Sir, Not all trolls leave purely abusive comments. When I troll I try and avoid saying like "lol fag" or "**** you" and more along the lines so stupid or irrelevant its funny. Like say if you made a video about japan I would argue that The Japanese people are evil because they hunt and kill zebras to make bacon out of there hoofs.
Many good points in the video; I believe that, everyone's opinions are indeed different and there is no need to be overly rude and argumentative about it. People should learn to keep the rudeness and insulting material to themselves.
Living in a harmonious society should be everyone's goal; not to be shrouded in a cloud of disagreeing sides...
You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. It just goes to show that it is better to be nice and reasonable not argumentative and trolling.
What you are describing is a douche bag. A troll is someone that provoke thought and challenge your position. He could be rude, he could be nice but most of the time you wont notice him.
By nature, most of them will disagree. But not everyone that disagree are troll. Always assume good faith is first rule of the interwebs.
When you call troll on peoples, it is to congratulate them because it was well played. Not because you are mad they disagree with you. Anything else it would be abuse.
I love it when he says "dumb dumb head" lol :D But he's right about the type of people on youtube. Its best to try to be as polite as possible when your commenting on something because words can hurt or greatly offend people.
I just subscribed and I'm going through and watching all the videos on this channel so I realize my comment here is untimely.I'm going to agree with hcsurfer26 in that I think that current technology(ie texting, facebook, twitter, youtube)lends itself to cowardice. MANY of the things people write on these sites (and texts) they would NEVER say in person. The electronic distance emboldens people to be ugly and that's unfortunate. You have handled it here with grace and more people should.
In regard to the last thing you said about not seeing that kind of trait among japanese people - isn't this because japanese tend to hide their true feelings? Y'know I'm honest about everything, and I express my feelings on just about everything, and it really does feel good. So, we're all human, and if japanese aren't being argumentative or very expressive that might just be unhealthy. Hiding away your true self/feelings is not something that should be seen as an admirable trait.
I have a really weird question. I have noticed in your video, that the engine is running kinda weird. I was in Japan few weeks ago and all the vehicle I used were like that. The engines don't run and feel the same. Like it's... stiffer. Is the engine oil different in Japan? Or the spark plugs? I know it's a weird question. But when I heard your engine I automatically recognized something familiar.
True statement you've made in this video. Keep up your great work and courage to talk about topics which need to be discussed in a critical as well as differentiated way without becoming rude nor insulting. Otherwise, a discussion makes no sense at all! Thank you for speaking!
"A lot of people agree with it" - It might have to do with the fact that you block and delete everyone who disagrees with you, labeling them as a troll :)
@AlekNovi Well, in all fairness, you are being disagreeable, and harassing him. Is it even worth it? In my opinion, Japan must be a wonderful place if they can all get along.
Totally agree "Is there really a reason to convince other people about what I think?" ... I used to play some online games but one of the reasons i quit playing was because the number of aggresive comments and insults, without any reasons to say them. Same thing goes for youtube and the internet generally.
At least there are people who still care about this topic... Great video.
I agree with you. My friend gave me a good reason why they do it. Not a good reason but uh... explanation. He said they say rude or aggressive comments because you can't see them. Because they are online and can't be seen.
Great distinctions outlined here. Your examples are spot on. It is certainly an interesting thing to see the different ways in which people communicate in comments and I had never before stopped to consider the "levels" of interaction you describe.
Now I just need to figure out why so many people keep telling me in comments that I sound like Kermit the Frog. :-)
I love how you are using some of the tactics of the "intellectually rude" people when you talk about them saying things like they have some deficiency. I guess its how you said it though, you just can't help but add insults. I know that this is probably one of those comments that you are talking about, but i guess i just can't help it either.
The anonymous state of mind online gives people the urge to be mischievous and hateful without fear of reprisal. That's just typical of people who want to seem "cool" and "tough" or whatever. I personally don't think there is any real psychology to trolls, they just want to be an arseface because nobody can touch them online. I don't mind trolls, that's what the Ignore button is for. I just wish more people would use it. You're a vlogger, so you have to manage your videos. Great video! ^^
Oh my god, thank YOU for making this video!!! I've been so tired of these hateful, ignorant comments online, which I haven't gotten any fortunately. I was (and maybe still am) gonna make a video about this, cuz' I don't know why people have to offend others so bad. And, why do they even bother watching the videos they are disgusted by?
I think I found Lord in this clip, though I'm totally irreligious.
I know I sounded weird, but you're just too awesome.
I know how you feel. I have been flamed and bashed for leaving comments on videos on here just stating what I think about certain videos. They disagree with the comment and try to start arguments with me. I will not argue with them since it is totally useless and pointless. So, I just delete the comment and move on
It's hard to see, how the Japanese people are able to control theirs so much better than the rest of the world. It makes me think, that being rude exists there just like anywhere else in the world, just on another level, that we - who are used to stuff so much worse - just don't realise!
(a bit like your example of the being naive=being dumb comment)
I can really understand why one would want to live in Japan if what you say is true and the behaviour there is really that different from what I know!
Still, I can't help but wonder if it's just the "volume" of bad behaviour that is the difference - I mean: people are people all over the world and allthough there are so many culturs, the basics are the same for all of us! We all have "neither instincts" and a bad side to us, don't we?
Ha!!! I have shot video in prep for a series Im trying to launch about people and their opinions. All this has motivated me to get that stuff going! And coincidentally I do driving videos to. I dont know what kinda of set up you use but I have this flexi arm attached to a suction cup that will stick to the window just about anywhere. Its quite usefull and has little to no vibration noise. Gives you lots of different camera angle possibilities.
I strongly believe that politness is also connected with life experience. Rude people except that are very limited. Btw, Japan seems to be perfect country where to live!:)
well see, whether a person sees an insult in a bit of text is up to that person... i mean, you cant really claim to know exactly what a person intends, as, you are not that person. your perception is your own, so of course, what might seem rude to you may seem perfectly fine and even polite to others. i personally know someone who can see an insult in EVERYthing--its baffling to me, but again, i dont perceive things the way they do.
flame wars? some people just like to debate and others do it to piss people off. so with people like these responding to me i just ignore what they said and don't respond. debating seems to be perfectly fine as long as ad hom (personal) attacks aren't introduced into it, which defeat the purpose. ad hom attacks are such things as you noted once, such as how some people saw "the japan channel" and posted racial comments against japanese. people use these attacks to somehow support their argument.
Trolls should be renamed. If I were called a troll, I'd rather be pleased. If I were called an "asshole" I'd be more enraged. Remember, feed the trolls. Feed them their own poison.
I believe that the condescending tone that is often heard nowadays is something that is being taught by society and the media all around us. In the United States, this behavior can be seen by the television networks and the news stations (Fox News, CNN, etc.). Not only is it becoming socially acceptable to belittle another person, but to also beat them down trying to stress a point. I find it indecent and disrespectful and I believe the speaker loses credibility when they use these tactics.
To criticise someone without sounding rude or trying to make it sound that you're trying to prove you're smarter or know a lot more than another person actually requires a lot of practice depending on how or where that person grew up. Like you said, in Japan people do that naturally, simply because they grew up in a smart enviroment.
I am not sure where I stand, it might depend on my mood. But i was just talking with somebody recently who was so sure of their reality, that they flat out said i was not ready to handle certain realities

