Just when i thought i'd found a SSAA version, here come these girls doing bass and tenor, but i gotta give it up to them. that was sick! def thumps up.
I think this is definitely one of the best versions of this song I've heard on youtube. I've performed this one in chamber choirs, and I think this is a lovely intepretation.
I remember when I did this song in high school. While I do love how this version turned out, I wish I had seen what we did with the the phrase "wraps me in song". There was a sort of dramatic pause before it was repeated, and it was much quieter, therefore, quite haunting and effective.
i dont like the version of the song...too many cut of breath, no continuity...you over-kill your expression...this should be sang with in a flowing manner..
absolutely beautiful and outstanding! I remember singing this with my high school choir--it was my favorite song. your rendition brought tears of nostalgia. Very well done, ladies :)
U girls rocked it,I loved every minute of it.I sang this song while in high school with mixed voices and It sounded beautiful too,but U girls killed it!
beautiful, absolutely beautiful. also sang this with my highschool choir. was the only song we didn't have our choir director directing, but our principal. still brings a tear to my eye...
we just performed this piece! I love it...though i would have to agree with YOUAREMYXHIGH that you should watch your vowels...and i think you could've had so much more fun with the dyniamics of the piece if you took it a tad slower-the rubato was wonderful!
If you pronounce the r's too much it sounds icky, it's just easier to not pronounce them, you can still understand the word too, my conductor is having us do the same.
Yes, Britney's comment definitely needed a correction - no offense. For those who have been in at least a high school choir, you'll understand that pronouncing those R's too much can make it sound ugly. Judges and conductors don't like to hear it. You would be told to use tall vowels, even for the R's - particularly for those consonants.
I agree, poor pronunciation it the thing that catches most choirs at adjudications. By poor pronunciation, I don't mean improper speaking, I mean context wise. The hard "R" sound can harsh-en even the most lovely sound. If this was a more lively piece, you would hear the "R", but as this as acapella (spelling?), it is highly inappropriate.
Second time I'm Commenting this. I absolutely LOVE this. Kudos to the altos, amazing pitch and tone quality. SOP 1'S !!! WOW. Sops I loved your part, and singing this song with my all county choir , I fell in love. AMAZING JOB AGAIN!!! <3333
amazing job all girls choir!!! I also have started singing this song in my choir, the song is really beautiful and makes me shiver. The only thing that bugs me is that is should be WAY WAY slower, especially for such an emotional song! but great singing, also try to elongate dramatic parts and long parts to give it more feeling ^___^
This is a girls' group. Sing an arrangement for girls' voices. Singing that low is really bad for your voice. -> "In response to aching silence, memory summons half-heard voices" Also, isn't this part supposed to be 4-part?
I am sooo impressed with how well the girls sang the bass line. I tried and it sounded awful. What you lack in timing and phrasing you more than make up for with the blend and intonation. I've never heard this song go so fast, but I'm so impressed with the low altos that I don't care.
I love your blend, and you guys sound fabulous. I think some of your cutoffs are a little bit sharp, though, maybe a little too fast - you don't let those incredible chords ring enough at the end of your phrases! Also, I don't know if I completely agree with your vowel choices, but you were at least extremely understandable. An impressive performance!
To all those watching this thinking of singing it in a choir, there is an ssa version of it that my choir at CSU is singing now, and works much better with women. The bass and tenor part are sang an octave higher by second soprano's and soprano's and it's amazing!
This was one of the best versions of this song I've ever heard. The recent all county choir i was in did this song and it still gives goosebumps. Thank you for posting such an amazing piece, done by an amazing womens' choir.
I sang this song with my high school chamber choir, but we sang it with boys, so i was thinking my gosh, how are they going to pull off the bass part without boys? But you all pulled it off! It didn't sound strained, it was so good. You all just seemed to rush it. Or, maybe our group just went super slow...idk. GREAT dynamics, articulation and nice blend. WOW
there is a ssaa version too, and that's what my choir is singing. this isn't the ssaa version though. it is the same basic principle, just not as low and the in response to aching silence... part is up an octave for s1 and s2 to sing. a lot of it is really similar though.
Hey Girls, nice work on much of this piece. However, due to perhaps your backgrounds or the MD in the group your tempo on this is at least 6-10BPM to fast in places, and don't forget that you can show that you are much more diverse with this song by just taking more time on it and really enjoying those disonances. This song is suppose to bring the audience to tears, and you have the talent to do it... but you need to have the patience to make it happen.
Great job - best Youtube of this piece yet! However... If you're every doing this again, I would have liked to have a little more tenderness on the words requiem and heaven. Especially at the very end... linger on that last Heaaaaaaevnnnnnn. (If you want a stellar recording, check out the Amabily Chamber Choir of London Ontario's recording off their "Whapped in Song" CD. It's phenomenal)
Again, beautiful singing!! You have a wonderful group.
slow down!!! this song is SO beautiful and you do an AMAZING job with it but slow down. i feel like you just rushed thru this song. and its way to beautiful for that
i want to thank you for dedicating this to the victims of the vt massacre. i live in the town right next to blacksburg, and on behalf of the community, i thank you for this
ok one last thing to say excelent phrasing and dynamics i felt kinda bad after waht i just said, but you guys have excelent swells and good since of musical expression
blending is key.. not bad though... i am sure it gets difficult singing this with all female voices....... although remember to blend and not to compete with eachother, its a choir singing not a solo performance.... it wasn't aweful though
Actually, I was rather disappointed by the chord on bring me to god. Mostly because of the lack of basses, though....not really something they can fix.
WOW! I am so proud of you girls for doing this for the victims of VT, for singing this together and blending so well!!! It touched my heart and gave me chills! God Bless! :)
good job considering there are no men but i thought the tempo was a bit fast for this song. i recently sang this song with my highschool. its such a pretty song!
i've done this song numerous times with my choir. i must say, you can't just altar notes or throw extra ones in. it completely changes the mood. and when you cut chords short or decrecendo really quickly, it completely throws the audience off and doesn't allow for us to hang onto a note or chord that may pull us in. personally, i think you ladies and lovely tone and blend and way to go on those low notes! but, please don't rush this piece! it's so wonderful
I sang in the all male choir The Turtle Creek Chorale in Dallas in which the composer of this song was a member and he died from aids and PBS did a documentary of the choir and the work from which this is from and won an Emmey for it
great video but we need some more soprano #2s in there!!!
