  • It is pronounced UUUUbuuuuntuuuu. And that isn't the word processor nor spreadsheet that comes by default with Ubuntu. Libre Office (the full fledged top of the line competitor to Office) does. And technically it doesn't appear to be running on it, rather it is operating within an environment, making it non-native.

  • um...okay?

  • God..you can run Ubuntu on a cucumber too!

  • cool

  • @scuster45 LOL !

  • It's GUI is not touch friendly at all, everything about it seems to be more for a laptop or desktop than a mobile. Be creative linux!

  • @blessi360 linux did not create it, pocketnow just used standard linux and made it able to run on a phone.

  • @blessi360 thats because it is a desktop OS, its not meant for mobile use. Someone just found a way to run it on that phone... just for fun. Im actually typing this right now on my laptop that has Ubuntu 10.10 on it.

  • Can I dual boot the winmo and ubuntu on this phone?

  • calender FAILED you

  • @kkchance It did not fail him. To close it he has to clisk on the location on the icon panel. It DOES work.

  • Yea, before making a video u sould search for an info about ubuntu. Now u look just like prick shitting about anything u don't know

  • @ragvedgaras Well, instead on crapping on someone providing useful information, why don't you -- if you are a Ubuntu user -- do a vid to show it better.

  • @historatia Well i don't shit with winows mobile. I went straight for android.

  • typical windows user always going to office shit

  • @DoorisJ That wasn't MS Office "shit" It was either one of the numeroud "office" applications available in Ubuntu, probably Openoffice.

  • ubuntu

  • can you install ubuntu on your watch

  • What's the battery life?

  • This is totally useless, ive tried it, apt-get does not work, firefox does not connect and there is nothing to do with that, exept making little youtube videos. I love ubuntu, i use it everyday on my PC but on the phone, this version is totally useless. It would be cool to be able to install other programs but i can't.

  • It's cool that people are experimenting and I would love to see less lock-in between software and hardware. But from a usability POV.. what a disaster. :)

  • If it can run Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional it can run Ubuntu

  • Comment removed

  • i got this phone... if i could call from this and text from this setup then i would convert instantly

  • omg.. i love ubuntu.

p.s. real people dual boot windows and linux. best of both world without the gay fanboy shit talking

  • @dzilla1991 Real people dual boot? Why? With a virtual machine running windows (if you windows software does already run under Wine on Linux, why would you dual boot? For example, my Autocad runs really well under Wine.

  • What about WINE? x-P

  • i love android phones :D

  • @Feliexxxxxxxx its actually windows mobile phone

  • to bad you can't call from it :(

  • The future of mobile productivity: having a desktop in your hand! :D

  • Does this support USB host?

  • u can do this on the omnia i900 to

  • @ThePcTrickster seen it :D

  • @scuster45 hahaha=)))

  • My Samsung LED Tv runs Linux. Now that's what I call portable...from PCs to servers, to mainframes and supercomputers to washing machines.

  • @moveaxebx lol dude

  • is there support for the original touch pro?

  • hahahahhaha.. is terrific a machine pure power... this is the best..

  • My Dish Network DVR seriously runs Embedded Linux...it's amazing how some everyday devices run WinCE or Linux.

  • @scuster45 ROFL

  • U-boon-too. :P

  • Whatever happened to phones are phones?

  • That's sick!!! does the internet work? do all the features/phone work?

  • I run Linux on my Toaster

  • Noobs piss me off.

  • It's awesome really, phones now really are "computers" - Maybe try running windows XP or OSX in emulation via Ubuntu? Undoubtedly would be slow - but awesome!

  • well that's cool but not that big a deal. you could probably run linux on a dildo if you wanted.

  • @WowzaBoyz lol The display and controls would be crap though.

