  • If a big axe fell and split your head in two, you wouldn't be saying much.

  • I'm new to Carlin and he is great from what I seen and heard thus far. However, I feel that by saying that he was the best comedian in the 20th century is ridiculous. His prime purpose wasn't solely to make us laugh in my mind. I feel he wanted us to think more than anything. Most of the time I listen to him I am not laughing. Maybe the best comedian that simply JUST didn't give a FUCK. I appreciate the fact that he stood in front of us and said i don't give a shit about what you think.

  • @TSGS21 thank you, I completely agree 100%

  • @joemanses You welcome. Glad to know someone agrees with my thought. Like me and you Carlin wasn't perfect at all, but if people disagree with many of his views they should at least have to respect his courage to step out of the box and express his feeling about our society. We all have complaints about our society.

  • @joemanses What a fucking coward...you deleted your comments LOL

  • @mbluemyst I deleted them because of a few typos and some other trivial reason. Way to try and ignore the comment I actually did leave, which was practically identical in content to the original. Of course in your tiny brain you're thinking "I'll just ignore his comment and attempt to try and call him out for deleting his comment which totally negates the points he made, herpa derp". Yes, that seems to fall right in line with the level of intelligence you've displayed so far.

  • @mbluemyst I'll just reply to the comment you left in my inbox: And kids, this is a Christian trying to sound intelligent...which is really an oxymoron because you can't be intelligent if you're a Christian. Take care loony.

Well considering I actually said you missed the point in my previous comment, looks like you've confirmed my assessment. Not only that, considering there have been ridiculously intelligent Christians, your comments is still fucking stupid.

  • Fuck Katie Whore-ic and R.I.P. George Carlin

  • Greatest comedian in history, he inspires generations worldwide, cheers from Brazil from probably one of the greatest fans, a true follower of Carlin's philosophy.

  • RIP George Carlin.

  • dude wasn't funny. Maybe in his early years, but from what I've seen of him he was just an angry, bitter old man with a fancy soap box and a couple of recycled jokes.

  • @joemanses

Totally agree. Grumpy, cynical, and a lot less smart than he thought he was.

  • @Iwouldnotbealiar you must be a Christian LOL

  • @joemanses stfu and quit using "dude" to start your sentences you trendy faggot

  • @cheapcape Oh yes, for when someone has absolutely nothing relevant or constructive to say they will most certainly go for the most inexplicably arbitrary thing to criticize. Maybe you should spend more time worrying about you're own retarded ass than talking about how other people start their sentences. Good god. Carlin's fanbase sure isn't the brightest bunch. I kind of get it now. Dude must have been bitter.

  • @joemanses Now what you just said was funny!!! millions of people disagree with you!! What you should say is he wasn't funny to you.

  • @mbluemyst First class, let's look at how Mbluemyst didn't even realize that Joemanses point about atheists was to say that majority rules doesn't always mean the majority is correct because he's too dense to get it. Next let's note inability to come up with an intelligent rebuttal, instead opting for completely baseless ad hominem attacks and unfounded claims. There's a phrase for this kind of person. It's called a "fucking idiot". *points to Mbluemyst for the class*

  • @joemanses to each his or her own. I think he was one of the most astute observers of american society.

  • @tristramshandy3 I'll give you that, he definitely had a unique perspective and a keen eye for bullshit. That being said, he wasn't always correct and sometimes even contradictory, which also made me appreciate him somewhat less.

  • @joemanses well, now we can flush this out and expose someone for being wrong- and I suspect it will be you. WHAT, in your opinion, was Carlin wrong about? HOW did he contradict himself?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

  • @tristramshandy3 Carlin blamed American society for being too consumer heavy and cutting down forests, yet criticized environmentalists for being too ecologically contentious. He also made broad, sweeping generalizations about environmentalists. Made inaccurate claims about the earth, extinction of species, etc. He criticized fat consumers yet he himself got fatter in his later years, though I guess that would qualify as hypocritical. He made a few incorrect statements about religion. etc.

  • @joemanses so there is no room for nuance? You are either against consumerism or environmentalism? I disagree- especially when there is idiocy on all sides. Carlin wasn't ideological or partisan- so he had no allegiance to any one side. His critique of environmentalism in no way conflicted with his critique of over-consumption.

