  • my fav beat track love the sax

  • sons of anarchy p

  • 1957 for me...

    Timing IS everything!

all those bands you listed had their day!

  • @ThrowMeAPillow ....Classic "Style" has no boundaries: only human consciousness! Dont limit yourself!

  • It is sad, but true that the 'English Beat' didn't really write their own music. Andy Williams performed this particular song, when the 'English Beat' members were toddlers and Andy may have been doing a cover of it, anyway. I also have Andy's recording on vinyl released in 1963!

  • Amazing song!!!!!!

  • Son's of Anarchy brought me here too..wow..such hatred towards us..why?I love the entire world..I love America..because if it wasn't for America..I would not be here today..My family fled Europe, they had too..I love England..hating on people..shame on you all..Peace and love..and God bless your souls..

  • how come the beatles were called the beatles..and .NOT the ENGLISH beatles...probably because a couple of them chose to live there!!!

  • @robinalanson67 The Beatles should have been called the 'Dung Beatles'. Gawd!!! I HATE their 'music'! Give me the Rolling Stones, David (Jones) Bowie, the Animals, the 'English Beat', 'The Who', etc., but keep 'The Beatles'!

  • @SteveLLW NOT to argue... just curious... In which year were you born? Are you looking BACK at the Beatles or was that valid opinion you expressed contemporaneous? sincere question. Surely the Stones Animals etc were straight ahead Rock... the Beatles were NOT. I agree, They were about harmonies... but; they WERE a sort of bridge, though, weren't they? from Andy Williams era to the Rock era? thanks.

  • @ThrowMeAPillow 1961. I remember hearing a lot of "get the Beatles back together" stuff in the 1970's. The Stones & Animals were definately R&B rooted. The Who was just plain crazy (in a good way). David Bowie's music starterd out in the R&B realm. The Beetles (to me) are just plain boring. They just happened to strike a nerve in the US right after the JFK assasination (my mother's view) and woke the US out of an "emotional funk" at the time (just lucky timing) I REALLY like the Yardbirds, too!

  • they are THE BEAT they are THE ENGLISH BEAT

    doesn't matter what their called

    CLASS IS CLASS

ohh to be back in my Coventry youth

  • @sexyshazzam12 What's in a name, old chappie? Too rye ay and toodle oo top of the jolly old morning to you. They will always be The English Beat, ad they cashed the cheques for the albums sold under that name over 'er in America, wot?

  • it pisses me right off "the Beat" are only recognised as the "english beat" credit where credits due, almost probably one of the best bands ever to come out of "england"......and get this, my spell checker has a problem with "england" and "english".............get a grip world! .....that is all!

  • @TheEllaine67 Ive always known them as The Beat, f**k this americanism, they are from my home town 'Birmingham' and I will always know them as 'The Beat'!!!!!

  • @sexyshazzam12 You are correct; they are from Birmingham, Alabama and started out as, "The Beat". They just aquired the name, "English Beat" after affecting silly pseudo "English accents". They are a great "Southern Fried Rock" band right up there with the Allman Brothers and are as Southern as NASCAR racing and fried chicken. Whoooo Hoooo!!!!

  • @SteveLLW Are you on drugs? They're from England, unless this an attempt at humor. If so, you failed.

  • @Thathoodwink Humor is for smart people. So sorry that you don't qualify. LOL!!!! By the way; who gives a shit where they're from or what the band name is? I just like their music.

  • @SteveLLW Oh, I'm sorry...there are so many arse-wipes online that I didn't realize that you were one of them. Thanks for clearing that up, Prince Charming.

  • @Thathoodwink "Prince Charming" doesn't exist. OMG!! I'm sorry to burst your bubble. :-(

  • @SteveLLW Wow, your humor is so original, and very cutting, too. Boo. Hoo.

  • @Thathoodwink I can't offer a tissue to wipe away your sniffles, but I can offer hope for you; Prince Harry is still single....sorta.... ;-)

  • @SteveLLW Prince Hot Ginge?

  • @SteveLLW LOL

  • sons of anarchy brought me here lol

  • Appreciated in Holland too !

  • i dedicate this song to my beloved suzuki rf 900 rr. sold and sadly missed!!!

  • One of 2 great covers on that album!

  • Oh mother put the kettle back and crack open the rich tea biscuits!!

What a bonkers banging tune that was originally written about the family who were addicted to playing "Hide and Seek" and they became so good that by the time they finally found their youngest daughter after five days she has died of dehydration.

It knocked the stuffing out of them so they wrote this tune about their pain and gave all the money from the sale of the records to their Pub Landlord who was called Barry Tatlock.

  • Top Song ace post

  • tip-top tune, never get tired of hearing this

  • 1:43 can't get loosed to oozing you?

Great tune but. Great sax solo too.

  • im 18 again.....

  • Nice cover

  • i remember this coming out in the spring of 1983 , i'd just turned 20 . i went in to hmv and bought this , boxer beat by jo boxers and our lips are sealed fun boy 3., with some birthday money i had .