I just cant understand why people act like they want to debate when they can only insult with the most closed mind imaginable
I have to agree with you. Those kinds of people are almost worse than trolls. I find them very irritating. They can never just be mature and forget it. Reason why I never really respond to any replies to my comments. Unless they meet a critria of intelligence and politness. Which is basicly never in other words xD
Well said. It's about time someone brought this up. I have seen some of the most obsurd comments posted on pages etc that have nothing to do with anything and have recieved even worse on my blog trying to sound intelligent but obviously being nasty and think they are the authority on their opinion. i definately think that there are mistakes in the line of thought of people that better be corrected, otherwise we will see the problems in the world that we currently see. most of these problems stem from shortsightedness or ignorance of some degree and to get rid of them the way people often think has to change fundamentally.
if it is just a matter of preference then its ok, but if it has far reaching consequences you shouldnt back out that easily and let them get away with it.
We see in the other only what we "are". The other, is our mirror self. What we can't see in the other, we are not.
So, trolls are hating themselves.
"Defect and ugliness are not in things or beings, but in the impurity of our vision of them. The more the soul is peaceful, perfect and pure, the more it will become disposed to see in all beings as Luminous Divine manifestation: All is beautiful."
i am just a lowly united states person so I know i am just a big dumb dumb head but i have an opinion too, you know. Even though i'm not sure what my opinion is, i do have one, i think ???
I try not to respond to Trolls simply because they are looking for attention, good or bad. I suppose it's good they have an outlet but it's annoying just the same. No one wants to be considered a dumb dumb head. LOL
That's the funny thing about the internet. Since people are not present physically, they say what ever they want! No recourse for negative action other than a nasty comment back at them for what they said? Or you ban them and try to delete them? Same thing goes with texting on cell phones, if someone accidently gets your number? People are just people, they are all right, everyone else is wrong, and they have to prove their point. Whether its valid or not. Or even worth the trouble!?! 5 stars!!
About the last bit of the video, I think that if someone is actually wrong about something (like say, he thinks the earth is flat), you SHOULD correct him.
Its not because you want to show that you are better or smarter, but because its just... necessary.
But debating something in youtube comments in pointless... soooo.......
@TheSillyOldDude You're completely wrong, and smell of rotten cake! (Oh, and you're a dumb-dumb head)
IS what I would say if I was a troll, haha. But seriously, I agree. Though I have got a bad habit of correcting nearly everything I see that's wrong, I try to do it politely.
It's very possible. But for some reason, people still decide to throw hissy fits whenever they disagree with somebody over the internet. I guess knowing that they have anonymity over the internet, they feel it gives them more freedom to vent their anger and frustrations of everyday life. They really can't vent in life, so they use the internet as a source of "anger relief."
Isn't this similar to communicating in general? Some express in ways that are passive/aggressive, some use floral words to kill you with a thousand paper cuts, and the backhanders from the smart arzes. In different cultures, communication is different. I guess in Japan, there is still a confusion wisdom which is an ancient custom. Blessings FLETCHER
Ahhh!! you are driving and filming again!! you dum dum head:P just give me some trolls I only get normal comments. Every person may state thier own opinion. why dis others, learn about difference. keep the peace and camera out of the car!!
I respect your opinion although it differs from my own :-D
The camera is set on a tripod and requires no action from me.
So I am only talking in the same way that I would be if a passenger was talking to me.
I live in a small town with very little traffic so please don't worry.
Although I respect your opinion!
(When I fly aircraft I have maps and calculators on my lap and make calculations while flying the plane and using the radio ^-^ and that is standard ^-^)
@TheSillyOldDude Flying is different from driving, driving you have a bunch of people who dont always know what they are doing a few feet from you. Flying you usually have people with better training around you, and they are nowhere near as close. That and I believe driving is a lot more of an active process at times, but I'm not a pilot so i could be completely wrong about all iv just wrote.

