The magpie isn't eating the babies. They don't eat other birds. It's knicking the thrushes nest materials (Twigs).

@chazzbuzz They are mistle thrushes
Er .... The magpie ends up in the thrushes' nest in those twigs, eating the babies. If you wander around RP in late spring there are lots of hidden nests, right under our noses.
