I liked the theme that News 8 had back then, especially when they called themselves "The Spirit of Texas"
Brad Watson is still with News 8 but he does field reports more than anchor desk, I don't remember Neal Barton, course I was 5 years old then. But, I do remember Brain Jensen, he was the sports guy till bout 98? I don't know, but he went to KXAS NBC 5 for a while then went to KTVT CBS 11 for a bit and then left, and hasn't been seen since.
Brian Jensen, last I heard is now on radio. He went to NBC 5 in 1997 (and is now featured for Texas Tech football). Neal Barton is now at KETK in Tyler/Longview, TX.
I went to KETK's website I saw Barton, he said that he went to KTVT and was a weather dude, and then he later became certified as a meteorologist while at KTVT and now he's there at KETK. He looks totally different than in the vid.
Anyone who frequents the NMSA knows that most of the dates listed are based on people like you and me supplying information.
With that said, I can tell you that these graphics were introduced in 1991 with the Spirit Theme they had been using for years. In 1992, the new theme was introduced with the same graphics (with some different photos used in the talent slide). This theme was used until 1996, although the talent slide was cut in 93 or 94.
Yeah, and I think you had some clips of both themes using these graphics, back when you were bdsnook (that is, before you were suspended because of the sports clips). Any chance those clips are going back up soon? You had a 1991 open/close with the TM Spirit theme (since there were 2 Spirit themes with the exact same name, 2nd by Stephen Arnold), then a 1992 open/close using this theme here.
Right. But someone said this theme debuted around September 1992. So, if that's the case, then the NMSA's entry on Spirit for WFAA should say 1984-1992. (I'll ask...did anyone recall the Spirit theme used during early-mid 1992?)
Unless there's a chance that WFAA had a different theme in between. I'm not in the DFW area so I wouldn't know.
Another example of a year "missing" in the NMSA is WVEC... they have Turn to News listed from 84-91 and USA News listed from 93-96. I'm really sure WVEC dumped the Turn To "techno" update and started using the square 13 logo and USA News in late 1992, but nobody has any proof (that being, a newscast or something). You'd have to do the same for WFAA and this situation.

Okay, thanks gameshowguy.

The funny thing is that Neal Barton is an anchor for KETK and not a meteorologist.

Hmmm, well....according to WFAA's Wikipedia entry, it says WVEC used the Spirit theme. The NMSA says they didn't.
gameshowguy2000 4 years ago
WVEC used the "Spirit" slogan, but never the music package.

I think they used the KEVN theme for newscasts for a year, I'm not from Norfolk so I wouldn't know.
sanantonionewsman 4 years ago
KEVN theme was and still is used for "On the Record" on Sunday mornings.
ntropolis 4 years ago
Speaking of "On the Record", is it possible if you can put a current OTR open on youtube?
sanantonionewsman 4 years ago
By the way, the NMSA said that WFAA used Spirit from 1984-1991, so this theme must've been used once 1992 began.

KDFI is sister to KDFW.
gameshowguy2000 4 years ago
And...these graphics were used in the final months of TM's Spirit theme (Phase 2, which the NMSA originally dubbed as the WFAA 1986 News Theme).
And...this is the 10 PM newscast, not 11 PM (whoever put this up)

It gets way tougher after :20.

regarded as one of the best music packages WFAA ever used.
would you happen to have weekday at Daybreak, Noon, 5, 6, or 10?
willdan189 4 years ago
I'm afraid not. This is the only WFAA open I've got. As you can see on my channel, I've got a lot of opens. This, however, is one of my favorites.
NewmanNewsman 4 years ago
@willdan189 WFAA used the Daybreak title as fellow ABC affiliate KVII in Amarillo

This theme came out in '92