Yes, it is because they often hide their true feelings.
Some foreigners don't like living here because of that.
But I prefer it because it results in a harmonious society.
How much "telling people what I think" is actually positive or beneficial?
Most of it is not.. it is just ego and argumentation.
Youtube is full of examples.

Bullshit.

@TheSillyOldDude I see you deleting and blocking people for simply continuing to disagree with you. As I am doing right now. No "name calling" per se.
In essence any disagreement that's strong, direct, you label "agressive".
There's one thing to consider. Ever wondered why most youtube authors don't have these anti-troll-rant videos?
Like here, this thread, if I keep replying and disagreeing, you will block me and declare me a troll, because that's what you do.

"Trolls" are actually Haters.
~ Swami Yogananda
So true !

I try not to respond to Trolls simply because they are looking for attention, good or bad. I suppose it's good they have an outlet but it's annoying just the same. No one wants to be considered a dumb dumb head. LOL

The only way to beat trolls is to ignore trolls. There is a saying that goes around the internet.
"Don't feed the trolls"

@Netanel17
I agree with you.
I just believe it is possible to discuss or even debate stuff without making ANY comment or criticism about the other person.
Like you and I just did!

Absolutely!
Just another reason I live here!
I prefer the way these guys live.
No fingers out the window of the car, rarely horn blowing, rarely a raised voice, rarely aggro of any sort!

Ahhh!! you are driving and filming again!! you dum dum head:P just give me some trolls I only get normal comments. Every person may state thier own opinion. why dis others, learn about difference. keep the peace and camera out of the car!!

@MrPentraxmul

@InsaneVender
So maybe you can choose to not talk while you are driving in the countryside..
and I will choose to talk while driving in the countryside..
and then we will both be happy :-D
Enough said ^_^
