  • Someone mentioned the cows are supposed to be bred back within a few months after having a calf, to keep them in the "rhythm" of the breeding cycle.

Is this true, or is it stressing the cow too much? We only have two heifers that will be having their first calves and want to do what is best for them.

    Your suggestions would be appreciated.

  • @fortbumper I'm sorry, but I'm not able to answer your question, for I am only the filmmaker. Have you tried searching any documents online? Or maybe a dairy farm forum? Or approach a dairy farmer in your area? Hope you find the answers you're looking for.

  • A very nice farm, and a very nice farmer. Wish more people would use this method of farming.

Don't let anyone convince you that organic/natural farming is no good. Animals and crops are not robots or machines. Neither are they a part of the technology that is helping to destory mankind.

Nature is an ally, waiting to help us if we work with it the way it's supposed to function - Naturally.

  • nice t-shirt :$

    well done rosie!

  • Great vid!

  • awesome!!

  • Nice story but you didn't mention what the cows eat in the winter and where you get it.

  • great video

    beautiful cows. thanks

  • Great farm, lucky animals :)

  • - Julie Daniluk - name will bring up an interesting interview on organics

  • I was making a reply to the user "Stumblefuck." He seems to think that anyone who supports organic products should eat their own shit. I think his user name is spot on... a (dumb) fuck who stumbles (along in life). In other words, a big loser. No offense to anyone else here.

  • medulalumosa, I´m with you all along!!

  • Thanks! :)

  • LOL! great reply

  • yes very good I am turkish in the turkish van özalp

  • Yes Jersey's are so curious. I had two of my own(given to me by Grandpa): Pickles and Sunshine. They were good milkers too. In My neck of the woods, some are milking three times a day. He's right about adding feed to the diet not a good idea. During winter on occasion, my Grandpa added some molasses to the hay with an occasional oat feed to get the girls eating and they loved it. We raised mostly Holstein, and a few Jersey.

  • Hi Farmer Banson and Rosie,

Yeah to all the organic dairy farmers who grass feed their cattle! Makes the milk rich in Omega-3 fatty acids - like getting your fish oil - without the fish!

Organic Valley is an awsome organization but I have to agree with JackNeedles - Raw milk rules!

  • Organic is the right choice!

  • i know ya think yr funny, but in essence it is all part of the organic cycle -- even shit (also known as natural fertilizer) Thx for adding to the confo ;)

  • Awesome!!:) I was wondering if these cows are use for meat?! I hope not :/

  • It was made quite clear that this is a DAIRY farm ... dairy farming and beef farming are entirely different ...

  • once they are used to the point where their milk quality is not up to standard, what happens to them?! do they set it free?

  • No no no. Dairy cattle are for milking only. And generally once they get too old they're retired not eaten.

Meat cattle are steers and yes you can get grass-fed meat as well which is healthier for you (and the cow while they are alive:-)

  • Farmers keep old dairy cows? Most dairies are run as a business and are for profit. They don't just keep cows that don't serve a purpose. Sorry, the idea is nice though. Cows would make great pets!

  • Once dairy cows are too old to be commercially viable they are commonly sold to slaughter for hamburger meat. Look it up.

  • But they have had a happy life. Everyone dies but its what happened when you were alive that counts and they get to live how they are ment to.

  • thats a lie!

they go to slaughter houses once they cant produce milk anymore. dumbass. i live on a dairy farm. we have cow that is 11 years old! thats really old for a cow!!

  • Terrific story! Loved Rosie and the girls, and the Banson family should be very proud of doing the right thing ... for the cows, customers and planet.

Isn't it funny that his grandpa dairy farmed organic too -- just never called it that. We have to stop letting chemical and fertilizer manufacturers sell us on the hype of "better living thru chemistry."

  • Organic RAW dairy is the best.

  • Absolutely! It's the best thing that ever happened to me and now it's even legal in my state! (MA) I hear though it's still illegal in key states like WI.

  • Organic milk!

  • Good Video. Informative.

  • Peace and Love!

  • Beautiful cows.

  • Love healthy food!

    5 stars for sure!

  • I always ALWAYS...Purchase organic dairy. It is soooo much better!

  • I was raise in a farm, and I agree. organic is healthier, for cow and humans...

  • Very nice, thanks for sharing.

  • thank you for sharing this very wonderful video, Hi Rosie

  • lovely operation. i wish all dairy and food animals could be raised like this.

  • I drink organic valley since I found out about Monsanto and this video is nice. Those cows are so cute.

  • I wish there were more organic farmers here in the US, in Europe food tastes better because most of it is raised as organic. Just drive through the French, Italian or German countryside and you will see what I mean. Family owned farms that pride themselves on freshness and flavour. Another dairy like this one is in NJ, the Bobolink Dairy the 1st US cheese maker to export cheese back to European markets. All products are organic and delicious. Keep up the organic life!

  • 134...that's a NY zipcode. Well north of the Catskills. Excellent video - beautiful farm and herd. Rosie's a beauty, alright. Love the pampering she got on camera. :) Is she the lead cow when the herd needs moving?

  • Actually the farm is in Oregon, WhiteTiger333. I'm not sure if she is the lead cow, tho.

  • Rosie is beautiful. I grew up on a farm, this brings back great memories. :) Thank You for another great video!

  • What a dream operation. Great video!

  • Excellent video. How long does the land have to be free of pesticides etc. before one can call the milk organic?

  • I enjoyed this vid....thank you.

  • I see Walmart is suddenly grabbing hold of the organic milk market.

I hope they don't put a strain on these folks who do it right.

  • Wonderful!! Yay for him. If only more dairy farmers, or heck, farmers in general could see this and get away from the poisonous tripe the industry shoves in their face (you need to do it our way or you'll go under and lose everything, you need grain feeds, antibiotics are good for them and us, you have to buy our seed -and oh yeah, you can't save seed for next year because if you do we'll sue you, etc). Like Mr. Bansen here says, "Somewhere we forgot the biology in a biological process."

  • medulalumosa, you are entirely correct, where did we go wrong? oh yea, Suburbs, Wal-Mart, Monsanto, and all those people. Stand-up America.

  • Thanks. You may like the book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" it's really been an inspiration to me. :)