  • @WowzaBoyz actually, you probably could. im sure DSL Linux distro would run fantastically on it

  • @MonsterNRGEE lol

  • @WowzaBoyz lmfao

  • I want to smack this dude for saying YOUBUNTOO

  • @bandwidth1974

i want to smack you for NOT being helpful and correcting him with oo-BOON-too

and @ 0.20 he does say, i'm sorry if im not pronoucing it right

  • @Pocketnowvideo

Can it be done in MyTouch 3G Slide?

If so, icould it be possible to dual boot between Android and Ubuntu?

  • holy shit, okay, this device runs ubuntu better than my stupid pc....

  • big deal i can run linux on my fingeer. thumbs up for the typo

  • all the new linux operating systems dominate everything else death to windows/mac

  • looks great :)

  • you boon too

  • dude's a goob, but this is a cool vid!

  • "...don't know how to do this, cause I don't use Ubuntu..."

Then what are you doing right now? You ARE using Ubuntu, easy eh?

Just install it on your home computer and check it out... It's great!

  • i run Linux on my stairs

  • i dont get u ppl, use Netbook versions!!!!! they made for small displays

  • im new with ubuntu.. but how did you make it work in the cellphone? how did you install it?

  • video creator, did you wrtie all this code yourself? is this all you?? If none of it is you then stop trying to make yourself feel good on the back of other peoples work.. sad.

  • Comment removed

  • You should use Ubuntu, instead of that shitty mac. It will do so much more.

  • @whiteguysamurai no it wont. your comment is entirely just a matter of opinion. and here is my opinion. your opinion is bullshit.

  • @johnathon124 Yes, the ability to edit everything.. is more. Enjoy you fisher price os.

  • @whiteguysamurai what on osx cant you edit ? [ btw dont think im an apple lover, im not a fanboy of any OS. i use all 3 of the most popular desktop OSes. Windows 7. Mac OS X. And Ubuntu Karmic Koala. Which is 9.10 if im not mistaken. ]

  • @johnathon124 Mac OS X is closed source. Linux is open source. 100% of the Linux operating system and the vast majority of the programs you run on it you can edit. You can't say the same for OS X whether you like it or not.

  • @privateabstract OS X was based on debian, which is open source... if you understand linux, specifically debian, well enough, editing OS X is easy. plus, Property lists are easy to understand and figure out.

  • @johnathon124 "Based on Debian?" Where'd you get that trash? Also, even if it was based on Debian then you're still limited in what you can change, in the case of OS X, that is.

  • @johnathon124 What the hell are you smoking?!? OS X is based on the XNU Kernel and Darwin. It has ZERO Linux code in it.

  • @davidmasson93 i smoke Marijuana to forget that i have glaucoma.

  • @johnathon124

OSX wasn't based on Debian, it was based on FreeBSD...

  • Could you install windows 7 on this??? haha

  • @eldaguinio nup. Even windows 95 wouldn't run well. ARM processors can'thandle the tasks. Linux runs on everything!

  • Ubuntu

  • i run yobontu on my pancakes :D woot beat ya !!

  • impressive.. it's somewhat faster than on my old desktop xD

I guess with an optimized window manager it would be even faster (=

Hmm I guess I need to get a windows mobile phone to dualboot in ubuntu!

What about wifi ? DOes it work ? How long lasts the battery while using ubuntu ? This is nearly, what I'm dreaming for 3 years..

  • my brain runs ubuntu

  • @ever1tubes you poor guy... you got an X in your head?? Dont you may try something without an X-Server xD

  • does wifi work while running in ubuntu?

  • very interesting to see Gnome on a portable device. you could skin it to resemble windows, and make your friends think you have a UMPC!

  • i'm not the usual flaming type...but for fuck sake, if you "don't use ubuntu" and know nothing about it as you don't stop ranting about, don't make a video about it !!!

  • Hi! Next time practise using ubuntu first! But this is cool, this is the future, all phones will be as good as our desktop computers.

  • Now get CompizFusion working on that little guy!

