Please, please, please NEVER stop this from playing on YOU TUBE!!! This is so great, I just marvel at all of it...the voice, the figure, the set, the sexiness, the absolute wonderness of it all. We will never again see anything like this again (my humble opnion)....Somehow, the stark, naked sets I see now, just don't have "IT"!!! NO, the GLAMOR is missing...and dear ANNA was the most glamorous, as well as the most beautiful. We'll never see it again. BRAVA, dear ANNA! BRAVA!!!!
Oh, how I adored Moffo. Her early death (and quite tragic life experiences) broke my heart, but she was entrancing and incredibly beautiful. What a sexy and stylish romp this is. Viva Moffo!
A REAL DIVA alright!!! I'm surprised that no one has commented on her very, very SEXYNESS!!!!! She could entrance anyone both vocally and with her beauty and
SEXINESS as well!!!!!! WOW! DEAR ANNA THANks for that astronomical high stratospherical final note!!!! BRAAAAAAAAAAVVAAAAAAAA!!
I could do without the unnecessary sopracuto at the end, but here is Anna sounding and looking enchanting, in what is, to me, the most haunting of all operetta arias (Lehar would hate me for calling Giuditta an operetta, I know!). The aria itself is so nostalgic, and watching Anna in her prime is a heartbreaking bit of nostalgia itself.
Oh Brava, Brava,Bravo....dear Anna. As I watched this for 20-30- times or so, and then switched to a few others, plus having read about how Opera is changing. I think the days of glitzy, glamous, and scrumptious sets are going....so sad. All is financial in most cases, but Anna Moffo could light up a completely bare stage. She absolutely captivated with her voice, body, intellectual brain+those magnificent sets....She will NEVER be out of opera as long as You Tube keeps her for us! Thanks!
I just love the depth of tone she has - the coloratura is impressive as always but the creamy tone and legato are what make it so special for me. Beautiful. Thanks so much.
@JennyzaS If you do a search on google and write the aria name followed by sheet music, you should come up with something. Hope this helps and works!!
GREAT!!!! Thanks for repairing this. Ooooooohhhhhhhhh ANNA! What a TREAT...for the ears and eyes! She is wonderful here....and we just cannot neglect to say...so SEXY!!!!! WOW! A miracle was performed the day Anna was born in 1932.!LOL! I just love this lady....and that she was...A LADY! Did much work for the ARTS in New York after her voice left....BRAVA ANNA Forever!

Such a marverlous performance! One problem: It is breaking up someething fierce!TERRIBLE! The music stops and we see that dreadful little while circle go 'round and round. I try to be patient, but the breaks just ruin Anna Moffo's sexy rendition. I wonder whether this can be repaired.
A glamazon in the best and final sense of the word. I think "to Moffoize" should be the verb when anyone sings something creamily. Thanks for posting!
WOW! totally blown away! That final high E nat. was amazing! But is this live? cos it rly looks like one of those things when the singer just tries to look nice while moving her lips to her own recorded voice :(
I love Anna singing this sexy song. She was a sexy woman and the voice matched her looks. This is a very seductive song and Moffo did a wonderful job singing it here. She had a great operetta voice and recorded/performed a lot of them - Lehar, Strauss. She is sensational in this repertoire.
Elisabeth Schwarzkopf sang this in her Operetta album if I'm not mistaken. As did Beverly Sills. It's an aria tailor-made for sopranos skilled at light German operetta such as Anneliese Rothenberger, Edda Moser or just lyric voices like Anna Moffo. There is a Marlen Dietrich quality about it if sung in a certain 'talky" way. I do like Anna Moffo's version and Schwarzkopf's
Mastersof... there are few terrible mistakes in your posting:
1 Rothenberger and Moser are both renown sopranos (verdian and wagnerian respectively) maybe they recorded an aria or 2 from operettas just like everybody does..
