Ian Anderson owns the "downbeat " arrangement. So many of his songs have that solid downbeat [instead of backbeat] style, probably emanating from celtic influence[ I guess]. Easy listeners don't like it when Ian kicks them in the shins and makes you pay attention!
Im 22 and listened to this with my dad when i was a kid. Now i understand why he listened to it. Music back then is so much than "music" today. I dont understand why more people my age dont listen to JT
@Mortarion89 you will be glad to note ther are loads of us listening to tull, and if i go back a few comments, im sure im going to find some 14yr old kid with they copy/paste "i'm 14 and i like classic rock" closely followed by some current chart music comment ect. but anyway, chin up you are not alone.
a ridiculuosly infectious track ! - like i often say--if you cant dance to this, you're probably dead. As usual, brilliant song crafting from the masters of what I refer to as "uncategorizable" rock (which is what i love about JTull the most !)
My early years of Rock was inspired by Tull. I got me a Bundy flute, had it electrified and plugged it into an amp and jammed with high school friends. Those were the days!!
Yep, this song souds like it was written this year, with regards to the state of the world... I'd like to dedicate THIS song to "President" Obama... and, I'd like to dedicate FOREIGNER'S "Blinded By Science" & "Cold As Ice" to Al Gore...
@biffmercury I totally agree with that...things were bad back then, but not NEARLY as bad as they are now...this song needs to go back into radio airplay, because it speaks the damn truth...I'm in the deep-freeze with the rest of the country and i'm barely making it...
Amen, when i hear this song, it makes me not only think of our present economic struggle, but it also reminds me of those that preceded it, and it somehow comforts me, a buttress against the coming storm, a bolstering tune to the will and fortitude we need to see it through!
@Redveg993 How right you are - people never learn! It was true in '82, before and ever since - people should listen more to Tull rather than the "brainwashing government lackies" (to quote form an earler song of his).
thanks for posting!, i originally bought this album when i was 12 cause i liked the album jacket, then i listened to it and became an instant Tull fan
I'm glad you're a Tull fan and I shall enjoy for your beautiful posted songs. Peter Hammill (VDGG) and Jethro Tull are my preferences in progressive rock music. And Radiohead, too.
the cover is OKAY, but shouldnt have more views than this.

Broadswored and the beast is easily their most unerrated album. Most don't even give post-70s tull a chance.

Had to listen to the Northern Kings cover. It's ok but total CRAP compared to this.

@FanMusicReal true,true...the sheer musicianship of Tull is awfully hard to approach, and lesser groups should just leave classics alone.

My all-time favorite Tull track. Saw them live in Chicago in 1984; great show, but will always be disappointed they didn't play this one.

Northern Kings did a wicked cover of this song

To me, this is one of the best albums ever made. I don't know why it's not seen as a classic in America.

this song came out in 1981 or 82 but seems like it was written in anticipation of 2009. Thanks for posting this.

Scarily relevant to the present day. Globally we have "fallen on hard times", and who in power will tell us the truth?

In America, the only one we got is Ron Paul, and he's just a mere Congressman.
In England, it's that European Parliamentarian who recently gave Gordon Brown a dressing down in Brussels.
Don't know about other countries and I wish I did.
