I enjoyed this game.  I got as far as the tunnel mission in which Captain Bartlett flies past you in the opposite direction. I kept crashing into the barrier just before getting out. I finally figured out how to get out of that tunnel when my memory card's memory was wiped out! Unless I find the cheat codes, looks like I'll have to start the game all over again!

About the base on the snow just popping out... I think it's an abandoned Belkan or Osean airbase. It is true that the mountains look just like the ones when you had the carrier takeoff and landing. I don't know maybe the designers just copied the mountains cause they're too tired to make a new one.
