How to break your projecters. U should of used a rotory tool to cut off the plastic. That's was vary disapointing what you did with the vise grips. Do thing wright man if your trying to make a how to video.
breaking the projector makes me wan to hit him in the head and say use a cutter! your projextor wont reflec 100% of light anymore... my projector are worn already inside, wont polish anymore, so i have a very dim light now, what more to yours having the sticky part inside the relector? waaaaaa
For the people that don't have the resources to make one, they have now what we call "eBay" and they're much cheaper and already made. I know, sometimes you like your own touches on them, but you can still customize the eBay ones. I'm not trying to be rude, or anything.
This guy took his time to make these videos and that's greatly appreciated, but if you've never made these, this video isn't for you. Haha.
do you have a custom shop or anything? cause i could do them my self is just that im always working and dont have the time.. i have an 07 suzuki forenza.. thanks let me know.
Can someone tell me why sealing the retrofit is important, like I cut the back of my housing and after putting the projector in there is a lot of space, so why is it important to seal it?
hey, what type of plastic / gauge of perspex should i use? i am keen to try! thanks
@every one - these lights can be salvaged from a r32 etc even some vans and the HID kits are all over ebay, will link u my efforts...(multi coloured corner LED indicator & HID ae86 levin lights...)
Problem that I saw is you could have removed the excess fromt eh projector in another more safe way. Using a Dremel you could have avoided exposing any part of the insides and trimmed the projector to fit better.
Umm...the SECONDARY purpose of the housing is to maintain a consistent temperature level. The PRIMARY (which you messed up horribly by breaking it) is to reflect the light in a particular fashion into the lens. So basically you just missed the whole point of putting in HID projectors, because you will be losing control of a lot of light.
@AngeloC91 no one cares bro, HIDs are legal if they're designed with projectors. People who watch these videos want to build some or admire the craftmanship of true custom work.
Hey, great tutorials here, however, where do i get hold of the actual projector housing??? i got the bulbs but need a proper HID projector not a halogen projector.
If you're a DIY'er Make some... Use the Lens from an Old 3M Over Head Projector. You know the ones they used at school to projected the lesson on board. The 3" to 4" Lens mounted on the arm is just like a pair of glasses but only one lens. Basically a Magnifying glass. You only need 2. Then go by a College or School or some place that has Old Burned out Projector Bulbs and retrofit it to fit the HID Bulb. Drill or Cut back off and slip it over HID lite.
Once it fits nicely, Build an Aluminum frame around it and Attach the Over Head Proj. Lens a few inches in front of the old bulb. You'll have to play with the distance to get the right effect you want for your HID Projection. You might be able to modify the Burned out Proj. Bulb to attach lens to.
Once you have all an idea of how to make it, build it. Of course make sure you Remove the NEW HID BULBS while preforming the Mod... hehe
dont like the whack job of ripping projector apart and breaking it..not a professinal manner to work. I wouldnt want stuff exposed..rather use a dremel to carefully cut away parts of metal.
Battery charger method to power hids may cause them to flicker, so if they flicker its not your bulb its just the power source. Try a more stable power source such as a computer power supply or even a battery from a drill perhaps. Make sure you have enough voltage as to not damage the ballasts, should say on the ballast.
@alexcandy1411 When he uses the Battery Starter in the Garage with the Reflector housing, That is actually the Halogen Factory Bulb he uses to Test the Light Cut off areas... =)
The HID lights shouldn't work with a 12V power source like the Battery Starter/Jumper he uses in the Video. The Reason for this is; The HID Light bulbs need a ton of power to Fire the Arc. At startup the HID Bulb needs 25kV at startup. This is why they sale HID Kits… You get either a 35watt ballast or 55watt. =)
In 2nd video he uses the HID Full Kit. It has the HID bulb in housing, HID Bulb is attached to the HID BALLAST which in turn is attached to the Battery Charger as power source.=)
Maybe I misunderstood you're commit... If so my apologies! =) You could've meant while using the full HID Kit with Ballast attached to Battery Charger, it might flicker, Not sure though. If so, it still shouldn't flicker. Most HID kit's draw less than12v Halogen's. HID's draw around 6volts from battery

ok look all i am saying is if i want lets say HIDs on my charger the headlight assemblys with ballasts and bulbs are $250 and the only reason i would not buy that and get a custom made one is if i wanted lets say 3 or 4 hids in a single headlight for super brightness like the Chrysler 300 in the island movie LOL

