  • fucking old ass movies need to go

  • @cockwiper well thats mean. and with a username like cockwiper i dont think anyone will listen or care about your opinion.

  • @cockwiper No. No, I don't think so. Maybe you need to go instead, if you're serious.

  • "Ball of Fire" is one of my most favorite Stanwyck films...and one of the few B/W films I could see in color, if only to see that dress in full color! My one complaint...are they really trying to convince me that Gary Cooper is a nerd? That's like trying to convince me that Charlton Heston is a Mexican. :)

  • @ 5:15, What does boogie mean, Are you kiddin'

    So funny.

  • What a pair. Krup played drums like no one else did or ever has and Stanwyck was the ballsiest woman on the screen Thanks for posting, this was a real treat.

  • Great clip- I love Barbara Stanwyck as well as loving Boogie Woogie 40s music-thanx for posting

  • Couldn't they have dubbed it with someone who at least sounded a tiny bit like Stanwyck??

  • @Onlymusical but i love Martha Tilton!

  • just saw this flick a few weeks ago. stanwyck thy name is sexy...one classy talented dame. none of the ladies today can hold a candle to her. great moves! all her work is pretty amazing but stella dallas and double indeminty are my personal favs.

  • If you like the music of the 30s and 40s listen to Martha Tilton! Check out her website, And The Angel Sings.

  • i would kill to get my hands on some of those 40s drums

  • Stanwyck is sexy.

  • I saw a young Gary Cooper and he looks like "Lovable Lou"

  • "Boogie" hahaha!! Gary Cooper is SO adroable!!!!!!!

  • One of the BEST movies EVER made!!!! Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck; you just CAN'T get any better!!!!!

  • That women simply destroy my mind

  • I LOVE HER

  • Crgaillee, I have to agree if this was really Stanwick's voice she would have been just an amazing singer, and with those set of legs. But lets just have fun watching her, Gary Cooper, and listening to the man, Geno on those skins.

  • wow, I have never noticed Barbara doing stuff like this. And ya, she is my favorite actress too. I too think Lady eve is one of the funnist movies I have ever seen. Thyanks so much cbrace for putting this up.

  • @niagaraorbust Glad you enjoyed it! I agree: Lady Eve is fabulous.

  • @niagaraorbust

Stanwyck could do almost anything. Her gifts bordered on the supernatural.

  • @grabit1 Yes, an actress of great integrity and versatility- so WHY didn't she ever get an Oscar????

  • Yeow, Barbara Stanwick was hot. Love this movie!

  • barbara stanwyck = coolest woman in the history of history

  • @poeticjournalism I totally agree!!!!!!

  • I love stuff like that. Movies aren't made in that style anymore!! That Sucks!!

  • Barbara Stanwyck is MY FAVORITE ACTRESS. I <3 her so much! However, this is in fact dubbed. Her own voice can be heard in "Lady of Burlesque," "Banjo on My Knee," and "The Purchase Price." Her singing voice was much deeper than this, and she was no slouch at singing; however, according to the book "Starring Miss Barbara Stanwyck" the powers that be decided to dub her singing for this film.

  • @TheLadyEveSidwich Thanks for this info. The question comes up here again and again, as you can see. I hope the matter is settled for now.

  • @cbrace I hope so. :) I adore this woman so much you don't even know. I've done so much research on her. LOL. Videos of all of her singing in her movies are available here on YouTube, fortunately for us!

  • @TheLadyEveSidwich No knock on Martha Tilton, but Babs could have done this all by herself. Yes, the "powers that be," but Sam Goldwyn gets a break because his films were so good. Even if he should have just let Babs sing.

  • That IS the voice of Barbara Stanwyck and shame on you for ever saying different!!

  • @crgaillee Sorry, but it is the voice of Martha Tilton.

  • @cbrace And Tilton is copying, note for note, the great Anita O'Day's original interpretation, and if you see the music short featuring O'Day, you'll see Anita is the far superior boogie dancer, too.

  • @crgaillee Barbara has sung in other movies but not here.

  • I know Gene's think, "DAMN, THAT'S A NICE ASS!"

  • Ganze Orchester ist klasse!

  • "Boogie!" hahaha! Gary Cooper is SO cute in this movie!!!!

  • I really like this song!

  • GARY! OH GARY! GARY!

  • thisis the killer diller for sure

  • This..has to be my all time fav's i also have read it was Martha

but you know what he is Right never sell Barbara short she is the best .....The Great Barbara Standwyck....... Krupa is my Hero..... I wish we had bands like this Today..The Music is so hot ....wow it's Killer Diller..

