  • @manateeak i do believe our space concerning what is considered semi pro and expert is small these days. d7000 is all we want. go to... freedslr . com remove spaces and try to get an opportunity to win a new Nikon D7000

  • Reviews by 'Shiny Shiny' make me laugh. The presenters clearly have no experience with the product before their told to review it. It seems a case of "here's a camera, it does this, this and this, now review it...go!"

  • The reason there's no top LCD like more expensive Nikon SLRs is because it's an entry-level, consumer (that's right, not pro) DSLR...

  • @NotTheMusicMan Just because it's not a pro DSLR doesn't mean you can't get pro quality images for it. The reason you pay more for a "pro" camera is easy access to all the manual controls. Even pros use cameras like these when they need something smaller and more light-weight while still getting the same results, because they know what they're doing.

  • i have this camera for about 6 months now...and i am in love with this camera....its simply superb....its like a magical wand....easy to learn and hard to live without....i recommend it to all who are skeptical in buying this camera...

  • soo i want to get the d5000 but i dont know anything about cameras n photos but i really want one but i have a problem can some one help me on this ?

  • i won't ever share my d5000 with anyone of my family. Enough Said.

  • I'm getting one tomorrow with the kit lens and the AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II lens. Anything useful to know about that lens?

  • This camera is perfect for beginners im totally geting one for my birthday nearly saved up enough money for one

  • is he an idiot. why would they put him in a review??? he knows nothinig about photography! hes talking down on an amazing camera. its not a family camera!

  • Family cameras are $13, available at Walmart. When you done shooting, you take the film out and process it.

This is not a family camera unless you don't mind your kids dropping a $600 camera on the floor.

  • Agreed, there is nothing "family camera" about any of Nikon's DSLRs.

This camera is part of the Nikon family, however, and produces the same results as the models above it in the hands of a skilled photographer. I greatly enjoy seeing photography gain popularity, however, nothing bothers me more than someone buying one of these cameras and NEVER leaving the 'green full auto' mode and NEVER taking the lens off the mount, yet, I see this ALL the time. For a "family camera" just get a Polaroid.

  • @stupidstupidfish thank you! i was thinking the same thing.

  • nikon's FIRST FAMILY DSLR? its somewhat degrading. how bout D3000?

  • best review!

  • It's a little too heavy for my test. Other than that... I don't know why I can't like this camera. I'm right now thinking of 550D and D5000...

  • You said auto focus while videoing.

IT Doesn't have AF while videoing regardless of the lens used.

  • bro best review of the camera, very good overview... while the others spend hours saying bullshit

  • i hope they did a better job on the scene select mode than on compact digital camera's because most of the time wen u try to use them its like trying to fit 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag, it just dosent work

  • "The autofocus works really well in hd video shooting" you say? I didn't think it HAD AF when filming.

  • It doesn't have AF in video. It is strictly Manual focus in video.

  • @therandygoat

I think with an AF built in lense will make autofocus work while videoing?

Not sure ...actually of what i said.

  • Perhaps. Too bad I don't have one of those :)

  • Comment removed

  • too bad the viewfinder is SO SMALL

  • like your DeeeeeeeEk

  • Ya I'm a begginer and i bought this camera and the Tamron 18-270 lenses and I enjoy it because it's easy for a begginer like me to use and has many nice features, maybe it can shoot vids at only 24fps but it's already great for a camera like this. So this camera and the Tamron 18-270 lenses make a perfect machine and at an affordable price!

I bought it and it's great, I love it! If u buy it, u won't regret that later on, really, trust me! :D

  • Do the Tamron lens have the VR function?

  • @pugi050 Yep, all the tamron lenses have the VR

  • Watch My Nikon D5000 Video TESTS , Thanks

  • this camera covers all the big features for beginners ... within a good price .. !!

1st of awl its DSLR, 2ndly 12.3 mega.., 4 fps multi shot.. HD movie recording .. with same resolution/pixels as D90 gives .. , ISO upto H1 .. i am beginner nd not know in depth .. but what else a beginner more want ? =s

and plz confirm me .. does its body fits all the NIKON lens ? m searching this on google but not understandin this the way every 1 describe on internet .. ! plz reply ... sum 1 .. THNKS

  • @movania89

only AF-S lens are compatable with this camera... and there are 131 lenses in the market... I'm a beginer too and I don't know much,...I think some other lens can fit on this camera too but WILL NOT AUTO FOCUS unless the lenses are AF-S

  • @HatroVille well thanks for you reply .. i have just watched out my comment time and its 6 months gone 0.0 nd i am still looking out for a good lens :S, somebuddy is recommending me sigma, temeron, but i want to buy orignal nikon tht is too expensive :S

  • @movania89

I don't know how much is expensive for you. but yes Lenses can get really pricy... that is why I'm still deciding if I really should get into photography.

How about the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 ... It's good for it's price. and I guess you obviously know what the f number does... so u know this lens is a good buy.. I think it's probably $200 USD

I'm might decide on getting Canon 550D since I can get the cheap 50mm F1.8 lens ($100)

  • o_O. This DSLR is, like any camera, what the photographer makes of it. Calling it a "Family" camera is demeaning for this piece of kit. A "Family" camera is a point and shoot piece of junk. SLR's are for photography, not childs play. I love the D90 and this camera... but it is in no way a "family" camera, unless of course you plan to shoot in Auto mode like a philistine.

  • You first say how it's not the camera it's the photographer and then you shit on point and shoots. lol. Fail.

  • Ah, Do you count Photographers as people who use point and shoot "coolpix"?, I certainly don't. Show me anyone who can take a good picture with minimal control of a point and shoot, they are -not- camera's.

  • You forgot to curse!

  • @Nukturnuz

After reading all the reviews over the past few days I placed my order from Costco

Yesterday , Heck from all the great videos on YouTube I already know how to use it

Before I even get it ) Nice camera ! Very nice

  • @Unstepped hahaha yeah i agree i own the d5000 and i love it ! some day ill jump into a higher camera but ill probably stick with nikon.

  • @Unstepped By family camera, he means it is usable by everyone.

Kids, for pictures they might want to take for example, of the pets.

Mum, for pictures with friends, and Dad for more serious pictures.

  • @ultrakillertoast

Because dads are the only ones who take care of the serious stuff, right?

  • my favourite DSLR...

  • is the Nikon D5000 good ? please reply this ! Thanks .

  • of coz it's good!

  • i dont like the tilting lcd and 2.7 inches only

  • I got one, I love it :D

  • It's good, like any DSLR. If you're asking how good, well, if you need to compare it to similar models of the same price range just check online.

  • great review. thanks.

  • Where's shiny? I am convinced I am getting this camera.

  • Nikons are nice!