  • @patricknelson I second that. $5.00 paypal donation to see wobbly windows, 3D desktop and animations. As more driver stacks get released to the public, and the open source community get behind it, she could be a viable platform.

  • @patricknelson that would be awesome

  • OO-BOON-TOO (OO as in tube)

  • nothing new... it's zubuntu for sharp zaurus, I use it, but the quality is too bad, and the main advantage is the desig as in ubuntu....

  • I use linux on a daily basis. Now with that said, until they can finally get the phone part working so this can make calls from within linux, this is just a curiosity for me.

  • I run Linux on my coffe machine

  • @bvjorge jajajajaaj

  • @bvjorge why not

  • @bvjorge

I run Linux on my 5 computers ;)

  • @bvjorge Awesome

  • @bvjorge i fucking lol'd its true you can run ubuntu almost on evrything

  • "Running on a device which wasn't intended to run this operating system" HA! LOL! Welcome to the world of Linux!

  • Wow so nice

  • Ok, But it's still dialing and acessing internet? What about the wireless interface? And Bluetooth and all the other phone devices?

Can you post your reply here?

    Thanks

  • WOW your lame

  • cool thing that ur showing this ;)

im running android on my touch hd, works quite fine (some bad ish issues still, but its getting there...)

  • I don't understand this, are they surprised you could put Linux on the phone? Linux can be put on anything

  • yeah linux is in almost everything and very few people don't own something that runs linux, but running an operating system made for a desktop computer = different

  • @dannielpreto not a full desktop environment like you'd expect on an x86 based PC

  • @dannielpreto

Yeah thats true, yesterday i installed linux on my cat!!!1

  • @DerPet0r FTW

  • @dannielpreto especially since Android OS runs off the linux kernel... which has been on phones for years lol

  • @dannielpreto i condom runs linux

  • @dannielpreto Can I put linux on my Commodore 64?

  • @dannielpreto You can run Linux on anything that's right, but it has to be compiled for the processor architecture. HTC TP2 has an ARM processor, as you can see on the website there is no ARM version of Ubuntu and even though you can compile it for ARM, that doesn't mean it actually has drivers to do something with the phone hardware. So yes, it is pretty cool and not all that straightforward...

  • @shokora666 That is COMPLETELY WRONG. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with a Unity Desktop on the Pandaboard which is built with and ARM cpu. You run the netbook version and it works perfectly. Loading it in is not straightforward because you have to learn to fdisk the SDHC devices, but that is not Ubuntu's fault, that is basic hardware management task. It runs astonishingly well for a tiny board using trivial amounts of power with a class 10 or better SDHC ( 8 gig preferred performance).

  • @historatia I'm not saying in any way that you can't do it o_O I'm just saying that it's not trivial

  • @shokora666 I still don't agree, the ubuntu part is TRIVIAL. The non-trivial part is the matter of formatting the storage card and getting it to load up, and that is the same with ANY non-pre-loaded OS (such as Android). Now since Android is based on Linux, the simple fact is that any phone that the drivers that will work your Android (open source version) will also run the same devices with Ubuntu using the same drivers.

  • youuboontoo !

  • They should have used the Ubuntu Netbook Remix edition which is more suitable for small screens.

  • @deathmaster008 ДА, тогда бы получился вполне достойный пальцеориентированный интерфейс *CRAZY*

  • netbook remix might be suitable for small screen, but ubuntu will eventually do too with some tweak.. About usability, I thik they would do the same.. e17(ubuntu nr )vs Lxde (this one), i think lxde is lighter

  • THis is one of the reasons why linux rocks. xD

  • could you tell us if the goddamn internet works through it? Seriously lame video though, word processor and spreadsheet examples? Nothing like installing linux on a phone to track your baseball card collection...

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously.

  • will this work on HD2

  • lol obviously slow cuz of gnome, i am sure you can use fluxbox or xfce to speed up this.

