I wouldn't say I can speak German. The difference between English and German, however, is English is a language that's spoken all around the world. I don't speak german because I chose I didn't like it (no offense).

My reason for saying things about languages: in the Netherlands, if someone from Germany comes here, we must speak German to them because they don't speak English (or Dutch). If I go to Germany, I have to speak german or english (and this counts for more languages). Fair?

There are Germans who are indignant when people in Germany do not speak German. Unfortunetly, in most cases those persons can't speak German correctly themselves. I often feel ashamed because of that, but rationality is a virtue most Germans are unaware of. Good old days of poets and thinkers are over. I on the other hand try to take up the cudgels for my nation.

@hancar i'm swiss and i learn english at school so i can understand it that well to watch movies... but to be honest... i had problems when i wanted to watch the 3rd one in english..because when they mumble it's quite hard to understand.. hmm and the strong accents of some people (for example that one with the glass eye) are cool but still they raise the difficulty... however, the german voices are really nice and it's hard to compare them with the english ones but you should once listen to them