What inaccurate claims did he make about the earth and religion?

I'm not saying the guy was 100% all the time- but he was better than most.

  • It's more about the destruction of the forests than the consumerist attitude. The man was not particularly nuanced and I see that complaint and his rant against environmentalism as starkly contradiction. You can disagree if you want, I don't feel like debating the definition of the word contradiction. The religious thing was like "if you do one of these ten things then you go to hell" when really, Christians believe even a perfect person would go to hell because you're born into sin.

  • @joemanses with all the idiots in the world, for you to focus passion and energy on an intelligent human being like George Carlin seems like a monstrous waste of time. He was a smart man, and there are plenty of VERY intelligent people who thought he was hilarious. I consider myself one of those people.

So, who IS funny? What are some names of comedians that you find funny?

  • @tristramshandy3 lol "VERY intelligent".

You know I actually hadn't really intended to focus very much energy on the man. I merely wanted to see what all the fuss was about (in regards to his popularity), viewed his work, formed an opinion and then expressed it. Unfortunately, that created a chain reaction that cascaded into a flame war of sorts.

As to who I find funny, Izzard is great. Rock is okay. I like Regan's stuff. Seinfeld makes me smile. Peters' stuff is good.

  • @joemanses yes indeed. LOL! How dare I claim myself to be very intelligent. The arrogance. The chutzpah. Those other comedians you name are hacks next to Carlin. But hey, who am I to tell you you're wrong :)

    Have a great life.

I hope you too can become as smart as I am someday.

(read 2,000 books and travel the world- anyone can do it!)

  • @tristramshandy3 Haha, you really are rather arrogant. Well considering Carlin, as a comedian, hardly ever made me laugh, I must disagree with you. Brilliant social commentator != brilliant comedian. Also, some of those other comedians I mentioned are pretty well respected, so I think your opinion might be a wee bit biased. Martin, Willaims and pryor are good too.

Also, I HIGHLY doubt you're smarter than me in the areas which I excel. Intelligence isn't some single faceted quality, lol.

  • @joemanses pot calling kettle- kettle, white courtesy phone.

  • @tristramshandy3 pot calling pot perhaps, lol. Also, I find it interesting how you can be two colors at once.

  • @joemanses maybe I am arrogant, but I worked HARD to get where I am in life, and perhaps pride is a foolish thing, but I am proud of my accomplishments, and the person I am.

Like I said, if you took the time and put in the work to read thousands of books and travel the world, you TOO could be a very intelligent, thoughtful human being.

    Good luck!

  • @tristramshandy3 haha, again, single faceted references to intelligence. It's not that simple. I'm a rather brilliant artist and story teller. That is one facet of intelligence (well, several, really). I have been called a genius because of how good I am at what I do (comics). Of course, I'm not a genius (at least not according to the stanford-binet intelligence scale), but I think it's foolish to limit one's self by saying you either are smart, or you aren't. There's more to it than that.

  • @joemanses I'm concerned far less with intelligence than with wisdom; which is why I've studied philosophy and literature.

    Have a great day/week/month/life.

    Viva Montaigne

(his book "The Complete Essays" is the greatest thing ever written!)

  • @tristramshandy3 oh yes, the man of a million aphorisms.

  • @joemanses look, you can insult me all you want; but when you rip on my man Montaigne, I get pissed. Step off bleach!

"Most men lead lives of quiet desperation" -Thoreau

"A light heart lives long" -Shakespeare

"The more we enlarge our needs and possessions, the more do we expose ourselves to the blows of fortune and adversity" -Montaigne

"Oh what a mean and abject thing is man if he does not rise above humanity" -Seneca

  • @tristramshandy3 watchu talkin' bout', Willis? I like Montaigne. He does have like a million aphorisms, lol.

  • @joemanses Cool. For some reason, I interpreted your remark as an insult. I retract my response :)

  • @tristramshandy3 np, I thought that was the case. Believe it or not, but I've read quite a bit of philosophy myself. However, most of it is relating to Buddhist, Taoist and Hindu philosophers than somewhat more contemporary western philosophers.

  • @joemanses is Montaigne contemporary? You know he lived in the 1500's right? Taoism is cool. Buddhism ain't too bad either- they're certainly far more tolerant and enlightening than western religions.

    Adios.

