Yeah, I thought it "might be cool" to have a Collings like that. I did a quick Ebay search - there was only 1. $2800 bucks used. XD Chris probably put down about $5,000 plus for his custom model...lol, so I guess I won't be getting one of those anytime soon. :-D

i love this guitar!! i just learned that its an avalon. i don't know what an avalon is, but it sounds great!! chris tomlin rules, i'm so awaiting the new album!

I'm not sure about the Avalon. Maybe Chris had it custom made with certain tonewoods to bring out the brightness and clarity. It has a distinct 'ring' for the chord changes. I am a guitar player, as well. There is another video on Youtube that is just like this one, but apparently recorded by another person off to the right of Chris and further back. Their video...didn't have these distinctive 'ringing' sounds. So it's either the way the camera recorded it, or something with the speakers.

However, I can try to find that video for you, if you'd like. I love the sounds this guitar makes...and it's still an awesome guitar. But that's the only sound clip where you will find these certain odd ringing sounds. After careful review, I have determined that it is a sound issue - some kind of overtone/ringback going on with the camera. Perhaps the latency of the speakers that are in different places causing the echo effect. I can play chords similar to these, and it sounds about the same.

Chris plays with some pretty technical and 'odd' chords, which most people have trouble learning and playing. You'll notice that he wraps his thumb around the neck to catch bass notes on the 1st bass string, too. This can cause the average person to get carpal tunnel by doing that, but his style is unique and apparently doesn't cause him discomfort. He uses a LOT of chord variations, hammer-ons, etc. Take a look at 1:29-1:145 in my link, to see what I'm talking about. :-)

I think the guitar is a Collings, although he does plan an Avalon as well.

Avalon's are extremely cheap.

they are super crappy too.

he just has super nice electronics in them.

Thats not an Avalon right there. i've never heard of avalon though. I like a Martin or Gibson myself.
