  • hello, you have some awesome tutorials. i will be using your channel a lot when working on my project, i have once question though. i am using UDK, but i dont have a character in there when i play my level. can you help me on how i can get a character into UDK. i dont mind using a default one, but i cant seem to do this at moment. thank you.

  • Is there a limit to how big a world in UDK can be? Or can you just type in like 5 billion by 5 billion whatever it's measured in? I know it would take a ridiculously long time to render and load that but i'm curious as to how far you can push the program.

  • I cant see build physx blabla and when i drag it in it works fine, untill it is in pieces, then i cant move the fragments like raven could :S any1 know what2 do?

  • This is odd I do have a nvidia GeForce GTS 450 and it says it has Physx?

    Do I have to enable it somewhere?

  • for the guys who dont see Physx options its probably cuz u dont have a nVidia card...remember physx is nVidia only

  • @carlitrosss PhysX hardware accleration is nVidia only, people without a nvidia card should still be able to use physx.

  • dynamic lighting makes the program crash

  • don't worry about the physx destructible part, just put what you have in there, hit build all and it works fine. the only problem was i couldn't see the mesh in the actual view i could only see it in like side, top and front view

  • thanks for taking the time to explain but this didn't help me at all. I don't have the option to create a destructable and i can't find the alternative way so i just tried dragging it onto the platform but when i load the game theres nothing there.

  • followed your tutorial and i noticed that when i tried it (and when you did in this video) the chunks of the wall only explode/blast apart the first time you shoot it. afterwards the pieces just stay in place and come off one by one as you shoot them. do you know how to fix this? thanks for the tutorial.

  • @klemen1702 That means you have a newer version of UDK. The newer versions I believe use Apex.

  • I've been introducing myself to the UDK a few hours now with some previous experience from Source SDK. I must say I'm really impressed by the flexibility of this engine. Also thanks for the comprehensive tutorials ^^

  • I figured the best way of not having any problems is downloading the november 2009 version (same as he uses if u go after the video date) to avoid the shit with license trouble and no destruction

  • hi guy can u tell me why my static imported mesh (with UCX collision) dont seem to work properly? i mean when i shot for example an imported wall random chunks are destroyed and not the ones i have shoted to?

  • I have a weird problem. I use the newest SDK as of Feb 12, 2011.

    When I shoot out chunks, they do not interact as a physics object, only as a texture which I can walk over/through. Also, if I shoot down the last piece in a chain of support, it doesn't "explode" like your do. It just falls in one huge chunk, which I can't manipulate afterwards.

    Please help out.

  • for those using newer versions ignore the create physics destructibles step. Just save the wall and drag it into your scene and then click on your 3d view window and along the top of the screen there is an icon with a G on it, click this and it will give you the game view. You will now be able to see your destructable walls.

  • Making destructables.

    1) Make a nice object.

    2) Completely fuck up the vertex placement.

    3) Make different sections into elements

    4) Assign each element the desired effect in your chosen 3D application, making sure to have exported your object to a compatible format.

  • I tried saving instead of create new physx destructable and that seams to work but only onechunk of the wall will break away

  • IMPORTANT: for all the people who cant find the phys x destructible button at 3:04 you have the new UDK instead all you have to do is right click and save place the object down use play from here and it works :D

  • In the September Beta release notes, it said that the PhysX destructible's had been replaced with the Apex destruction system, so some of the menus may have been changed around as well.

  • For the people who have the no "Create a new physics destructible" problem, this is my first time with the UDK, so I might be missing something, but it just works for me without having that option, it's probably no longer a requirement in the new version, it just works...

  • udk june and july are both crashing they are working on a fix but we will have to just wait till they get this sorted out

  • i downloaded the UDK a little bit ago and when i start it up it takes a long time to launch up but when it comes up full screen before anything comes up to do stuff the program quits working but i have all the system requirements do u know what i am doing wrong?

    Physx is much faster as it uses the GPU instead of CPU.

  • infact ignore that last comment, when i shoot the physx destructable. it goes back to the Default mesh... im on Dynamic lighting so why is this doing it ?

  • It`s because you are using a Material, you have to use MaterialInstanceConstant. Or make a New MaterialInstanceConstant and just add Texture2d to your Texture Parameter, but first you have to set your Parent up to get that Option You can use: Material'Engine_MI_Shaders.M_S­hader_Simple'

  • i put a Meterialinstanceconstant on the phyx destructable but it still goes back to being white and blue after i shoot it once

  • If your wall chuncks float, goto the static mesh editor and check the Composite Chuncks Explode box

  • thanks for all these tutorials raven keep up the good work. been learning alot from watching these vids. but i have a problem and it also happened with the other fracture tut i watched. whenever i drag the destructible object on to the scene it doesnt show the wall. only shows that i can move it around and it shows up on the wireframe viewports but not on the textured viewport. it runs fine when i play it but i just wanna see it on my viewport so i can position it better

  • Hey man. First off, thanks for all the tutorial videos. I've been using them all to help me learn. Second, is there any way to make the blue/white checkerboard pattern go away inside of the wall? Can you make it stay the same as the outside material on the wall? Thanks!

  • 1st is it possible to make the wall not just disappear when shot because when i shoot it where i shot just disappears or when i left click at it the pieces of the wall go flying.

    2nd The wall floats when i shoot out a circle the middle floats or if i cut around a corner the corner part floats.

  • Make sure you have the Fracture properties set up right in the "Static Mesh" menu. Basically, you want everything except the bottom chunks to be Breakable and Spawn Physics Chunks, and the bottom needs to be Support Chunks.

    now, say that i shoot out all the bottom support blocks, and then the wall falls over. the fallen over wall/block, cant be destroyed by shooting at it, and it doesnt seem to have any form of collision with the player themselves

  • hey man ive been using the f.e.a.r engine to do this destructible terrain stuff and i ran into a limitation , have you reached the limitation on objects in the ue3 engine? or could you tell me what the limit is? it will determine wether or not i switch from the decrepid old pixel shader 2.0 jupiter ex engine to ue3 udk

  • Well I'm sure you can fiddle around around and do what you're asking. DMM just makes it so you can make thin trees bend, Jello wiggle when you hit it instead of cracking like stone, etc.

  • I really see no idea with using PhysX anymoore for non Nvidea users. I mean the Fracture meshes dosnt benefit from having a PhysX chip does it?

    So the only difference is that in PhysX the gibs stay in the scene and are physicly active. But in normal fracture you cant affect the gibs and for non nvidea users its ALOT less demanding to calculate.