  • @tristramshandy3 more contemporary than most early eastern philosophy. I was speaking comparatively. Also, western religions have some invaluable philosophy of there own. The excellent financial principles outlined in the Bible, for instance, would have done the American economy a world of good if people actually followed them. People give the Bible too much flack because they analyze it more deeply. there's some crazy stuff in ALL eastern religions too. babies and bathwater.

  • @joemanses morer contemporary than most early western philosophy too, but hardly considered contemporary today.

MOST of the good stuff in western religion comes from the east anyways- including the treat your neighbor as yourself golden rule (Confucius).

The excellent financial principle outlined in the new testament is communism- rich people cannot get into heaven, and from each according to their ability, to each according to their need.

    Christianity and capitalism are opposites.

    Adios.

  • @tristramshandy3 that's why I was speaking comparatively. It's is MORE contemporary because it is closer modern day. Also, The Book of Leviticus was written around 1400 B.C. (the origin of the phrase) and Confucius wasn't even born until 551 BC. You're straining your credibility here. Same goes for claiming the financial principles outlined in the Bible are communistic simply for taking a passage out of context. There are far more concrete passages than vague metaphorical correlations.

  • @joemanses I stipulated the New Testament- which the star of the show, Jesus H. Christ, owns no possessions other than his clothing, and gives away a surplus he creates to the needy. He is the very personification of the communist creed: from each according to their ability, to each according to their need.

Jesus H. Christ was a commie.

And I will never understand how so many people claim to be followers of his, while at the same time claiming to be capitalist. The two are irreconcilable.

  • @tristramshandy3 Well I'm talking specifically about the excellent financial principles outlined in the Bible. Just because you have some hang up thinking that Jesus not wanting to tie himself to superficial objects and found altruism to be a beneficial way to live somehow translates to him preaching that one should never acquire any financial means beyond what is strictly necessary doesn't somehow negate them.

  • @tristramshandy3 For the record, Jesus did believe in giving everything you could and encouraged people to do so, it was the personal choice that was involved in such a decision, however, that makes me question your communist claim. I'll recognize the socialistic leanings there, but I'm certain you're oversimplifying the issue. Perhaps I'll read into it more.

  • @joemanses also, I don't enjoy being told I'm straining my credibility by a man who claims to be a master, brilliant, published author- but won't share his name.

    Check the mirror bro :)

  • @tristramshandy3 more fallacious reasoning. I merely made a claim, whether you choose to accept that claim or not is entirely up to your discretion, but I have said nothing that untrue. You made a blatantly false claim, however, which I have proved to be false. Which you have so conveniently decided to gloss over despite priding yourself on your extensive literary knowledge. I dislike people who don't acknowledge their own mistakes.

  • @joemanses oh NOOOOOOO!!!!!! trash talking idiot on youtube doesn't like me. OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • @tristramshandy3 wow, that's extremely mature. For all you wisdom, you're really staring to sound like a fool. Nice tu quoque fallacy, btw. Ad homenims are fun too. I guess the amount of maturity required to admit you made a mistake was a bit too much to ask. Also, calling me an idiot when you have no proof of such isn't very logical either.

  • @tristramshandy3 I guess I should rephrase that last part. People often give the Bible too much flack when they analyze it with a harsh, critical eye because they're usually more intimately familiar with the negative aspects of Western Religion and the somewhat perverted forms it has taken over the centuries. There is valuable stuff in there, though. Thou shalt Love thy neighbor as thyself are seriously words to live by in a modern context (globally that is). it's so simple yet so rare.

  • @joemanses the bible is bullshit and anyone that believes in it is a fool. Have a great day/life!

  • @tristramshandy3 wow, what a pointed an highly analytic critique. I especially like how you're suddenly talking about people who believe in the Bible when I made no mention of any spiritual teachings whatsoever, merely the very wise financial and social proverbs espoused throughout. Good times.

  • @tristramshandy3 I'm sorry, I made a mistake to think you were one of the few rational, respectable people on youtube. Turns out you're just another immature child with a fancy hat who feigns objectivity to cover for his irrationally biased views and paranoia. If your slow degeneration into a more foul temperament is any indication as to where this conversation is going, I'd rather not be a part of it. I have no need for another name calling match, have a nice life. /block

  • @tristramshandy3 also, yeah, I'm a total hypocrite to say that while I'm insulting dude's intelligence and trolling on other vids, BUT that doesn't make it any less true. lol.

