I'm afraid that the poster is correct. The device they were assembling was an anti personnel bomb loaded with nails and other shards, much like the present day bombs of Hamas and Al Queda. If it hadn't exploded and killed them, they would have planted far more. In addition, a bomb at a center in Michigan that was supposed to be just for the building killed a researcher who happened to be in the building.
