This piece was used to beautiful effect throughout the 1988 film Paperhouse (which is available in several parts on here Youtube). Please seek it out and watch it and if you do, please say a prayer in memory of its young star Elliott Spiers (who played Marc) who died in 1994 aged just 20.
@ahmedeox Religion provokes wars... FAITH facilitated the creation of such music... Religion is another body politic... A persons faith and their view of their God drives them to produce music.
according to the Orthodoxy, this is sung by the Unseen Powers (angels) during the Holy Liturgy in Heavens, celebrated by Jesus as Great Priest - Faure caught is very well...
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis
This music gives me such hope about the moment of death. I want this performed at my funeral. It reminds me that God is love and to be greatly awed. (my humble opnion)
I'm surfing the net for versions of faure's requiem, to practice. We, my choir, is going to perform the requiem the 4th of may this year to honor the fallen of World War II
this sanctus of fauré is not from this world. it´s so deep, so sad and beautiful at the same time. makes me cry - i did not hear it from a long time. ah there are so many wonderful pieces of blessings....
I performed the whole requiem when i was 12 i was in 2nd year and i have to say it was really a great thing to be part of. Alot of hard work to rehearse it all in 2 months but we got there, raised £3,000 for charity and then performed Mozarts requiem last year which was the same rehearsal time but far more difficult. Again it was stunning to be part of i really enjoyed this part of the mass though in faure's i was a soprano at the time now im i bass lol but i will always cherish the memory
My favorite part is at 2:00 when the French Horns (?) come in followed by the tenors and basses. I sang this in 11th grade and that entrance was the highest note I'd sung since becoming a bass in 8th grade. Seriously sweet stuff...
Sanctus sanctus. Sanctus dominus. Dominus deus. deus sabaoth. sanctus dominus deus! Pleni sunt coeli et terra! hosanna in exelsis. hosanna in exelsis. HOSANNA IN EXELSIS!! IN EXELSIS! sanctus.
I've heard Faure's Requiem by many groups, some better than others. But never lost is the magic of his inspired creation. I believe he wrote it that way.
I think this great, especially the harpist. Listen, it makes the movement if you ask me. This is my favorite portion of the Requiem and I am preparing to perform it the beginning of November. I'm excited!
Heh, yeah, we're doing this set currently and will be performing in December and I hate the Soprano's here. I have to sing Soprano and I don't do the vibrato. It doesn't make it sound any better.
The "Hossanah's" are much more thrilling if it is kept at pianissimo through the first part. It is litterally supposed to go from 'pp' to 'p' to 'ff' in a matter of eight measures.
I love this Requiem but here it is just a tiny bit too fast! Still very well played and sung though.

I'm happy to be soprano for this .

On examining the score for this movement the altos sing two notes, as part of the final vocal cadance....and that's why I'm a soprano!

At the end of the day a requiem is just a funeral dirge, but this one is my favorite.

It is amazing that religion provoked so many wars while at the same time facilitated the creation of such music.

The world suddenly seems to be experts on Faures Requiem,
Can't people just listen and enjoy it with resorting to being armchair critics.
