  • This man not only delivers timeless music but he has such an incredible sense of humor. All around one of the greatest musical artists of all time. If you enjoy the music of Tom Waits you should check out my cover of Chocolate Jesus on my channel.

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Tom Waits dances with the devil

  • "braga- dosios" ???:D

  • Where does he come up with this stuff?

  • Tom Waits- A ginger with more soul than most of us will ever know.

  • OH! shout out to Murder Ballads.

  • Tom is the musical version of George Carlin!!

  • @touretteman

He kind of always struck me a a Cosmo Kramer type attempting to write for a Broadway musical in the forties having spent time in a Delta blues band in his youth....

  • I vote for TW for President - he couldn't do any worse imo.

  • good call - i wonder if Tom Waits was an inspiration.....

  • @Catinthehat69 I guarantee it.

  • murder ballads shout out FTW!

  • A true ICON, an orignal beyond compare. A punk rock version of a beatnik poet, and jazz musician...just to name a few. A man that enjoys the fact that we mere mortals cannot fit him into a catagory...and we're glan not to try. Thanks Tom

  • why is everyone rambling on about tom waits and the joker...every tom waits vid i have looked at has a mention to this. what astute observations.

  • @benjamminmt My wife has a theory that Billy Gibbons and Tom Waits are the same guy.

    Is that one better :).

  • @swirleynoise

There's a hidden track on ZZ Top's Mescalero album that is Billy Gibbons singing the old standard "As Time Goes By" and it does sound a hell of a lot like Tom.

  • it's a very gooood musician, and greaaat feelings

  • damn.....this almost made me cry...

  • he mentioned murder ballads by nick cave!!!

  • no. He mntioned murder ballads.

  • @twilliams232 I don't think he meant murder ballads by nick cave...because the things on that list were just that...things.

  • Does anyone notice how similar Heath Ledger's Joker voice sounds like Tom Waits? I dunno if this was noticed before or not, but it stands out to me very clearly now.

  • sorry man, I pressed the wrong button, but Heath does sound like Tom.

  • @MST3Killa absolutely it does, was just wondering if it was by accident or design the Ledger's joker sounded the same... interesting.

  • thanks for this vid. the voice sync is out , but i dont care, great to hear him speak, and wonder if the sync delay is intentionl? just to test ya?

  • What bothers me is that it's in sync on my computer. It was when I uploaded it that it got out of sync and the resolution got pretty bad. I have no idea why. :-/

  • it is most likely the format of the video

  • @Delluvian re-upload it, with different settings i suppose. (i have never uploaded any song but it should work).

  • @thanosbo

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that. :)

  • Fucking brilliant!

  • God, I love him.

  • Love you Tom --Brilliant !

  • Tom is a genius! A crazy, hilarious genius!

I love him! Have you watched Tom Waits press conference on you tube? A Legend!

  • Hi EmyMilesSonny, I have watched Tom's press conference. It was hilarious. Brilliant too. The biz has a lot to learn from him. Maybe it doesn't deserve to learn anything from someone so unique or original. hahahaha

  • it's the whiskey and other booze that rapes your voice lips

  • these people everyone makes jokes about are the ones making all the money.watch the movie cadillac records.the guy narrating the movie is explaining how whoever does the paerwork is the 1 gettin paid the most

  • when exactly did johnny cash say that line? i know tom uses it in "jayne's blue wish" but i cant find its supposed origins with johnny

  • If I could spend a half an hour shooting pool and exchanging stories with anybody... This would be the guy.

  • ditto

  • coffee and cigarettes mang!

  • @sex6cult9revolution you know he will beat you lol

  • Man, is he a storyteller!! A man of words, as he once said. And he knows how to make them drive you.

  • who the fuck is steveo?

  • i think he means the guy from jackass

  • he is implying that Tom sounds like Stev-O and sucks.

  • Oh its like that...jeff is a funny guy. A clown. Very funny jeff the clown but if you really want to make us laugh kill yourself!!!

  • Stevo is a talentless twat.

  • steveo sounds like him mate...hes nearly 60

  • lol asscap

    sorry, everyone.

  • IRONWEED, the big film with Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep with Tom Waits having very big scenes with both of them, is supposed to be getting it's DVD release around this time...maybe less than a month. It's a big deal....Hector Babenco film about the depression made in the eighties...

  • is it just me, or does he sound remarkably like heath ledger's joker???

    OLD RED

  • I think ledger's joker sounds like him, to be honest, as waits was around first

  • true that

  • Yes. Thank you! Couldn't agree more.

