Janick is the best songwriter in Maiden. Just listen to Dance of Death, The Talisman, The Legacy, Out of the Silent Planet, Como Estais Amigos, Lord of the Flies for example.
Sure he is clowning around a lot and looks the part..But the actual playing is pretty bad..Sloppy and not nearly clean enough..he just makes some bends and then alternate picks some part that is just a mess. Anybody who can't hear it must be deaf or very very starstruck. Had I come on youtube playing like Gers I'd be slaughtered by the few people unlucky enough to surf over to my side of YT..Fact.

@gitarskicentar It's funny you mention his vibrato, because it's Adrian Smith that has a false vibrato and can't harmonize well with the other two. Listen to the clean and perfectly tuned guitar harmonies on The X Factor, and then listen to post reunion-Maiden... Janick is an excellent guitarplayer, with a distinct solo-style that works quite well, I think. He also has a fantastic tone that doesn't muddy up the mix in the same way Adrian's and Dave's effect-heavy tones do.

I'm sure Janick beat out plenty of other guitarists who wanted to be with the band after Adrian Smith left. Janick is a great guitar player, and he seems like a really great dude, too. Musicianship isn't just about how well you play; it's about the professionalism you carry with yourself both on and off the stage. I think he's a great fit for Iron Maiden, and obviously so do the other members of Iron Maiden. A band this successful doesn't stay that way making poor decisions. Rock on, Janick!
Well, I have never seen a cover of Janick's solo in Hallowed be thy name. And if u ask him to mimic it, even he cant do it exactly. He is a guitarist who believes in spontaneity. He brings that element of on-stage improvisation to Iron Maiden's performances. Adrian and Dave themselves claim that they compose their solos while Janick says that 'he just improvises his solos'.
And with his rough-picking technique that brings a thrash element to the solos.
Janick is a douche. I have seen him live with Maiden no less than 4 times. He is not needed. He is a leftover from when Smith left. Now that Smith is back, Janick should go. He is a hyper child swinging his guitar and jumping around like a monkey. He is annoying to watch and I can't believe Maiden has put up with his stage antics for so long.

janick gers will be always stranger in the band. Most of his solos are terrible. No "feel" and running out from the scale and from the rythm. The solo parts should be just for Dave and Adrian. His movements on the stage so silly and rediculous like an arrogant teenager. Most of Maidens fans don't like him.

Honestly, Janick's my personal favorite of the three. He may've missed Maiden's golden years, but he's become their most energetic live asset (possibly second to Bruce). And dudes the guy wrote Dance of Death...
Janick-haters really piss me off. So his melodies aren't Adrian level, so his speed isn't Dave level, so what? He's Janick-level. He is still an excellent guitarist who is more than capable of writing great songs. He obviously enjoys what he's doing, and has been with Maiden for about 20 years in there 30+ year history. He's like Nicko in his joking, fun-loving ways, and is great for band chemistry. He's contributed a lot to Iron Maiden and metal, and in my mind will always be one of the best.

Got meet and greet passes to Brave New World Tour in KC in 2000 with Queensryche and Halford. Watched a wicked show right in front of Janick. After the show we were so pumped to meet them, but the meet and greet was BEFORE THE SHOW...PWNED BY IRON MAIDEN :)
you hear all these people commenting Iron Maiden doesnt need him because they were fine when he wasnt on the band. just to remind you that not only nowadays is he the one who performs the best guitar solos in the band, but in 1990 Adrian Smith left the band (because he wasnt happy with the band's decision on not using synthesized guitars). Iron Maiden couldnt possible continue with only 1 guitar member, so we all have to be glad they found this guitar maniac, and that he's stayed till today.
@diogotomediogo I don't think he plays the best solo's in the band by a long shot. Smith left because he didn't like the direction of the new material, it had nothing to do with guitar synths. All that being saud, I like Gers in Maiden, he adds a lot to their sound.