@tristincole07 my point is he made a vid called (How to build HID projector headlights) the key word HID projector he should have called it how to glue HID projector onto a reflector headlight
Not really a fail as there are many vehicle applications that either do not have a projector replace ment or are way too expensive, as in my Bronco II. I modded an it worked out awsome
yes i do. i use to do crap like this when i was 16 but when u have a real job time is money and its not worth my time to do this id rather pay someone. needless to say i bought my projectors. neat craftsman ship though
interesting video, but man that music track was awsome! What artist made this track? It reminds me of Dj Brian who made the Hardesertrance albums for Moonshine records.
so let me get this straight??? this is only if they dont make Projector assemblys for your vehicle right?? cuz they make pre made assemblys for my vehicle already??
this is to make it looks like its an OEM part. because the projectors you find on ebay, if your car does not come with HID's they will be a standard bulb, so you do this and get the HID and the OEM look, because most of the projector head lights look ricy anyways
Great vid. Should remind everone to were gloves and mask when cutting Reflecter. Those type of reflecters are made of fiberglass and a mix of plastic and aluminium.
Oh and from the looks of it Great Work on the Headlights.
I am going to start mine, but I think I am going to build my Own Circuit for the HID and I am going to Use Projector Bulb Lenses from Actual NEC Brand Projectors, "WT61LP NEC LCD Projector Lamp"
Yes I know there for a projector, We use several of theses my my Work. Im talking about the Housing that they come in, taking the bulb out which I have and using housing of the light bulb. It has a projector lens like this one in the video only much smaller. I want to use this size along with a larger size.
That's still not going to work well. The projectors they use in cars have a metal shield inside the housing to provide a "cut-off" for the light at a certain point in height. The projectors you're looking at using do not, which means that you either have to engineer and put one in, or you're going to really blind people when you go down the road. What you are thinking of using is a completely different animal than what goes into a headlight in a car.
Also, since the projector you're looking at using doesn't use an automotive style Xenon bulb, the light output may not be the same, since the center of the light may be spaced differently in the reflector in the projector bowls. Just because it has a focusing lens similar to an auto projector lens doesn't mean they will work any where close to the same. It's also the same reason that HID's suck in regular reflector style automotive headlights. But whatever. Re-invent the wheel if you must.
hid's suck in regular headlamps are you fucking retarted? my 8000k HID conversion kit is 10x better than Sylvania Silverstars, which are 10x better than stock
No, I'm not retarded. You are illegal as hell, and blinding the shit out of oncoming vehicles. It's something called glare. It's better for you, yes. Better for other drivers, no.
Very good work, but one concern is how you expect the projectors to stay true to the reflector if it is only secured using silicone? I just question it's ability to withstand years of driving vibration, forces, and heat cycles. Any insight?
Yes, you may use a dremel if you'd like, but no matter what, you still need to use aluminum tape in order to keep the heat from effecting your custom shroud, as well as the chrome on the shroud if you go that route.
Breaking the pieces off is very safe (if you have done is as many times). Using a dremel; the disk may break and scratch the chrome bowl, the lens, the dust from the disk may also scratch the bowl if you are not careful.
@IznTrblInc hey, what type of plastic / gauge of perspex should i use? i am keen to try! thanks
@every one - these lights can be salvaged from a r32 etc even some vans and the HID kits are all over ebay, will link u my efforts...(multi coloured corner LED indicator & HID ae86 levin lights...)
Can't picture it in my head how you used the clamps to make sure that the projector didn't move while the siicone dried. As far as I can tell it is just clamped on to the back of the projector and nothing else. Anyone??
It is to cover up the housing of the projector (so when someone looks at the headlight, all they see is the lens and not the work that it took to put the projector in there. Like the hole in the back of the reflector and silicone)
2, dull it down just a bit so it's not absolutely blinding to others
3, possibly to keep dust and such off the projecter lens itself, yet again i'm GUESSING i've never done ANY HID work. i'm watching these to see if i should pay the shop 50 dollars to do it or not *i'm thinking yes* lol
everything was nice and clean ... done right until you pryed it off with the pliers..i would have used a dremel to cut that off. you using fx35 bi-xenon..
just my 2 cent. nice job though! i like how you used the plastic to make sure to level the reflector. thats one of my weak points.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ruined two things and ended up with one. Too expensive in my oppinion :) of course there are people that can't buy the cheap aftermarket projector headlights, but i think you'd have to be stupid or desperate to do this...
I have glass cover o my headlights and I want sheer plastic cover. I have untypical car and nobody have this headlights so I must make it. May I do it by yours method with acrylic sheet? And how about thickness of acrylic sheet may I use? THX and sorry I am not good in English
Cover with aluminium tape to stop the heat getting out. hahaha, you amateur. Why does the lamp need to retain heat? It doesn't. The fact is you broke it and you had to tape the hole up to stop water getting in.
Like you say, take your time, what are you using grips for, just use a Dremmel or something.
It is advisable to use aluminum tape to cover the hole after breaking (or cutting with a dremel) to keep the heat from escaping from the concentrated spot. By doing so will keep the heat from damaging the custom ABS or acrylic shroud you have made, as well as the paint that is applied to the custom shroud you have made. This is EXTREMELY important to do if you have your custom shroud chromed due to the heat will turn the chrome yellow.
question. how were headlights sealed? is it one of those impossible to take off hella lealants? i had to do retro on my friend SRT-4 and couldnt take headlight apart with just heatgun, we gave up and did it with his aftermarket headlights.
my accord headlights are sealed with just regular selant that easily melted with heatgun. i wana try to use oven method with my fx35 headlights that i have to take apart since i dont care if it messes up housing
I ponder exactly where the improper sort of comments are.

