There's a hidden track on ZZ Top's Mescalero album that is Billy Gibbons singing the old standard "As Time Goes By" and it does sound a hell of a lot like Tom.
Does anyone notice how similar Heath Ledger's Joker voice sounds like Tom Waits? I dunno if this was noticed before or not, but it stands out to me very clearly now.
What bothers me is that it's in sync on my computer. It was when I uploaded it that it got out of sync and the resolution got pretty bad. I have no idea why. :-/
Hi EmyMilesSonny, I have watched Tom's press conference. It was hilarious. Brilliant too. The biz has a lot to learn from him. Maybe it doesn't deserve to learn anything from someone so unique or original. hahahaha
these people everyone makes jokes about are the ones making all the money.watch the movie cadillac records.the guy narrating the movie is explaining how whoever does the paerwork is the 1 gettin paid the most
IRONWEED, the big film with Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep with Tom Waits having very big scenes with both of them, is supposed to be getting it's DVD release around this time...maybe less than a month. It's a big deal....Hector Babenco film about the depression made in the eighties...
The Joker sounds like Tom Waits (not the other way around) and it probably isn't a coincidence. Heath was working on the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus around the same time as The Dark Knight. I wouldn't be surprised if he was inspired by Tom in some shape or form while he was working with him.
Yes, very true. I was also going to comment on that but seen as though you brought it up I will just add this. Not only does he talk/sound the same but his movements are all the same too. The way he reaches back to his coat pocket to get something but pulls nothing out. The way he pauses in mid sentence and then restarts at a totally different point. If Heath Ledger did take the idea from this man then he is more of a genius then I first thought. As that mix is perfect for that character. ...
I totally agree with you and BlackRain below. The first time Ledger appears on screen in Dark Knight you see him from behind and it immediately struck me how much the way he stood and moved was somewhat reminiscent of Waits. Also, when Ledger died he was working on a film co-starring Waits, called The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, I believe.
Go get Cold Feet. It's on DVD...and usually on amazon. It's Tom's biggest role, and he's very funny and mad in it. I have about 4 copies, and I always give them to friends who haven't seen it. Keith Carradine also in it, with Sally Kirkland. PRime Waits. And of course, so is Ironweed. But good luck finding that on region one. Be sure to watch the end credits of Cold Feet. It ain't over till it's over.
Yep, Cold Feet is a good one for Waits. I'd say it's about on par with Down By Law for screen time but I'd have to compare closely, maybe Down By Law has more? I never saw At Play in the Fields of the Lord (or whatever it's called, a Hector Babenco film, I think), but he's big in that, too.
fact of the mattter is that waits does what he feels when he wants to leave then its time to leave no goodbyes no questions he's just gone nothing holds this man back and if you cant respect that then you've probably never left sight of your computer screen or cell phone
The most important thing to remember about Tom is that when ever you (and he'll tell you this too) change your socks, especially after wearing them a couple of days, clean the lint out from between your toes, otherwise you won't sound as good as you think others do. Oh yea, then turn the socks outside inside.