  • "'The Cat's a Killer Diller"...The Man Gene Krupa .......

  • this is unbelievable born too late thanks AAAAA++++

  • These WWII era videos are fantastic! This stands up to anything done today.

  • The black trumpet player is there when they do the number but when Barbara comes back out, he is not there anymore.

  • @somewhere6 excellent observation. Roy Eldridge was the Number 1 trumpeter of his day. He was THE inspiration to the young Dizzy Gillespie. He had led a great band with his alto sax brother, but band finances caused him to break up the band. He joined Krupa as star soloist, but the racial segregation of the time caused issues many places the band played, including Hollywood. Krupa to his credit stood by Roy 100%. Roy was a trailblazer long before anyone heard of Jackie Robinson or ML King.

  • Thanks for this - I Came specifically looking for the match box drumming and am so happy to find it!

  • If you don't smile when you hear this, you are not human.

  • If anyone wants to hear Barbara's real singing voice, check out The Lady of Burlesque, The G-String Song. All Barbara, all the way.

  • i luv this movie n Barbara n Gary 2gether

  • HOT DOG! An integrated orchestra in 1941, yet. A little music goes a looong way.

  • Were the tablelamps candles or electric?

  • barbera is frigginn hot!

  • Easily one of the four or five best musical numbers from a 1940s movie. Martha Tilton never sounded so sexy as when her song came out of Stanwyck. It's hard to think of another film about American Slang that is as funny or sexy as "Ball of Fire" was. Killer Diller shove in the clutch.

  • The waiter is Elisha Cook, Wilmer in "The Maltese Falcon".

  • Doesn't get any better than this~! this beautiful hot 'Dame' -(of a long ago beloved past-as many may remember as 'the best of all the best times'-) blows doors off Marylin Monrow~! and someone please tell me where I can get that golden dress~!

  • Stanwyck is not singing. Martha Tilton provided Barbara Stanwyck's singing voice for the "Drum Boogie" performance.

  • You have a great collection. My husband Buddy Hampton really likes this one! Thanks

  • One of the best movies ever.... its a killer ... it sends me ... its a killer diller !

Thanks for posting ..LOVE IT !!

  • thanks, toni - dayniac4324 - for sharing this killer diller video with me!! great post, cbrace!! five stars!! drum boogie!!!!

    david

  • Oh this movie is sublime. I take back everything I ever said about Gary Cooper (like, he's a piece of wood as an actor). He really showed he had the chops. As for Barbara S., she was the best of 40's movie-making.

  • Barbara Stanwyck was so sexy and beautiful. I believe Gene was the best, and also always dressed great, means a lot for the big band. image.

  • He's "matchless" on the drums.

  • hahaha

  • Is Stanwyck really singing?

  • No, as mentioned in the info box, the voice of Martha Tilton is dubbed.

  • @cbrace and she's really bad at it XD

  • @cbrace

Prove it. And don't ever sell Stanwyck short again.

  • @grabit1 See the Martha Tilton listing on IMDB.

  • @cbrace ~ That's like quoting Wikipedia. Barbara Stanwyck was sometimes dubbed, but this is HER singing, just as she did her own singing in "Lady of Burlesque".

  • @edwardjames50 If you are so sure IMDB is wrong, then contact them and present your evidence. If you are right, I am sure they will correct it.

  • @cbrace

Sorry both of you folks if you're right and I'm not. But if Stanwyck were here now, I doubt that shed lie about the real answer.

  • @grabit1 just compare the voice from this video to ones where Barbara is really singing - either "The G-String Song", or "Where The Lazy River Goes By" with Tony Martin. they sound quite different:-)

  • Comment removed

  • @cbrace What makes it obvious that it is a "voice over" is that there is no microphone for the singer - nor for the orch. for that matter. No boom mikes are seen as the camera zooms out as she steps off the stage and heads for the audience. You are correct! Tnx for a super video!

  • @kogrone Of COURSE this isn't Stanwyck's voice - only an idiot would think otherwise. Aside from the fact that she couldn't sing (listen to how flat and course her voice is in "Burlesque"), it doesn't even sound remotely LIKE her. Even a KID would notice the difference. Rididulous. Stawncyk was a great, great actress. She simply couldn't sing. Big deal.

  • I love that movie and i love that song. thanks for posting it

  • now doubt Ms. Stanwyck was hot but Theres alway been top Kitty hot women in movies. I just happen to love the hairstyles woman wore during this time period. Long with curls at the ends and sexy a-- bangs, yubba dubba ! Floats my boat !

