you can watch a projectile motion program on my channel that automatically does this without determining the angle or the initial velocity. you can download this program on softpedia
gravity acts on it just the same. one happens to be flying away at high speed and ends up hundreds of yards away, but they both drop toward the earth at the same rate. in theory. it works in practice too, but there are obviously variables involved in the practical version that stop it being exactly the same time every time. they did it on that show mythbusters.
@tubestick00 Actually what happens is that when the object is flying away is much more susceptible to air resistance and that most of the times is the reason for the the variations we usually see outdoors with bigger objects. Theoretically, we consider that the only force applied on the object is the gravity which is approximately 9.8 N. But do not forget that if there wasn't air resistance, even a plane or a feather would crash in the ground at the same time and velocity.
@ajudaaduja why did you put the word "actually" at the beginning of that statement? do you realise that implies you are correcting me on a comment which has nothing incorrect in it? your comment says nothing contradicting anything mine originally stated so i suspect your a raging nerd desperate to talk to someone about physics... with no real life friends, you've found satisfaction from elaborating on peoples correct comments online to prove your physics knowledge to strangers you'll never meet.
I think most people should take conceptual physics before you apply mathematics to it (at least for the most part). That way you understand that physics is fun before you know that it's tedious.
a bullet fired from a gun hits the ground at the same time as a bullet dropped from the same height as the barrel of the gun. even though one travels nowhere bown vertically down, and one travels like 1000 yards away.
Naruto: The reason is because the components of the motion of an object (that is, the different directions an object travels in) subject to gravity alone are independent of one another. Thus, the time it takes for both balls to travel in the downward direction is the same, even though the motion of the ball that was shot contains an added direction, say, across the table.
this dude deserve to be my physics teach...not my turkish physics teach that sucks.....she always makes it look like a punishment to learn...been in her class is not fun at all.....look at hw students ar enjoyn a physics class
Everyone deserves a good Physics teacher. I mean, if it weren't for my Physics teacher, I might have HATED the class, but now, I've already signed up for a summer Space Camp! Just take my word for it, don't dislike the class, dislike the teacher, because Physics is AMAZING!! :D I had the same problem you have in Chemistry and I ended up miserable! :( I know how you feel!
Excellent. Hewitt's use of humor and his ability to explain in simple terms make him a great teacher. Example: "Gravity doesn't take a holiday just because an object is moving."
Richard Feynmann disciple.

good video - would be better if he had a student catch each ball after the first bounce...that way, there's only one sound

lol, sorry did i break some untold rule.
I don't see it as a political comment more one on improving education, which in my opinion should be separate of Government