  • I shall be seeing these guys perform in London 23rd April.

  • This band's lead singer has a way of reminding me of a certain solo artist from the England of the same era...

  • beautiful remake of the original (1963). I really love this sincopato on major tones. there are a lot of cover based on this lovely music.

  • I'll remember summer '83

  • Driving home from a trip to Devon, lush summers afternoon, this on the radio and me and Dad singing in the worst possible key ever

  • I found this song cuz of Sons Of Anarchy!!

  • My 77-year-old mother-in-law loves this.

  • @owen2760 she still thinks this is andy williams, mate lol

  • Can't beat this

  • awsome tune,sheer music

  • class tune from way back when, right from the heart of the 80's , makes me want to drink a nice ice cold glass of ginger beer!

  • magnificent

  • Absolute supertrack, lots of memories!! The Beat was just....Grtz from Amsterdam..

  • Just beautiful, check out Alton Ellis' version.

  • We never knew how good we had it...!!!!

  • double thumbs up for nice one ♪

  • class act,great vids too.

  • Great sound. Thanks for sharing.

  • love this from robotruss

  • still love em. one of the first albums i ever bought. thanks for posting this.

  • It's funny, but I matured with these song and had to learn that' it's really not useful to swim in pain and compassion...mys friend my father told me a great thing that I am going to tell you know: Girls are like sand on the beach!! Get out and don't forget that, you're still young and use your pain to mature and get in contact with as many people as you can, you never get syick of learining then!!:)

  • Love them

  • great song girl........... Andy williams sang this, didnt he ?. awesome wee Isa

  • @blertoly yeah he did its slower but good.

  • I'm closing my eyes and seeing Daniel Day Lewis licking Omar's neck. Them's was good toimes.

  • Fantastic upload. Great work. And a great song (cover) glad i found it thanks.

  • RUDE BOYS SKA .....pour toujours !!!

from one of the original "Gloucester skins"

would love to hear from the rest of the crew

  • Quality sounds !!

  • brilliant , brilliant tune - excellent memories - wish i could go bck ):

  • @TheKittyshit my sentiments exactly wish i could go back in time to then it all seemed so much better

  • Love this still

  • Great version..no suck!!

  • Now I've heard it all. One of the greatest ballads of the 1960s done with a Reggae beat. Frankly, my dears, it sucks!

  • @bulldogbarks55 It's an intresting rendition. Kind of like the way UB40 did "Can't Help Falling in Love"

  • @ Iluvyousarah

Oh man! My daughter's 13 and I would love it if she'd get into this stuff....

  • @MrFlippertie hahah man im 15 and im lovin this stuff

  • Still breaks my heart that this group broke up. Beat forever!

  • @MrUndersolo still around

  • There's been some great bands from the Brum area over the years,

and The Beat are certainly up there with them.

  • timeless tunes

  • only 1 word 4 this track. classic.

  • I HATED the Beat in the days when they were popular but looking back on it all almost 30 years later, they produced an exceptional version of this Andy Williams classic-in fact i prefer this to the original. Well these gents had a talent after all , shame I missed out at the time-Peter

  • and I say unto you, speak not of the English Beat, for there is none other than the one true Beat ! Wouldst thou speak of the Irish U2, or the Swedish Abba? ;-)

  • Mr. Wakeling and The Beat are coming to Seattle soon - I can't wait!!!

  • They so inspired Vampire Weekend, love it! I love discovering new, older bands.

  • true skinheads never resorted to racism abique988 fact is them handful of racist skinheads never listen reggae or ska music too or went to gigs /ska music is all pressure drop music.

thus being most bands ska and reggae carried colored ppl in them . producing music and songs for the true skinheads and girls to dance to . good point and coment though.thans isabelle87 for the memories

  • Love the SKA beat to this version!

  • when you get best groups of the 80's why does the cheesy bands get there instead of quality ones like the beat

  • It wasn't our (yanks) fault that we called them English Beat. There was a American band by the same name and they had a copyright on "The Beat." On top of that, the American side of their record company released all their albums as The English Beat. One thing we can probably agree on, they were great under any name.

  • a really BEAUTIFUL song, published in 1963; it' so difficult to find good remakes of this asinchronic rithm, but this group was so able to convert the sound into reggae, and it runs very nice! i found italian, german, spanish, english...versions of this hit; i choose John Foster's version and this one.

    ciao from Italy

  • PLAYING AT A CLUB IN LIVERPOOL ON SAT 15TH MAY 2010, THE CLUB IS CALLED THE PICKET OFF JAMAICA STREET.

Levi Tafari, The Beat, Don Letts

  • In the 80's we had to worry about nuclear war, bla bla bla, but times were fun. The 80's were great.

  • The Beat - the best band england forgot it had..!!

    English Beat - fucking yanks..

Only one Beat and it's English !!!

Top tunes top lyrics and a top time....

