Hah, they're not taxing us, silly. They're taxing the corporations who pass those costs onto us, their captive customers. Just look at oil prices. They go up, and down constantly throughout the year, but gas prices are dictated by seasonal demand, without those fluctuations being taken into account. Even diesel, which is a damned byproduct of gas production, doesn't drop in price, when it is essentially trash. Carbon may not be the be all end all solution to global warming, but it plays a part.

Why would more collective money for social projects (tax money) be a bad thing? Look at the countries that pay the highest taxes: they're the happiest most productive countries in the world. Not to mention when I look at the "reasons" against global warming, I find that your side has to do a lot of logical fallacy writing, like the "a large amount of scientists have signed a petition saying they don't believe global warming" fallacy. 1) science isn't a democratic process (what if 90% of society votes that you're a hermaphrodite? Would it make it any closer to true?), and 2) they weren't climatologists (they added scientists in unrelated fields to pad the numbers). =P