  • Now correct me if I am wrong here, but wasn't that also Louie Armstrong on trumpet?

  • No, I believe it is Roy Eldridge

  • its actually Roy Eldridge.

  • Thanks gents! I couldnt really tell. Say,does anyone have a clip of the dueling drummers? That is Buddy Rich vs Johnny Carson? I remember seeing that growing up, and can't seem to locate a copy. It be greatly appreciated if anyone has it, and can share it!

  • I never knew Krupa was playing open handed before Cobham!

  • There is more entertainment in this 5 minute bit than in all of 'Mama Mia.'

  • Gene rocks!!! :D

  • Martha Tilton's voice is great on this jig.

  • Jusat watched the movie tonight. Stanwyck was sexier in that dress (and those legs!) than any movie star today -

  • The incomparable Gene Krupa! Man, he showed all that followed how it was done!

  • Vintage boogie. Best there is!

  • this kills!! made my day. thank you.

  • Very cool.

  • ah gene krupa rocks.....he sure is insane tho, insane with talent and just generally insane. they would of been top shit back then but the snare drums his using would of been annoying to play with, i'm in a band and the kit i use at my friends house for rehearsing has a snare like that,,,,,,,its got to be the worst snare i have ever played with and hopefully ever will play with

  • Knock yourself out...you go Barbara!

    Love it!!!

  • Genial drumm solo de Krupa with a machtbox!

  • Barbara Stanwyck plus Gene Krupa -- supergal & ultimate hepcat, unbeatable pairing. Ten stars!

If you like, check out my little site with lots of 40s & 50s jazz. Link is in my profile.

Thanks a load for the splendid vid & See you around,

    Brewdrum

  • Excellent music and song! WOW!

  • this is my tap dance song!

  • I wish they had entertainment like this nowadays when one went out on the town!

  • yeah me too it would be soooo much fun

  • awsome thanx!

  • What a time; people dressed up, they had class, the smoked and drank and nobody looked funny at them for it. I don't know who the great lady vocalist is, but her legs win me over.

  • Yes true! We need more of that more classic natural real things - now everythings so construated!!

  • I believe the singer is Barbara Stanwick. Later the star of a TV show called "Big Valley".

  • the actress is indeed Barbara stanwick but she isnt singing this. It was dubbed and sung by Martha Tilton

  • I'm a big fan of Martha Tilton. Didn't know she did the singing in this scene, but it shows how good she was coz she makes her voice sound like Barbara Stanwyck's. Sometimes you hear a singer dubbing for a non-singing actress and it don't sound anything like the actress she's dubbing for and the effect is ridiculous. Here, you might think it's really Stanwyck singing.

  • That matchstick scene at the end was killer diller!

  • dont you think theres some resemblance between gene krupa and keith moon?

funny how moon admired him, bet he got his ideads of gene?

  • of course

  • That's not Anita O'Day singing here; she only sang on the recorded version on OKeh records.

And the actual lyrics are, "The rhythm won't offend you", not "the rhythm oughta bend you".

  • correct...it is martha tilton who is singing the vocals for barbara

  • @ 2:18-look at krup go!

  • too bad he was a druggadict.. but he played like the gods

  • He wasn't a drug addict.

  • maybe.. but he went to jail 'cause of drug troubles..

  • It was my uncle that put him away for "reefer". My family never forgave him.

  • Anita o day is on the vocals :)

  • j'adore Barbara Stanwyck (voir les 40 voleurs). Son dernier film était Roustabout avec Elvis.

  • Oui - good movie!

  • Totally hot.

  • Sorry, I meant she had class -- I wrote "glass" by mistake. lol

  • Barbara had such glass and style - something most modern day actresses couldn't have no matter how hard they tried.

  • wow. i loved this.

  • Drum boogie..Drum boogie...the drum boogie woogie!

  • The rhythm oughtta....bend you. Ha! I never noticed that little pause before. That's quite naughty.

  • I watched this clip the first time and was rivited! This is a real gem of a clip, you have to watch again and again (as I did) - it addictive! I have always seen her in film noirs or very melodramatics parts.

  • great scene!!

  • Glad to see this...wonderful number from one of my all time favorite movies! Stanwyk and Krupa still got it going on over todays hep cats, and The Coop is no slouch either!

  • KEITH MOON....LOL

  • Martha Tilton was great on the vocals.

    Thanks

  • What a classic! Not only does Gene show why he was so great, we also see that incredible allure of Barbara Stanwyck. Wow, what a number!