  • all slow and small ^))

  • dude i have this running on my xperia x1 ..:D gotta admit its cool XD...thanx 2 xda developers...

  • that is soooo good. thanks for the video brandon

  • Ya must admit this is pretty awesome :-)

  • troll

  • give me a good reason why linux sucks as Linux runs on basically all servers!

  • @kenny4me93

all servers? :D not for all servers linux is good Decision. and for homestation linux is too bad then the Win... For the some servers WIn Serv is better then the linux and much faster. Linux better for the some servers like DNS or VPN but it too slow with Big raid archive then the WIN (16 HDD in raid 5 speed 70-150 mb\s it's lower then the win with 1 HDD some times :D)

  • but, you have to admit that its better open then closed source! :D

i love the linux community because money is not first priority, always free:]

  • yes u right but in business money is not a problem such as a bugs with opensource software... not all aps (opensource) is bad but most of them is not so stable i think that the quality is cost some money :) for the home station for some things like games, video and othe multimedia i used win is better and i come from work and play or wathcing my video. but in linux it's was as: come from work take a time too do PC work, or lookin for fix this in internet, then whatch a video :D

  • i have not really encounter any bugs since I do everything online. well, linux works for me:P

thats all i have to say.

  • dude seriously its UBUNTU NOT YOU-BUNTU

  • @rockpeteuk the guy clearly said sorry if im saying that wrong, what more do you want? DICK!

  • Ubuntu rules, i'm using it for a long time now and i said good bye to microcrash winblows.

  • Move onto something more fun if you've been using Ubuntu for a long time. Say, Archlinux :)

  • this would be a BEAST on the HD2..

  • try ubuntu MID

  • I'm an Ubuntu user, and I think it should be pronouced, Yo-buntu. Not because its right, but because I like it.

  • @dingletec I like Oooo-Buntu. :p Never heard Yo-Buntu :p I that the Hip-Hop Version? LOL!

  • Just trying to hang with the young folks, keeping it fresh. Or something like that...

  • LOL!

  • Not to troll, but if you don't know the pronounciation of a word you'll be saying repeatedly throughout the video (ubuntu) then you should just look it up. It adds a sense of professionalism instead of just not caring.

  • @elgrandamian No it doesn't.

I say "you-bun-too", and as long as everyone knows what he's talking about, it doesn't make a difference. Stop being so bitchy

  • Yes. It does. Correct pronounciation is important because it helps people communicate efficiently. Not correcting a mistake leads to the error being propagated to other people. As I said, I'm not trying to troll or be bitchy. However, since you took it personal and decided to say I was bitchy, That's fine. I'll just continue being bitchy, but you'll continue being ignorant and stubborn.

  • *pronunciation.

  • @elgrandamian *pronunciation*

And no, everyone can understand what he is saying, you're preference doesn't mean its everyone elses. Let him say it the way he wants to.

  • Pues yo lo entiendo perfectamente, eres un poco quisquilloso..

  • HTC touch pro 2 is the best mobile EVER!!! i have already have one ;)

  • oo - BOON - too.

    No "you". No "bun".

  • I'm using Ubuntu.

    Programs = Apps/Applications.

Hiding the calendar = tap on the date at the top right corner of the screen.

The Appearence Settings at 2:33 lets you customize your look and feel.

And on the panel (the gray one at the top), is fully customizable.

But still, how you've got the calendar on another place, even surprises me.

  • Comment removed

  • This is already avaible for weeks on X1.

  • @ matejdro

retard! its allready noticed in the video!!!

  • Yes but its strange that videos like that come to pocketnow late. Like i already used features in most sense 2.5 videos for a long time when they made video about.

  • run sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

  • nice

  • Wow, that's pretty amazing.

  • needs alot of work... so unresponsive.

  • needs alot of work... so unresponsive.

  • pretty sweet. kind of pointless though

  • It'd be better if you could use windows 98 or something on a phone. I don't like the mobile OS, I'd rather use an old computer OS.
