Aishwarya Rai's mother tongue is Tulu and she can speak it well. She was brought up in Mumbai, so there is no reason why she should know kannada. I personally think one should know his/her mother tongue and the language of the land they reside in. that's all.
i think abhishek bachchan speaks kannada better than Aishwarya..!!! lol.. :D Its ok.. its up to their interest to learn a language.. We cant force someone on this.. Atleast she tried it to her best.. Lets appreciate them this time, so that they would love to come again and try to give a better speech next time... :))

paper noodkondu oodiddu keevela erad saalu... aduu thappu...when they are invited to such platforms, they have to at least make sure they don't make such blunders...would they make such similar mistake if they go to other countries and and try to speak foreign language???? at least she could have said the chief ministers name properly:) its a shame on our part that these kind of people are invited to where they are totally irrelevant. what if she is a celebrity.. she dont know kannada.!!!
It is so evident that the purpose of this event is lost. I am not sure if organizers had on stage - Arundhati Nag and Girish Kasaravalli who have made incredible contribution in taking kannada plays, films & literature at international level.
But, we have people like Aishwarya giggling around. Forget about whether they have contributed to the growth of Kannada in any way, she is not even able to talk kannada despite of the script being given to her.
