As someone who grew up in Ann Arbor, went to my first game when I was seven, I gotta say, Cowherd is right. It's like the hockey program and the football program traded places between now and when I was there (late 70's).

So what if teams get lots of players drafted, they don't even make it out of their first contract. Our free agent list is bigger than Floridas all time list.
OK, so apparently this is very old. However, I would just like to point out the sheer hilarity of Colin Cowherd citing Troy Smith (who I think was drafted after my mother went his year) as proof that Ohio State develops elite, first-round talent.

Even 3 years ago Collin was right and now Michigan is a joke compared to 10 years ago. They haven't even won the Rose Bowl since 1998 when they won the National Championship or shared it. Ohio State has owned them, haven't beaten them since 2003 which before Tressel came along Michigan owned Ohio State. If Hoke can develop talent like Tressel did has done in Ohio State they can be back to where the used to be. It's going to take a long time.
It's unfortunate, and frankly embarrassing. I'm a Michigan fan, and I agree with him 100%. After 2000, we absolutely began declining. Can't beat Ohio State, can't win bowl games, then it was bad home losses, then dropping out of Big Ten contention all-together. It's awful. Hopefully Brady Hoke can bring us back so long as the fans (and the whole of the athletic department) rally around him.
This is why we need a Michigan coach that knows what he's doing. RR had to go, and so did Lloyd Carr, and it won't happen immediately, but it's ironic that the year after this...Mich. won their 1st 11 games, and from that team has double-digit players drafted, just off the next year's team alone.
I know OSU is doing good, but Mich. is on the way back, and it may take an extra year, but as long as RR is gone...we will have players that get drafted and produce on the field.

I can't remember 1 program that has never had a down period of some sort, with a losing record or probation for cheating. Michigan finally had its down spell. look it up. Bama had bad years at the turn of the century. Auburn did too. Oklahoma and Texas were both down at the sametime when Nebraska was dominating the big 12. even baylor had better seasons! Even 3 years ago Collin was right and now Michigan is a joke compared to 10 years ago. They haven't even won the Rose Bowl since 1998 when they won the National Championship or shared it. Ohio State has owned them, haven't beaten them since 2003 which before Tressel came along Michigan owned Ohio State. If Hoke can develop talent like Tressel did has done in Ohio State they can be back to where the used to be. It's going to take a long time.

It's unfortunate, and frankly embarrassing. I'm a Michigan fan, and I agree with him 100%. After 2000, we absolutely began declining. Can't beat Ohio State, can't win bowl games, then it was bad home losses, then dropping out of Big Ten contention all-together. It's awful. Hopefully Brady Hoke can bring us back so long as the fans (and the whole of the athletic department) rally around him.

This is why we need a Michigan coach that knows what he's doing. RR had to go, and so did Lloyd Carr, and it won't happen immediately, but it's ironic that the year after this...Mich. won their 1st 11 games, and from that team has double-digit players drafted, just off the next year's team alone.
I know OSU is doing good, but Mich. is on the way back, and it may take an extra year, but as long as RR is gone...we will have players that get drafted and produce on the field.