  • @joemanses you're a brilliant artist and storyteller? COOL! Where can I buy your published works?

  • @tristramshandy3 You can buy my published works at a Barns an Nobles, Amazon.com, most other comic outlets, etc.

  • @joemanses under what name? Joemanses?

  • @tristramshandy3 haha, no. I'd prefer not to randomly give my real name out on the interwebs, thanks.

  • @joemanses and I'll prefer to believe you are not published. If you really are, share your name. The people who read this will want to buy your stuff. Otherwise, you're full of %$#@.

    Take care.

  • @tristramshandy3 well that's an either or fallacy right there, bro. "either share your name or you're definitely full of shit". haha, if only the world were that easy, eh? But I guess nothing is more firmly believed than what we least know. Also, I highly doubt sharing my name in a video where I'm expressing a view that is contrary to popular opinion will do a whole lot to boost my sales. Though it might give people a good reason to associate me with everything I've said under this name.

  • @joemanses i'll just take your word that your a brilliant storyteller :) Too bad I'll never be able to confirm that nonsense.

I'm the best poet in the United States (possibly the world)

Unfortunately, I can't share my name with you, so you will never be able to buy my books.

    Have a great day!

  • @tristramshandy3 calling it nonsense is, again, a fallacy. You not believing me does not equate to a definitive conclusion. Even if you are an excellent poet, I'd respect your privacy in not wanting share your name pseudonym you might have said some regrettable things under. However, I'd have to question your reasons for bringing it up. I was simply using my personal life for the sake of an example. You're just telling me for no reason. Seems kind of pointless, but whatever.

  • @tristramshandy3 ^Barnes and Nobles, lol

  • @tristramshandy3 however, I like how you say you worked hard to get where you are. I really do. The way you feel intelligence is a malleable thing isn't something I see enough of. Of course, your brain develops the most before the age of 21 or so, but one can really continue gaining intelligence throughout their entire life, especially if they nourish of every aspect of their person (at least I believe so). Regardless, I'm sure you're a smart guy, but there's no need to be patronizing.

  • @tristramshandy3 most importantly, if you agree the man wasn't right 100% of the time, than we're in agreement. Yes, no one is perfect, and I'm not saying the guy was a total buffoon throwing his crap at people. It's just that I found him so unfunny that the little mistakes he made stuck out more when I listened. Every comedian makes false/fallacious claims. Also, there's a difference between not wanting to debate and not wanting to debate with a fanatic. You seem reasonable enough, though.

  • @tristramshandy3 honestly though, I'm not doing this, I'm too tired of arguing with you people. And you're too damn ready to jump on Carlin's dick. It makes me sick.

  • @joemanses so you put forth your arguments, then say you don't want to argue. How open-minded of you. I am no sycophant. I do not worship Carlin or think he's infallible. But in my experience listening to him, he was SPOT-ON about American society- our militarism, our ubiquitous ignorance, and our hypocrisy.

He ranks up there with Chomsky as an important voice of dissent in a time of Orwellian obedience.

    Have a great day!

    It's good to be alive.

  • @tristramshandy3 don't try and hang on the religion thing either, I mean little things that are more semantics. I'm NOT going to turn this into a fucking religious debate. Of course I'm not going to debate with you at all, but all you Carlin fans seem to LOVE to go straight to religion even when nobody fucking brings it up or attempt to claim your opponent MUST be religious if they don't like Carlin. Some fallacious bullshit like that.

  • @joemanses me thinks thou doth protest too much. Insecure this morning?

  • @tristramshandy3 how does me clarifying what I meant qualify as insistent protest of an intention towards religious debate to the point of garnering doubt about my claim? Oh wait, you probably just misused to phase. Good bye.

  • are you religious? If so, what religion?

  • this man WAS Jesus

  • lol this country was founded by slave owners who told us that all men are created equal, absolutely brilliant.

  • CAN YOU SEE THE EYE OF MESSIAH OR ANTI CHRIST ON CBS LOGO !?

MASONIC / JEWISH FREAKIN TV !