  • @ShadowRivermoon I agree...I hate when people say that he sound like the joker, those people obviously don't know where they both sit on a time line.

  • @LucidDream

The Joker sounds like Tom Waits (not the other way around) and it probably isn't a coincidence. Heath was working on the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus around the same time as The Dark Knight. I wouldn't be surprised if he was inspired by Tom in some shape or form while he was working with him.

  • @ShadowRivermoon ledger used waits' voice as inspiration for the jokers voice

  • It is not surprising. Ledger and Waits were shooting a movie together when Ledger died.

  • oh Tom, you give me such a heart on.

  • nils suger hestekuk!!!!

  • hvem er nils? :p

  • den forferdelige, forferdelige naboen som bor ved siden av delluvian og meg....

  • den forferdelige, bor ved forfnaboen nils suger som meg hvem nils

  • Is it just me, or does it actually sound like Heath Ledger got some inspiration for his version of the joker from Mr. Waits?

I mean the voice and way of speaking... not the looks xD

  • I thought the exact same thing!

  • Yes, very true. I was also going to comment on that but seen as though you brought it up I will just add this. Not only does he talk/sound the same but his movements are all the same too. The way he reaches back to his coat pocket to get something but pulls nothing out. The way he pauses in mid sentence and then restarts at a totally different point. If Heath Ledger did take the idea from this man then he is more of a genius then I first thought. As that mix is perfect for that character. ...

  • I totally agree with you and BlackRain below. The first time Ledger appears on screen in Dark Knight you see him from behind and it immediately struck me how much the way he stood and moved was somewhat reminiscent of Waits. Also, when Ledger died he was working on a film co-starring Waits, called The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, I believe.

  • Go get Cold Feet. It's on DVD...and usually on amazon. It's Tom's biggest role, and he's very funny and mad in it. I have about 4 copies, and I always give them to friends who haven't seen it. Keith Carradine also in it, with Sally Kirkland. PRime Waits. And of course, so is Ironweed. But good luck finding that on region one. Be sure to watch the end credits of Cold Feet. It ain't over till it's over.

  • Yep, Cold Feet is a good one for Waits. I'd say it's about on par with Down By Law for screen time but I'd have to compare closely, maybe Down By Law has more? I never saw At Play in the Fields of the Lord (or whatever it's called, a Hector Babenco film, I think), but he's big in that, too.

  • Waits is good in Wristcutters too... It's a dark comedy... not as depressing as it sounds.

  • Saw wristcutters....it's ok as a tom waits role...but I repeat....get Cold Feet, if you want to party with Tom.

  • i just dont like it that he gets the corny line

"tell her that you love her"

    bleh

  • nonono, the ultimate tom waits movie is Down By Law

  • fact of the mattter is that waits does what he feels when he wants to leave then its time to leave no goodbyes no questions he's just gone nothing holds this man back and if you cant respect that then you've probably never left sight of your computer screen or cell phone

  • You know what I can't respect? Someone who thinks he is above punctuation.

  • maybe they think they are below it.

  • The most important thing to remember about Tom is that when ever you (and he'll tell you this too) change your socks, especially after wearing them a couple of days, clean the lint out from between your toes, otherwise you won't sound as good as you think others do. Oh yea, then turn the socks outside inside.

  • ...what?

  • redibeaver-nice handle. The man is a breathing encyclopedia of the most obscure and fundamental musics known to man. Your malicious ignorance is symptomatic of deeper issues. Please continue to piss away your desperate 15 minutes while his legend and influnce grow.

  • Cash covered a Waits song dipshit.

  • Hey i've been a fan for a while i love Waits music, what is the song Cash covered? :O I didn't know he did one.

  • "life is a path lit only by the LIGHT of those iv lived"....

    yeah.. sorry

  • "life's a path lit only by the once of those i loved"..

thats "Jayne's Blue Wish" from "Orphans" and hes saying that is a line by Jhonny Cash......is it?

  • I could totally see him swallowing dice.

  • Shame its abridged.

  • God bless Tom Waits. A drunkard, creole pressed, road song, dead pan, for us all.

  • I guess none, that's why he's so sharp

  • according to his biography, he wasn't into drugs, just drink. but he gave that up and the cigarettes when he was thirty-ish when he met kathleen. and the rest is history...

  • He had his days on the bottle... That's partly how he got his whisky voice. Before that he hd a really clear voice. But I'll doubt that work for everybody ;)

  • He's done 6 drugs.