Breaking the pieces off is very safe (if you have done is as many times). Using a dremel; the disk may break and scratch the chrome bowl, the lens, the dust from the disk may also scratch the bowl if you are not careful.
Do as you wish. Have fun, and be safe. :)

Can't picture it in my head how you used the clamps to make sure that the projector didn't move while the siicone dried. As far as I can tell it is just clamped on to the back of the projector and nothing else. Anyone??

Hello, what is the projector that you used in this video?? where i can find it??
thanks
pedrito0906 2 years ago
I've watched this a few times and I can't figure out what is the purpose of the shroud over the lens.
hutchinsg 2 years ago
It is to cover up the housing of the projector (so when someone looks at the headlight, all they see is the lens and not the work that it took to put the projector in there. Like the hole in the back of the reflector and silicone)
andres220 2 years ago
my guess is,
1, protect the VERY sensitive HID bulb,
2, dull it down just a bit so it's not absolutely blinding to others
3, possibly to keep dust and such off the projecter lens itself, yet again i'm GUESSING i've never done ANY HID work. i'm watching these to see if i should pay the shop 50 dollars to do it or not *i'm thinking yes* lol

everything was nice and clean ... done right until you pryed it off with the pliers..i would have used a dremel to cut that off. you using fx35 bi-xenon..
just my 2 cent. nice job though! i like how you used the plastic to make sure to level the reflector. thats one of my weak points.

ruined two things and ended up with one. Too expensive in my oppinion :) of course there are people that can't buy the cheap aftermarket projector headlights, but i think you'd have to be stupid or desperate to do this...

Cover with aluminium tape to stop the heat getting out. hahaha, you amateur. Why does the lamp need to retain heat? It doesn't. The fact is you broke it and you had to tape the hole up to stop water getting in.
Like you say, take your time, what are you using grips for, just use a Dremmel or something.
selfsilent 2 years ago
