The whole CD--The Way I Feel--actually has a late seventies feel and style to it---which is why I love it. This dude probably could have been a part of that whole neo-soul revival, like with Maxwell, Musiq Soulchild and Jill Scott, if he'd been promoted properly--his CD barely got pushed here in the U.S. when it came out, and I never heard any of his songs on any stations. All his songs would have fit right in on any R&B playlist here in the D. It's a shame he never followed up on that CD,though!
Cool--just listened to this song--it's has an early seventies feel to it---glad I got this CD. Only reason I even know about Mr. Shand's music is when about 10 years ago I walked into a Border's and saw a big poster of him amidst the music section. It wasn't until a couple years later when I heard "Rocksteady" on a Canadian station, liked it,and nabbed the CD. Just started getting into the CD and it grew on me. I wish he could have put out a few singles or two--what happened to him?
That's sick how they rocked a Jamiroquai-esque groove for 9 minutes then flipped it to the melody of the original track. Dude is a legend and is only in his 30s and has only put one album.
Why? Because though now a long time past, I really enjoyed Remy's first album and hoped to see him develop and see if what I first enjoyed was a fluke or not. Would rather know why the music ended rather than speculation, too. Had a similar thing with a band called "Dag", who had 2 albums, both I thought great and was, again, hoping for more but they too just faded away. Oh well...any and all clarifications welcomed!
Unfortunately, Remy's been MIA for years now. Not sure how much to trust what I've read but, if you've ever seen his official "Take a message to my love" video, there's a bandanna'd woman with whom he was in or got into heavily and things apparently went wrong from there, especially for him. I think this might have been a case of someone who cracked under stardom and an emotionally involved relationship. Again, this is based on stuff I've read but can't corroborate so I hope the truth shows.
I'd like to call myself a connoisseur of soul music, but straight up.... Remy is in my top 5 of all time, and he's in his 30s! Think about it. Anyone who appreciates this as much as I do deserves a firm high five or two. True talent folks. Hands down.
thank you so much for this posting, i have been needing a more up to date posting on remy. while its not necessarily new, it is definatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remy is a legend... CLEARY!!! I am so craving some new music from him. He is blue eyed soul at its finest. so much dept...I absolutely adore him in every way.
das ganze album is geil - eins von den wenigen, die man immer wieder, rauf und runter hören kann. musiker wie ihn gibt´s auch viel zu wenige, bzw. werden solche viel zu wenig gefördert.