I'm sure Janick beat out plenty of other guitarists who wanted to be with the band after Adrian Smith left. Janick is a great guitar player, and he seems like a really great dude, too. Musicianship isn't just about how well you play; it's about the professionalism you carry with yourself both on and off the stage. I think he's a great fit for Iron Maiden, and obviously so do the other members of Iron Maiden. A band this successful doesn't stay that way making poor decisions. Rock on, Janick!

Well, I have never seen a cover of Janick's solo in Hallowed be thy name. And if u ask him to mimic it, even he cant do it exactly. He is a guitarist who believes in spontaneity. He brings that element of on-stage improvisation to Iron Maiden's performances. Adrian and Dave themselves claim that they compose their solos while Janick says that 'he just improvises his solos'.
And with his rough-picking technique that brings a thrash element to the solos.

Janick is a douche. I have seen him live with Maiden no less than 4 times. He is not needed. He is a leftover from when Smith left. Now that Smith is back, Janick should go. He is a hyper child swinging his guitar and jumping around like a monkey. He is annoying to watch and I can't believe Maiden has put up with his stage antics for so long.

Iron Maiden guitar playing are Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. Point.
They are the original and the best!
janick gers will be always stranger in the band. Most of his solos are terrible. No "feel" and running out from the scale and from the rythm. The solo parts should be just for Dave and Adrian. His movements on the stage so silly and rediculous like an arrogant teenager. Most of Maidens fans don't like him.
Iron Maiden should get rid of him in 1999 when the master Adrian Smith cameback.

his solos are very different from theirs, but I think that he fits perfectly into the new maiden..
although NPFTD wasn't that good, FOTD was one of maiden's greatest ! TXF and VXI weren't so successful because of Blaze, and not Janick. When adrian and bruce returned, they gained their popularity and every album since then been a maiden classic!
I can't think of anyone better than janick replacing adrian in 19's

@MrYalicohen I think you're right. I have never heard a professional guitar player doing that kind of solos and it's not a compliment. He should not be allowed to replace Adrian Smith on his solos. In concerts most of the time he's not playing in harmony with the band : false tone, noise, that's all he can do. I think he tottally destroyed Iron Maiden since Fear of The Dark and it's been worse on X Factor and Virtual XI, i think you know why : no more voice singing.

Janick-haters really piss me off. So his melodies aren't Adrian level, so his speed isn't Dave level, so what? He's Janick-level. He is still an excellent guitarist who is more than capable of writing great songs. He obviously enjoys what he's doing, and has been with Maiden for about 20 years in there 30+ year history. He's like Nicko in his joking, fun-loving ways, and is great for band chemistry. He's contributed a lot to Iron Maiden and metal, and in my mind will always be one of the best.

The rest of the band can just sit around for all I care, the one I was watching the whole time I saw 'em live was Janick. He was jumping and running around the stage like a fucking maniac. Pure raw energy is what he gives. Though.. He belongs in the Di'anno-era Maiden for sure; energy and punk vibes galour in that era, he'd fit perfect. Current Iron Maiden is just too.. Janick is a good(not great) guitarist and a fine showman but out of the 3 in the band he is the one that would be missed least musically IMHO but i for one am glad he stayed when Adrian returned he has also contributed some great songs over the years.I first saw him in Whitespirit and he was and still is a massive Ritchie Blackmore clone with his stage manner and poses only he doesnt have the talent to compare with Blackers

Got meet and greet passes to Brave New World Tour in KC in 2000 with Queensryche and Halford. Watched a wicked show right in front of Janick. After the show we were so pumped to meet them, but the meet and greet was BEFORE THE SHOW...PWNED BY IRON MAIDEN :)

you hear all these people commenting Iron Maiden doesnt need him because they were fine when he wasnt on the band. just to remind you that not only nowadays is he the one who performs the best guitar solos in the band, but in 1990 Adrian Smith left the band (because he wasnt happy with the band's decision on not using synthesized guitars). Iron Maiden couldnt possible continue with only 1 guitar member, so we all have to be glad they found this guitar maniac, and that he's stayed till today.