  • Simply the best

  • This is rock n roll beforer it was even evented Best in the land

  • This was alot of fun!!!! When I was a kid my mother never let me watch Krupa movies because he was the worst junkie she new of...

Yet we listened to monk, davis, trane, etc?????

  • Then your mother was wrong. The myth about Krupa being a junkie came about because he was one of the first celebrities to be busted for marijuana and he had a very exuberant manner when he played so people assumed he was high. Truth is that Krupa never had a drug addiction. To quote Teddy Wilson, "People have often asked me whether Krupa was an addict, and I always say no, because he wasn't." Too bad Krupa still has this falsehood hanging over him over 30 years after his death.

  • Did you know him? Actually the first celebrity to be busted for pot was Robert Mitchum! My mother grew up and worked in Greenwich Village in the 30's and and early 40's and did know alot more that we know..I always trusted her. It's no big deal..

  • No, I didn't know him but read books about him and by people who worked with him such as Teddy Wilson, Anita O'Day & Pee Wee Erwin. Maybe your mom had inside info, but several colleagues make a point of saying he wasn't a junkie. I have no reason to dispute their assertions. BTW, I said ONE of the first to be busted not the first. Some quick research shows that Krupa was busted in 1943 and Mitchum in 1948. I've found no reliable sources that state he was a junkie and many that dispute it.

  • It's OK, no big deal, I am just going by word-of-mouth. There are always alot of ugly rumors and facts about jazz musicians, I imagine that's why it's still not that popular..He does remind me alot of the psycho piano player in Reefer Madness!!!

  • LOL at the "Reefer Madness" reference. And I gotta agree with you there. He does have some pretty wild mannerisms and facial expressions. I also agree that this clip is great fun. The movie was on TCM fairly recently and it was very funny. Stanwyck is terrific in it. Cheers.

  • This is my favorite Barbara Stanwyck movie, aside from Double Indemnity. Too bad movies nowadays are nowhere near as classy.

  • The song, the band, Barbara Stanwyck, the fantastic nightclub set, the sharp b&w photography - it's the best scene in the whole move.

    "The rhythm won't offend you

    It's really gonna send you"

  • I got the movie just for this scene !

  • Thanks for the clip, I've been a Barbara Stanwyck fan since way back, although not as far back as 1941. :::wink::: She was talented and great looking.

  • Stanwyck had a truly great career, and people raved about working with her; a real professional. You might check out "Thornbirds" if you haven't already seen it.

  • Thanks for posting this! I love it. Rent this film, everyone!

  • But none could out swing him.

  • I love how the one black trumpet player is in shadow when he does his solo. A black musician in a white band? Why I never! Freaking 1940's.

  • Excelent !!!!!

  • Who cares? Straight or gay she's a hottie! (And I'm a straight gal!)

  • sorry to burst your bubble but reliable reports i have read state otherwise.studio heads hushed these scandals up but she was intimatly involved with other actresses including claudette colbert who was also a lady lover. in to-days hollywood, nobody cares.

  • dispite the fact that some think she was a lesbian, she was in fact not.She was close friends with MArlene Dietrich, and Joan Crawford, but not intimate....lol lol

  • yeah man

  • Gotta love this! That bass drum is pounding!!

  • can u please post the scene in which she dances with the professiors

  • Babs had legs like a showgirl.

  • I loved this movie as a kid. I guess you could say I grew up in the wrong era. I love the 20's, 30's, and 40's! If you have never seen this movie, you must! It's a great love story too. Gene Krupa is so sexy, to bad the coke killed him.

  • one of my fav. movies of all time --rare masterpiece

  • p.s. - notice the waiter that Gary Cooper speaks with? it's Elisha Cook Jr!

    *blink and you'll miss him!

  • one of my all-time faves!

    Sugarpuss + Sammy ='.'=

  • Barbara Stanwyck was a professional dancer before she became a star in films. She danced most nights during WWII at the Hollywood Canteen. AND IT SHOWS. She is hot.

  • This is nostalgia at it's best. I am there right now, 1941 during WW2, and the country needs to be pulled together, and songs like this did it.

  • cbrace i love Gary cooper and barbara stanwyck in this movie and thanx for the moonglow dance too!

  • I love the groove krupa goes into at 2:20. Its SOOOOOO amazing.

  • Victoria Barkley was always hot even at 72 trying to bed richard chamberlin!

  • amazing! I miss you, Barbs.

  • love Babs love Krupa boogie on

  • Lowlights has also become my secret enemy!!!!

  • Victoria Barkley when she was hot.