  • @Chaswhiskey

The trouble with England is: they never appreciate talent until later down the line ie 20 years later......I could think of a particular reggae band from Birmingham who are flying the flag for UK reggae all over the globe yet not one of the socalled radio stations would find time to play one of their classics..Peace

  • @Chaswhiskey go have your rotten teeth fixed.

  • @Chaswhiskey --I think at the time there was a California band called "The Beat" who was around at the same time that "The Beat" from UK came out....so it makes my jaw tight to think that they have to add "English" to their title. I refuse to call them the English Beat!

  • one of the best remakes ever.

  • @loubriel3 Amen !

  • brilliant version of a timeless classic, reminds me of the two tone era, harrington jackets etc

  • I think some got a little carried away with the reverb...or did they record this in an air plane hanger?

  • Tis is a truly great Re-Visioning a of a song that my parents listened to when I was a child! ( By Andy Williams)

It brings back silly memories of dancing in clubs in the 80's.

  • cant forget this one since 1981, good times and a sense of unity... something great happened in those years but sadly appears to be gone. music, as always, changed.

  • wow that was great, always hated to admit i loved that song...

  • Watched them in the Blue Rooms in Hereford ...pure class, awesome night. His son also was singing with them x

  • Lots of bands just go through the motions, not this one. The Beat really enjoy playing which makes their concerts really enjoyable events, even now. Catch one of their gigs if you can, you won't be sorry.

  • QUALITY! The Beat's best song :)

  • Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite song from them... still makes me happy 30 years later!

  • 2nd That Mate - Pure Class - :-)

  • This from the Special Beat Service album btw.

  • This is Ska from the planet Earth!!!

  • They are appearing at the 80's Rewind Festival in August. Just hope they've not lost any of the magic.

  • They haven't! They were fantastic saw them in February.

  • im only 13, yet ive fallen in love with this band! thanks dad!

  • @iluvyousarah I

IM glad that you have found some common ground with your dad, He is a good man, The BEAT are a great band and are worrthy of a chance.

    All the best

    Glen

  • @iluvyousarah ahahahahaha Thanks Dad! Classic!

  • triffic tune, i'm feeling old now though lol .

gonna spend my whole life through , loving this.

  • I was so sad that the Beat didnt play longer, oh and before they came on (it was an outdoor show) I had to explin to some little 7-8 year olds what ska was and how they should like tehis band coming up just as much as I did...they looked at me crazy too.....I admit I was a bit drunk the whole time but it was my B-Day present to myself...

  • @RedBalloon hi there afew year,s back i was in the kitchen making tea an my daughter 9 yr old at the time came in and asked what music i was listening to i told her it was the beat, madness, specials an ipod compilation i did she said it was great cause she could dance to it she,s 13 now and what,s to go to ska twotone night,s night,s with me, her mum hate,s me

  • Later that night at this 80's club I was at the bar feeling sorry for myself when the stupid Shoot that poison arrow song came on and I drunkenly turned to a stranger next to me, with beer in hand said I saw these guys tonight...and they SUCKED She just looked at me like I was crazy.....

  • Anyways I still think this has gotta be one of my favorite songs, although when I saw them (along with ABC) they were gonna take requests and even though I screamed my loudest they didnt play this damn song...Sniff sniff...I was sooo bummed. Then when I realized that the whole place was full of jocks just there to hear ABC cause they heard it on the radio and NOT for the English Beat I was even more sadder.

  • heard this on holiday when i was about 13 at primrose valley, filey, also there was candy girl, buffollo soldier, just what i always wanted, and other songs played, takes me back, all good stuff always.good memories.fantastic song

  • i love this version

  • great track..great version..

  • fun take on the classic A. Williams version

  • the beat ,beat this....goes on and on and on who can beat it?????NO ONE SKA ......

  • If this song was a pile of candy I'd eat all till I got sick and weighed a 1,000 pounds. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE this song!!! I used to walk the streets of Chicago and listen to it and sing super loud and people would stare at me. This is such a perfect yummy song I wish I still had this album....meh!!

  • I love your style man, it's ace when a tune makes you feel like you don't give a toss what people think when your listening to it and singing it out loud. RESPECT and this is one of those tunes.

  • Comment removed

  • i do the same thing, but in ontario, i flippin love this song.

    so please dont eat it...

  • Ah ha I couldnt eat this song.....Its too important to me and the to the rest of the Beat peoples....

Oh can someone answer me this....For such a good band why on earth do they get stuck playing small gigs in odd places? I forget who they're touring with now but before they played Santa Fe at some bar? NO ONE comes to this town......

  • @RedBalloon ,wow ive always said that about music!ive never known a musiceater too, nice one mate ! haha

  • what a classic what a group

  • i can call this a classic, even though i wasn't born when this was made!

  • I was one of the "BEATS" biggest fans back in 1981. I was a "skinhead" a "rude boy" etc. I loved the music and the fact that there was no racism. Unfortunately "SKINHEADS" have become synonimous with racism. It was a time in history when "unity" was rife and ruled. Such a sham eit cant be like that now.