  • gb ghbhgbgfffffffffffffffffs

  • A Tribute For George that is 3:32...Was 5:00 to much for you CBS PPL....

    -Fucking Assholes!!

  • Some people have to write themselves into history ,for George Carlin history was written for him .

  • The sixty people that dislike this are fucking bitches. When they read this, they will be highly offended, because that's what they are good at.

  • @youthfulwarring89 Why? Because you don't allow them the right to have their own opinion? Isn't that against what your man Carlin believed in?

  • In 1967 I would have never thought that would be him :D

  • @SpadeGrenadeKO

Don't say "we miss you". I don't miss him.

Why should we miss him? You're acting as if he was dead. Sure, George Carlin the man died, because men die, but legends do not.

George Carlin is still relevant and present. Don't go around missing him.

  • @BohemianBlasphemy Well said.

  • @BohemianBlasphemy He is only truly dead, if he is forgotten.

  • @BohemianBlasphemy I like your point!

  • Bible raises it's ugly biased head again. Here's something for ya... Adam's first wife was Lillith... incest HAD to have happened (Adam and Eve's grandchildren came from ??? )... there was a race of Giants (not NY or San Fran)... and the "Let US make Man on OUR image".... not "me in my image." What's that all about ?

And here we go with the brainwashed responses. And yes I went to Catholic school for 6 years... so I know from whence I speak.

  • @TacomaPaul If you went to Catholic school for 6 years, you probably know nothing of whence you speak. And for starters, When God said "Let us make man in our own image," He is referring to God the father , The Son & Holy Spirit.

  • @garyjagels1 for starters... there is no god

  • @TacomaPaul Just get over it man. Live and let live. What happens after death isn't important, what's important is how are world is going into shit.

  • @TacomaPaul Nobody said that Adam and Eve were the first man and women to be created (this was simply inferred since the Bible does not talk about any other people). My proof Genesis 2 verse 7 (NIV) "The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being".

  • @Death1458100 are you fucking crazy?

  • @petermouse420 I have been called that a couple times but do you think I am crazy if so please explain.

  • @Death1458100 its because only a crazy person would believe that genesis was write by anything other than another human being trying to gain power by lying to stupid people.

  • @petermouse420 Hay I was making mister 6 years in Catholic school look like a moron.

  • @Death1458100 please don't tell me you're a grown man. get your shit together man

  • I used to do the "Hippy Dippy Weatherman" routine in front of the class in 9th grade in early 70s. Thanks george for the girls ! ;-)

  • @MartyJSwizzle i'm really sorry man. But i said that out of memory and it i didn't memorise the verse. I would've preferred to give you the exact details, but m using my cell to access the net and it's insane to have to research the net with this. Plus, i don't have a bible on me. As i remember it, these tribes people were not happy with the responsibilities they were assigned and wanted to communicate with God themselves instead of through Moses. It happens very soon after that.

  • i'm kinda disappointed by this piece CBS had done on Carlin. To people who don't know the complete jokes that they showed bits off, i doubt they would've found it amusing.

  • @MartyJSwizzle you haven't read the bible. Specifically, the old testament. Chapter-Numbers. What god does to one of the tribes that accompanied Moses. He personally annihilated them sending them to hell. That's just one of the numerous examples.

But don't worry. You're not alone. Most believers are just as wilfully ignorant as you. You could try reading more of the bible that you're supposed to, if you want to understand the mentality of the God you worship.

  • @anandjohnson86 - I can't seem to find what you are talking about. Can you give me a chapter in Numbers?

  • THe BEST - 4 Groups that Gotta Go - George Carlin

  • @MartyJSwizzle smarter doesnt make you better

    chickens dont judge

    chickens dont hurt

    chickens dont steal

and god is an ancient superstition who sends u to burn for eternity if u dont agree with him

ya and humans are animals u fuckin inbred

  • @MartyJSwizzle Are u iz retarded?

  • @MartyJSwizzle I really hope you're trolling.

  • @MartyJSwizzle Where did you read chickens were made by water?

  • @sumdingo - My bad, I meant from the ground. Genesis 2

  • @SpadeGrenadeKO Thank you for the response. I apologize for getting so salty about it.

  • If you're going to do the Seven Words don't bleep it out. Nobody with a sane mind is going to get mad at you. I've done it several times in school, haven't been punished once.