  • How do you know? and what are the 6

  • Hehe... It's just a joke man...

He's actually been sober for almost 20 years.

  • seven

  • I love his disjointed thoughts and anecdotes. They seem to have little to do with the topic at hand, but he always has a point. He's like your crazy grandpa, but a lot sharper.

  • Hahaha, very well said!

  • I don't even have to say what I'm thinking. I'll just let you get flamed by everyone else.

  • his tour wasn't well planned, not in the stars. he should have come to California.

  • its an act, retard. his lovable drunkard hobo alter-ego. the fact that you were taken in by it shows how good he is at it.

  • yeah, he's even said the same himself to Jon Stuart...exact statement...but regardless, as a singer songwriter, I truly believe, "act" or not, he stumbled upon something that has profoundly worked and that will forever edify us all!

  • How did his tour bomb?

Every show sold out, and every review I saw gave him 5 stars. It was, by miles, the best thing I've ever been to.

  • Being able to watch Tom Waits & hear his poetry is amazing and opens something deep in the soul -hi speed rocks! but posting comments is too time consuming and all the arguing really pointless we should go use the time we have on this earth to make some art

  • saw Tom waits at the 10th anniversary of Midnight Cowboy in '79 at the Canegie hall cinema. Only because the cops had to turn up the house lights because somebody in the audience was having a bad acid trip.Only in New York! Lol.....

  • {{{{{Tom Waits}}}}}

VT ~ I have 1972 Chi-town radio music saved on groovy pink "Go Cassette" tapes.

  • DOwnloading from the internet today is the same like copyin' and tradin'casettes in the 80's

  • Every Tom Waits video i look at seems to involve so much conflict in the comments section. People that dont enjoy the video shouldnt comment at all, it should be a forum of people showing their gratitude towards the clips and hte artist.

  • How about everyone is quite and enjoy the the sweet soothing voice of tom waits.

  • that's a pretty elitist view - "he's great so stop people enjoying him" ridiculous! not to mention joining this kind of site to condemn it. yeah, you fight the power.

  • How exactly? Guys like Tom waits aren't out doing the small venues like they used to, so seeking him out in the old school clubs & bars like a "proper fan" isn't going to work is it? I agree with evilpunkfreud-everyone should stop whining like college punks & enjoy it for what it is. Great music & words from a great man. Through whatever medium it is presented to us, just be thankfull & appreciative.

  • don't be such a hippie.

  • Waits rules! Lemmy is a Retard!

  • Lemmy loves waits you fool. That's precisely why he wants him off the internet!

  • I got his meaning poindexter. still seems like pointless statement, how're new people gonna discover Waits without showing him on things like this?

  • turn off the radio while you're at it.Have your musical experience reduced to buskers and ballroom orquestras..they way it used to be

  • it is foolish to lock yourself out of the future

anyone smart enough will tell you this

the internet is nothing but a new way to access information. some music can't even be found without the internet, rare albums from bands like Pyramid and Les rallizes denudes.

  • Tom Waits hasn't toured in years I don't think! If it weren't for downloading, I would have never gotten into Tom Waits because I wouldn't purchase something from an artist I know nothing about his music..well now I do but before no.. Now I have purchased all the CDs I've listened to by Tom Waits and am a fan. Downloading is actually quiet important, the internet without a doubt is very important.

  • Hey Tom didn't mention cell phones or the internet among the things he loves. Nor did he mention myspace or youtube. culture is more important than a computer. smash your cell, stay-off line. spread the word

  • why?

  • says the guy posting a comment on youtube. doyyyyyyy

  • idle mind

  • Yeah man will do.. you go first lemmy.

  • what...about...you

  • Tom enjoys Bob Dylan's XM radio shows. These he got off a friend off the internet. You do the maths.

  • Yeah, somehow I don't see someone as savvy as Tom Waits pulling a Lars Ulrich on his fans. Warren Zevon did it like it was a crusade, as he had an inexcusable amount of contempt for his fans (whom he preferred to call, "customers" for some reason).

  • i love it!! i just wish it was in sinc because his gestures go with what he is saying and its so funny and makes up half his character.

    really cool though.

  • I don't know why it's not in sync. It is on my computer, so it's only here it's not. :( It really annoys me...

  • thats alright, i still appreciate that you posted this. its still great.

  • Pure Genius

  • tom waits is truly one in a million. no hyperbole.

  • This is awesome, I love TW.

  • lol wonderful
