in the home environment than not. "He carries no diseases. In effect, he is your own personal full-time cockroach cop." Bundle Brent

My cat used to love goin' after em but after awhile I noticed that he wouldn't eat them after he killed them. The last few times he did, he gagged like it was a really bad taste or something.

all centipedes are venomous, but most can't hurt humans. The Vietnamese Giant Centipede, though, can kill if the venom goes untreated.