2 Moffo was a spinto, not lyric, btw "just lyric" makes no sense
3 the only sopranos skilled in Kalman or Lehar are the ones that have not made it, or semi-retired ones..
should i continue? you should reconsider your screen-name, or the intellectual probity of you comments
Faute d'ampleur Moffo n'a abordé AUCUN role spinto.
i was just responding nonsensically to a nonsensical posting... dont get your undies into knickers
kufaidi kwamba mimi si kuzungumza na wewe - trust me, ungekuwa kushangazwa kuona jinsi hisia kidogo i wanaweza kufanya, wakati i kuzungumza na watu kama wewe
Excuse me.... Moffo a spinto? Even though Moffo sang a few spinto roles it does not mean that she herself actually was one. She's listed a lyric coloratura. Maybe you should check your facts?
i think the notion of this being an old recoding is a nonsense - this piece is too easy - for anybody of 'near-moffo' stature, even in semi retirement, it's a piece of cake! it's only her colour and delibrate (thought of) delivery that makes it amazing ...
it is amazing for a few minutes - shoter version (which would indicate being done ad hoc) recording done the same day in tv studio! - ...tv is just like that ..
person suggesting that notion never come back saying which recording woid it be
all i'm saying (and it still stands): the person suggesting it is an old recoding never came back saying which one ...
of course it is old - it is over 35 years old (!) but not more than a day or 2 older than the tv show - most indicative being the fact that it is abbreviated without a perceivable cut... i rest my case
I don't care if it was pre-recorded or done at that time: she still SANG it, and sang it VERY, VERY well!!! And what a personality and presence, whether on stage or in front of the camera. She makes you pay attention for the RIGHT reasons. Thank you very much for sharing this with us; it's OUTSTANDING!!! (By the way: what show is this from? I know the set is way too elaborate for this to be from The Ed Sullivan Show. Just curious...)
What counts is that it was not a case of "Milli Vanilli."
It was not someone else singing it. It was her own voice.
I suppose it's not quite Kosher to use an old recording of oneself. But as long as no deceit is involved, as long as the audience understands, I don't see the harm.
The human voice is a fragile thing. A beautiful voice doesn't last forever. That makes it all the more precious while it's in its prime.
I had the great pleasure of hearing Anna Moffo live in 1970 when she was on tour. It was the first time I had heard of her and immediately fell in love with her voice as well as her looks. She was simply beautiful and the voice was breath taking. SHe has always had a special place in my heart. By the way, the concert was at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
I've only heard it on tape before, it was great fun to see this primadonna peform it live even though German tv always let the artists lipsync instead of singing live:-/
Moffo is the only singer I've ever heard singing the final note in this aria one octave higher than the previous, already high, note.
how do you know this Brent? ...would be nice to know the recording
to me she seems to be singing it in a very simple fashion, just as intended (so that any little local 'diva' in provinces of the Empire can sing it... and shine sometimes) - that's what makes it perfect i for me
Lehar does not (and should not) really require 1/10 of skill or power of Puccini - with a smallest effort, i think, Moffo could do it under the water - even in retirement?

Have you never seen the videos of Anna on youtube that the fans begged and begged to be taken off? She had no voice, and even looked to be in pain when she sang. She could not stay on pitch, and would cough terribly when trying to hit high notes from the pain in her throat.
Really sad to watch. I am sure someone out there has these still..but doubt they will show up on Youtube again.
In short, it was no secret in the world that her voice was gone. It was fried by the end of the 60's.
not really in 60es - her voice faded in 72-74 - she had just about 20 (extremely busy) years of singing before that (what singing!)- she herself asked for the last few recordings never to be released as she was not happy with them - she was promised to that they will not be (!)... , still, your claims about fans begging sound fantastic
btw, there are recordings here, of some pieces, considered considered to be 'par excellence' which if, it would be her, she would not approve off
Onegin65, where are you finding these obscure Moffo videos? They're priceless. Oddly, enough she sounds better here than in the Depuis Le Jour you posted. This is a great video. It is however not from the 70's.
This is Anna in the 90's, and a lip sync performance with a recording from the 60's.
Her voice was very far gone at this period.
I love Anna, but the truth is the truth. It is great however to see her at this age.
