One of the most violent Irish films ever made. It is laden with violence from the very opening scenes. The dead donkey, the sheer brutal nature of the labour carrying seaweed, the sea itself.........and it just gets more violent.
ah lads this is bullshit the book is so much better they jus made up haf the film an they had the cheek to tone down the character of the bull mc cabe this is a disgrace to john b keane god rest his soul
Please and thank you! The Sporting Life plus all the other great characters he has played in many classic films....I did not place the above actors on the same level I just expressed my opinion.
why did they not bury the donkey?

I've been to Leenane, where The Field, was filmed many, many times - it's every bit as beautiful and wild as the film suggests.
This film represents what is perhaps Richard Harris' finest performance (or one of them anyway). Like the Bull McCabe, it will live forever!

Harris's finest hour and his comeback. He deserved the oscar.

Fantastic. Thanks so much for posting this. Amongst the great swathes of rubbish filling Youtube it's so nice to find a gem like this.

Two of my favorite actors Richard Harris an Sean Bean.

Please! Richard Harris was an actor.....
Sean Bean just shows up in films and has all the screen presence of a sheet of plywood...
